Keith Urban Says He Would Love to Be an American Idol Judge

Keith Urban, who is rumored to be signing on as an American Idol judge any day now, faced questions about the possibility of joining the panel from a group of high schoolers!  The country star says he’d love to be a judge:

The country singer joked with a student, calling her “Barbara Walters,” when the local high-schooler took advantage of a question-and-answer session at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum on Thursday to ask him about swirling rumors that he would join the Fox reality singing competition.

“I would love to do it and hopefully that happens,” Urban said after the audience full of teenagers stopped laughing. The students were on hand for an exclusive educational program for Metro Nashville public schools.

“I did get to do a similar role in Australia for ‘The Voice,’ and I really enjoyed it. The thing about those shows is that mentoring aspect; it’s all about passing it on.”

Leave it to the kids! Hopefully, Keith is signing on that dotted line as we speak. I can’t wait to see Nicole Kidman sitting out in the audience watching her guy judge. Ha.

    Keith played that very well.  He didn’t even reveal whether or not he’s been in talks with AI.  He must be a good poker player.

    Not really a fan of Keith Urban and Kris Allen but I loved it when they were singing together on the Season 8 finale !! So really looking forward to having Keith Urban on the judge’s panel…

    The thing about those shows is that mentoring aspect; it’s all about passing it on.

    This is why I really, really want Keith to judge. Beyond the fact that it’s high time AI have a country music star as a judge, he’d be willing to give solid advice. 

    Wow. A judge that says more than “wonderful” or “goosies” or “you could sing the phone book.” What a concept.

    I think if Keith is on AI he is going to be a bit disappointed about the mentoring part. That’s what he did so well on The Voice here in Australia -which had ample opportunity for him to impart his musical knowledge.AI is a very different proposition & from past seasons the judges have mostly had a hands off approach. Maybe he can change the culture?
