California girl, Katharine McPhee chats with Kelly Ripa and her old pal, guest co-host, Randy Jackson about her adventures adjusting to life in New York City on this morning’s Live! With Kelly.

A California girl, Katharine had to temper her tendency for chipper banter around some of the city’s grumpier denizens.

When the subject got around to the sad passing of Whitney Houston, and the huge influence she had on the Smash star’s life, Katharine shot Randy a look and said, “You always told us never to sing her songs!”

    Good interview. I can’t wait to watch tonight. I love that in addition to broadway tunes, they’ll be performing regular songs like glee does. Ryan posted on twitter a video of Kat covering Adele and I thought it was awesome.

    It is a total culture shock from the West coast to the East Coast and I’m sure visa versa.  I’m a west coaster who has been in the tri state area for 11 years and yeah, I totally get what Kat is talking about.
