Kellie Pickler dropped by CNN Headline’s Showbiz Tonight to talk about her hunger initiative with ConAgra, but she also weighed in on the Luke Bryan National Anthem (non)controversy and with her thoughts on who should be an American Idol judge.

She was sitting up in the stands (she was set to sing at the 7th inning stretch later) while Luke sang the anthem before the All Star game on Tuesday and did not notice the country singer looking at his hand. Regardless, Kellie felt his performance was beautiful, and if he needed a little cheat sheet to get through the song, “So what!” she said. “He sang his butt off!”

Kellie was surprised to hear that Idol producers were looking for new judges. But when the host namechecked Adam Lambert (who is rumored to be in the running) Kellie chirped, “I like him!” When the host wondered if Kellie would like the job, she said, “NO, I would not want to be an Idol judge!” She added, “All I’ve ever wanted to do, was live on a tour bus, and be a country singer.”

When asked to comment on a clip of Slash dissing Idol, she said that she loves Slash, but she can’t complain about Idol. “I can’t bite the hand that feeds me.”

Later in the broadcast, she came back with comedian, Chuck Nice, to comment on the Top 5 Buzz, that included 5. Susan Boyle driving her neighbors crazy singing the same songs over and over again! (“Move!” says Kellie), 4. Cookie Monster’s Carly Rae Jepsen parody (Kellie had never heard “Call Me Maybe!” She’s a Tammy Wynette kind of a gal),  3. Official Olympic photos 2. Daniel Tosh of Tosh. 0 making rape jokes (Chuck defended him) 5. R&B artist, Frank Ocean coming out gay  (Kellie says, “I have so many friends and so many people who are close to me who are family–who are gay”)

I think Kellie could have made for a hilarious judge. She also seems very supportive of fellow country singers, I remember when she stood up for Lauren Alaina when people were picking on her for messing up also.

Kellie’s a sweetheart but she really can’t handle talking about sensitive issues eloquently.

Love me some Kellie! I know she said she only wants to be on her tour bus and sing her songs but that would make the basis of a hit sitcom. I need more Pickler on my teevee.

    Awww, what a sweetie.

I guess Slash forgot how he mentored on Idol during Season 8 at about the same time he also released an album. :-) My, how memories do fade. Lol. But, I still love him. Ha!

The reason Slash mentored the Idol hopefuls was because he was encouraged by his entourage. I read somewhere that he intentionally only wanted to sit in the audience because he was so interested in one of the Idol hopefuls (you know, the one who is performing now 3 gigs with Queen in London)…

ETA : link to Slash’s radio interview in which Slash talked how he reluctantly became a mentor in American Idol ( lots of Adam Lambert praise) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rH4UI8oYhvY

Slash also recorded with Daughtry.  He’s had ALOT of involvement for someone so against Idol.

I wonder if she actually knows anything about ConAgra.

Kellie, I know you just want to be a country singer, but you’ve got so much talent being an entertainer, girl. Get you own View show geared to country music life. CMT would gobble that up!

    Kellie is such a joy.

Yeah, Slash, keep your street cred while using Idol just like everyone else.

Kellie has always been a fav of mine since AI5.  She should do a sitcom she is so naturally funny and sweet.

I so agree why be mean when you can be nice?  Glad she likes Adam!

What the heck Slash?  Have you forgotten playing on Daughtry’s cd?  Have you forgotten thinking Adam was phenominal?

It is comments like Slash’s that so hurt AI contestants and create the negative stigma.  Luckily Slash made it before a platform like Idol was needed to break into the music biz.  Before radio stations were so controled and almost impossible to get new artists and new songs heard.  As fantastic as Guns & Roses are, (one of my fav bands of all time) does he actually think radio would embrace G&R now if they were a new band?  I think not and that is the problem and that is the shame.  Same artists same songs played on every station over and over at nausium.

Ticks me off truly it does.

Good to hear… I guess he is maybe against the idea of a reality show, but he could not resist to help young artists who he perceives as talented.
