Kelly Clarkson is NOT a lesbian.

Now that that’s out of the way, let’s get to the really interesting really interesting relevations in this awesome Pop Eater interview with Kelly (she also touches on her relationships, how American Idol has changed, and meeting Clay Aiken’s little spawn):

About writing her hit, “My Life Would Suck Without You”:

Honestly, [songwriting duo] Max [Martin] and Luke [Lukasz "Dr. Luke" Gottwald], who wrote [my song] à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Since U Been Goneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ … it kind of came about the same way. They sent me the song, but it was kind of a different take on the message. I said, “I love the beat, I love the song, but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d rather it be something I would really say, and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll sell it better if it is something I would relate to.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ They kind of rewrote the message around this tough take on a sweet relationship. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s saying, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re horrible for each other, but at the same time I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want anyone else.”

Hm. Now I want to hear the original song. She describes her new album, All I Ever Wanted:

It’s kind of like a roller coaster, because 1) Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a woman, but 2) I love that ride through an album because it tells a story. But there’s some really fun stuff on here that Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve never done before — like this one song I did with Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic called à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹If I Canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Have You.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s very like Eurythmics meets the Killers — very different for me. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a lot sexier. People think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s so funny because they know Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not that girl. Then thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s other stuff like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Cry,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ which is the most personal song on the album and is about betrayal. Anyway, [the album] is very personal and all over the place. All my albums always have been. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know about you, but I get really pissed off when I buy an album and every songà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the same. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m like, “Man, you just wasted my money. I couldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve just got one song.” Some artists complain about leaking a bit of the album with each song. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m like, “Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just forcing you to come out with better music.”

And on her likeness to new pop princess, Katy Perry:

Um, no. I mean, whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s funny à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ I like Katy Perry. Katy and [new 'American Idol' judge] Kara DioGuardi wrote a song, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹I Do Not Hook Up,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ which is probably going to be my second single. But we’re very different. I honestly don’t think we’re very comparable. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a huge Katy Perry fan, but no, I think people are saying that because I worked with Max and Luke. But I mean, I worked with Max and Luke before [her].

Not to mention Kelly can sing her face off.   Katy Perry?   Not so much.

WOW! I have NEVER even had a thought of Kelly being gay, ever. My oh my, where does it end? I guess if you’re a celebrity, you must be gay because that seems to be the “in” thing these days. LOL!

  • SashaB

Um, gotta say that I’ve never wondered about her sexual orientation. Hm, is that what Idols do now? Proclaim yay or nay given Clay’s outing? Okay, thanks I guess, Kelly. Heh.

I would say that Kelly could flat out sing Katy Perry without missing a beat. Hands down.

I learned at a very young age from my father: à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Honey, youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re never gonna be able to control what people think about you or say about you; you might as well just stop worrying about it.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ I learned on à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ not to read any of it — never. Youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re either going to become one these people that you know have just totally lost perspective because everybodyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s tooted their horn so much, or youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re gonna crawl in some hole and want to kill yourself because people are just so mean. I enjoy our conversation right now, but I wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t read what we do.

Wise words from Kelly. I hope this year’s contestants get that same advice because, yes, people are so mean and it’s not worth knowing what they have to say about you.

  • IdolFanatic

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m very much a Barack fan.

Most celebrities are. It would be uncool not to be. Thank God I’m not a celebrity.

I think it’s safe to say that you can’t clump most celebrities into Barack’s corner. There are too many of them to make that generalization. Nore is it uncool to have an opinion and decide you’re not a fan. That being said, I’m very glad Kelly’s a fan.

I have NEVER even had a thought of Kelly being gay, ever. My oh my, where does it end?

I’d been hearing that rumor floating around for a while now. People’s endless fascination with the personal lives of celebrities never ceases to amaze me.

Well PerezHilton is ALWAYS insinuating that Kelly is gay. Because apparently she has a HUGE lesbian fanbase that likes to call themselves Kezbos.

  • SpenserJ

Well PerezHilton is ALWAYS insinuating that Kelly is gay.

But, Perez is an idiot who thinks Heidi & Spencer from the Hills are just fascinating. People don’t actually believe his brand of bull do they?

  • sabby_rina

“Kelly Clarkson is NOT a lesbian”

:bigsurprise_ee: HUH!? where did that even come from? Haha

  • NYCSlain

Awesome interview! I love when she gets a little snippy about Perez – “Honestly, I don’t know what the hell I did to Perez.” LOL, that made me laugh.

I think the lesbian thing basically comes from the fact that, unlike most celebs, Kelly actually manages to keep her love life private, and you never see her out with anyone, at least in the tabs.

I love Kelly Clarkson. She’s nice. If some ass had asked me if I was a lesbian, I would probably have insulted him or his mama. Glad I am not a celebrity. I love how she answered the question without insulting anyone. Someone else could have taken lessons from her.

She has been tagged with the lesbian monniker not because she hasn’t been seen with guys, she has, but because she is not a serial dater, who publically dates one guy after the other. She has also admitted that she’s never been in love, therefore she must be a lesbian, right? Idiots all. *Sigh*

Anyway, Kelly is probably my favorite idol. She’s just a kickass kinda woman, and I really like that she seems to be so unaffected by her celebrity. She’s comfortable with it, and she’s earned it.

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d love to do musical theater one day or theater in general. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d never want to do movies or TV because Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not about having to do the same thing 50 times.

Love you Kelly, but as Clay would tell you, if you pursue musical theater, you’ll be doing the same thing a heck of a lot more than 50 times. It’s not a one time only performance. In contrast, a TV series (remember your appearance on Reba?) is only about 22 or fewer episodes a season and most full-time movie actors only do 1 or 2 films a year.

(Not that Kelly will ever be reading any of the above, of course.)

And let the fan wars begin. She didn’t even take a shot at Katy Perry but I can see some people taking the comment and run. She wasn’t lying when she said that people just look for something controversial in her when there just isn’t. Can’t wait for the album! It seems like it is going to be a fun, eclectic album.

  • abbysee

you make it sound like ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s an insult or somthingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Nope, but to ask someone about their sexuality is insulting. Would you ask someone did they screw their husband the night before? Unless you are pesonally invested it’s none of your business.

They very thought of asking someone who they are sleeping with is insulting, and intrusive.

    Kelly…Please Shut UP!

That it is. And it doesn’t matter if the person being asked is actually gay; it’s still their private life…and sharing that is up to them, when they so choose, if ever. I would imagine I would get a bit overtaxed and less wordy if my response of “it’s my private life and business” was effectively ignored in favor of hounding unmercifully for years on end…so yeah, completely inappropriate question for anyone. It’s always amazing the overstepping that happens when someone happens to be “famous”. Weird…and jacked, if ya ask me.;-)

Kelly, by the way, does write some of her songs, portions of others, and none of still more. But she sings the hella out of pretty much all of them…and that’s a good thing for me.;-)
