Wow, that was real nice. Listen to this because I’ve always loved this song. Never been a big Kellie fan however this took me by surprise, she nailed it! Her voice in this number is a little to high for my taste but I love how she has grown and matured into a TRUE singer/ performer.

Way to go Kellie!!

wow, she actually does sound really good in this. i’m a big fan of kellie as a person, but she rarely sounds great live.

You’ve got it backwards. She’s one of the best live singers and rarely doesn’t sound great live. She’s performed hundreds of concerts, always sounds great and gets great vocal reviews from the critics. Can’t say the same about everyone she tours with.

Those saying she’s had vocal training, of course she has and all the Idols have. The difference is that those who were older and more experienced like Kat got it before and during Idol and Kellie got hers during and after Idol. Where have you been because she’s been singing great like this for a few years now. She recorded Santa Baby in 2007 and sang it perfectly then. Download it from itunes and listen. Best vocal of the song ever live and recorded. I guess that’s why Sony asked her to record it, put it on 3 Christmas albums, it’s the most popular on radio and a top 3 seller on itunes for 2 years now.

I came to enjoy Kellie once she was off idol. She is fun and has an adorable personality. She was wonderful on Extreme Makeover. She came off very real – a sweet, down-home country girl.
I always thought though that it was too bad that she was not a good singer.
But if she continues singing like this, she will have all the assets to make it much much further.

Thanks, MJ for posting this. I’ve grown to love Kellie because she seems such a genuine singer/personality, and this video in particular was like a shaft of sunlight.

She is just too cute. I’ve always liked her a lot. Not the best singer, but she has charm and sweetness galore, plus a nice voice. And she is adorable.

I like Kellie but I find her voice nasally and annoying. She does have a few songs I like though.

Her hair looks cute. It must have been taped a couple weeks ago cause she had said she is already back to blonde.

I do love her personality though!

Oh my, she’s adorable, isn’t she. She did great, as much as I like her, she doesn’t always pull it off live, but this was terrific. Spot on vocals, and she changed it up enough that she made it her own. Go Kellie!

i always liked her voice – very recognizable, very country, very sweet, and frankly, very commercial, and nasal is part of what makes that all work. the vocal coaching only makes her reach her potential w/o changing anything. and she’s always seemed very unselfconscious onstage. my guess is that the red hair is to set her apart from all the current country blondes – carrie, taylor, miranda, julianna, jennifer, etc.

Yeah. To me, this is something that Kellie’s always had going for her. She’s able to present herself in a very charming, non-affected way when she sings. I think that’s one of the reasons her performing grabs people.

And now she’s definitely made some good use of voice coaches.

Nice to watch these kids learn and grow.

Anyway, i was impressed that her power notes are at the top and I really could not hear the difference between the voices. She must sing quite gently in her chest voice.

That’s part of what they teach you to do, unless you’re trying to be a belter! When you’re not belting the chest voice, then it blends better with the upper part of your register.

Just keep practicing on the mixing. You’ll get it. …

One of the most helpful things that I learned was the extreme importance of *relaxing* your whole head, jaw, mouth, tongue, *everything* in that area while you sing. (try rolling Rs with your tongue before you sing, and letting your face relax enough for your lips to flap in the breeze if you touch your cheeks lightly and blow out)

Because otherwise the higher notes kind of struggle to get out and since they sound weaker, you’re tempted to drag up the chest resonance to strengthen them — and that defeats the whole purpose!

Kellie is definitely getting some good training and practicing it, I think. I’m impressed by this performance, too.

And you can get higher than that A, too! I promise. I’m an alto and can get to the second B above middle C in my main voice when I’m really in form. … It’s all about relaxing the voice and just letting it come out!
