Update: There will be another single from Kelly’s current album, “All I Ever Wanted”. She tweeted, answering a fan’s question, “I think we’re leaning towards a song that starts with an I and ends with a U”. The bright, 60′s pop-inflected, “I Want You” fits that clue… (Fans are reminding me that “If I Can’t Have You” does too)

Kelly Clarkson hasn’t been on twitter long, but she’s learned how to use it.  Why, just today, she revealed an awesome bit of news to a fan.

“Aiming for September”,  tweeted Kelly when asked if she’d be releasing a single soon.

Also, she confirmed that we can expect an album out at the end of 2010, “Working on it now ….literally about to go to studio and demo out a few songs for record.”

Hooray!

Kelly recently told Billboard magazine, (Video after the jump, Kelly’s segment starts about 1 minute in) that  “We have several songs already pinned for the next album.  Expect an eclectic collection of songs, “the sound is going to be all over the place,” Kelly promises.

Kelly reveals  to the UK’s Daily Star that she’s writing and recording new songs, “a ton with a bunch of songwriters I haven’t written with before.”

“It’s turning out differently, like nothing I’ve released before, ” she says, ” Some of it is very 80s influenced and some of it is singer/songwriter.”

Kelly’s not looking to hook up with a big name producer,  “I don’t like working with people who have worked with everyone.”

But she admits, “Sometimes I get blackmailed into doing so by my label, but I prefer collaborating with people who aren’t on the grid. I don’t want to sound exactly like other people’s records.” (Sorta like that Ryan Tedder kerfuffle?)

Kelly is such a rebel, and I love her for it! Totally looking forward to some new Kelly Clarkson…how about you?

Kelly begins a world-wide tour in Dublin Ireland, February 5.

i love kelly, but i dont want her to clash with her label again :(

She has a gorgeous voice, but she sounds like a really unpleasant person. Why is she rushing to make another album so soon? She just made one? It seems like over saturation. And the way she dissed Ryan Tedder when Already Gone went to #1. There’s fierce, and there’s nasty.

Kudos to her however for “defending” her fatness. She looks natural at her current weight. That’s being a rebel, honestly.

Kelly commented on Ryan Tedder and the similarities between Halo and A.G. months before Kelly’s song was even on the charts. She probably thought it would chart high but artistically she didn’t want it to look like she stole a sound from Beyonce. I see where she was coming from with her comments, maybe she gave up fighting with the label about putting it on the album, it was already done/processed and couldn’t do anything about it. But the label went AGAINST her wishes and put it out as the 3rd single…. I think she promoted the hell out of it even tho she did change it up live.

She does her job even tho it seems the label is against her at every turn (My December anyone?). I’m guessing the new album is the label’s choice as they aren’t forking over money to promote a 4th single from All I Ever Wanted. And hey, it’s one more album down until she’s out of her contract with Clive…

Her description of the next album sounds very familiar.

I was thinking the same thing… she better run and consult with Randy… fast!

    ..see Randy

As much as she has complained about Halo/Already Gone, it sure has turned out to be a nice hit for her. I liked the stripped down version she did at the AMAs.

Beats, singer/songwritter, country and pop stuff? Don’t see anybody who has done that.
Frankly it sounds like a mess right now which is understandable in the early stages.

AIEW came out in March 2009. It will keep selling, but it’s already down to 179 on the BB200, so it will probably drift out in not too many weeks; that’s usually the point at which labels stop investing and move on. It had 3 singles, which is about average. A late 2010 release (October/November) would be 19-20 months between releases, also average, if on the lower side.

I also agree that she is trying to finish out her RCA contract and go do whatever she feels like doing. If this next one is reasonably successful, then she puts out one more, and I believe that ends her contract with RCA.

I also agree that it sounds a bit unfocused, but she has several months to firm up the songs and themes.

I respect her for getting right to work on the next album. It seems like the album every two years is a modern trend and that artists used to shoot for an album every year or 18 months.

I think Kelly Clarkson has simply perfected the art of endless whining. Album to album, never stops, and it’s always someone else’s fault, even when the songs become hits. It isn’t really about her being a rebel – if she is really a rebel, she wouldn’t have done the things she is complaining about being forced to do. Let her do her last album with RCA to get this over and done with as soon as possible, so we can see later what she is really like as an artist. OK? No more whining then?

I think the album sounds totally Kelly….a bit of a scatter brain …I say that “with love” as Michael Jackson would say.

And the continuous publication of her challenges with labels while making an album is annoying but everyone else probably has the same issues unless they are total suck ups. The difference is others don’t have it publicized like Kelly seems too.

I will always be a fan of kelly clarkson…

I really hope she’s releasing ‘If I Can’t Have You’. That’s one of the best songs on the album. I always skip over ‘I Want You’, I always thought of it as a filler track.

I hope the single actually is “If I Can’t Have You.” It’s better than “I Want You” and it’s different than anything Kelly has ever done before. Plus, it could make for a really interesting video.
