Katharine McPhee’s Walmart Soundcheck is now up!

  • Listen to Katharine McPhee’s soundcheck right HERE.

The setlist includes: “It’s Not Right”, “Had It All”, “Over It”, “Lifetime”,   “Brand New Key”, “Say Goodbye” and an inteview.

OMG. Katharine forgot her pants!

There’s a nice re-working of the single “Over It” from her first album, giving it an adult contemporary feel.   But, the mash-up of Melanie’s “Brand New Key” with George Micheal’s “Faith”–complete with a pair of pink roller skates as prop–was a little odd, to say the least.

Highlight on the set list is the lush “Say Goodbye.”   The song fits right in her vocal sweet-spot.

Really this is the direction she should have headed in on her first album. The rhythm pop lite she attempted on her debut didn’t win her new fans and alienated her Idol base.

Katharine’s new album, Unbroken, will be available everywhere on Tuesday, January 5.

A shirt and no pants/shorts/skirt isn’t pretty. Can’t get past the crotch shots to even listen to any possible music that may or may not be presented.

    Say Goodbye is amazing.

    Say Goodbye is amazing.

Yeah, it’s the best of all the cuts, I think.

The performance is just breathtaking, I personally prefer her burnette hair, but here, I love her hair for some reason.

I’ll have to listen to the songs, but that hair is giving me a Florence Henderson vibe circa the Brady Bunch years.

I really liked Over it. Couldn’t get through Brand New Key. Yeah, the skates are weird.

Her new stuff isn’t bad. Say Goodbye is quite haunting. I hope she does well with this.

    OMG, those pants! hee

I think 19 gets it wrong with artist direction more than they get it right. Thankfully they stuck with her and made the correction.

Awesome performance! Kat performance of ‘Say Goodbye’ is a gem! “Keep on Driving” in the Access Pass section is also one my favorites. Kat has truly grown in maturity with her new music. After listening to her entire CD, I find it to be outstanding…many favorites.

BTW chessguy, Kat is no longer with 19 but with Verve Records/Universal. Kat finally was allowed to record a CD that was more her style. Also had a hand in writing some of the songs.

Oh, Verve is a good fit for her. They’ll probably stick with her too. Help her develop. I’m glad she landed in a good spot.

This is definitely the best direction for Katharine. She sounds really great and “Say Goodbye” is just totally perfect for her in every way. I wish her luck!

I’m actually going to buy this album. She looks and sounds great. “Brand New Key” is a throw-back to the ’70s. Loved that song when I was a girl. We called it the “Rollerskate” song, though. I think my favorite track is “Had It All” but I really like the others too.

How she stays in that position while she’s singing “Say Goodbye” is beyond me. Wow! Not digging the leggings/pants, even though she looks amazing in them.

THis is much better than her first album. I really like ‘Say Goodbye’

‘Brand New Key’ shouldn’t be sung by anyone other than Melanie. Well, unless you’re singing along WITH Melanie. That was just awkward to me.

I hope she does well with this.

I think this is amazing, she looks amazing, and sounds amazing. Brand New Key/ Faith mash-up is one of my favorites in this bunch, not sure I get the dislike of it at all, but to each their own. She is an outstanding singer, always has been. Beautiful!!!! Bravo McPhee!!! <3

I think I will be purchasing this album, and from what I heard so far, this is a much better album for Kat than her previous one.

THIS is more in line of what I was sort of hoping from her from the beginning, but I still see Kat as a modern day Rosemary Clooney/Judy Garland/Peggy Lee-type singer…

Look at all the success that Michael Buble, Harry Connick Jr. and Rod Stewart have had singing the standards…

Are there any current female singers doing similar songs?

Kat’s voice is just getting better and better. I’m looking forward to this album quite a bit.
