The first half-hour of tonight’s (Dec 23) Larry King Live Christmas special featured an Idol runner-up, David Archuleta.   But that wasn’t it for the Idols.

In the second half, another runner-up, Katharine McPhee, still sporting that blond hair, performed “I’ll Be Home For Christmas”.

    She is amazing. Flawless…

    Katharine McPhee makes my Christmas!

Fun Fact: She is winkin’ to the hatazzzzz

  • hazuki

    I freaking love it.

  • Suzanne

the video isn’t running. there’s a problem with it.

I saw the performance on the show. I did not really like it. She’s super beautiful and has a lovely voice but she has this way of breaking into these melismatic runs that I find distracting. Sometimes it seems like a cop out–like she’s just about to hit a big note that should be held for, say, a measure, but instead, she holds it for half the measure and runs down to a more comfortable note under the guise of a flourish. She’s too good a singer to really be doing that, so I think it’s just a technique of hers that I don’t like.

Still find the hair to be completely unnatural looking.

  • Chai

I usually like Katherine McPhee but not this time. This just didn’t sound good. It didn’t sound like it was in her key? It sounded unnatural. I liked her hair, tho. LOL I would’ve preferred hearing Melinda Doolittle.

  • SBC

    Love it!

  • Suzanne

It didn’t sound like it was in her key?

    Too low?

I would’ve preferred hearing Melinda Doolittle.

Who wouldn’t! Or another song by David.

  • iluvai

I love her. She is my favorite from her season. Beautiful, talented and sweet.

  • houstonrufus23

I like Kat. Not really crazy about this particular arrangement. She is such a beautiful brunette. Gorgeous really. I can’t get used to the blonde.

  • Suzanne

    She is incredibly beautiful.

  • skat-girl@allycatlover

damn u kat Ive been trying to resist you but after this I have to buy your next album,

  • temkanoe

i found the backtrack really annoying. it sounded static-y to me. Other than that::: Kat! You don’t have to sing with ruuuuuuns all the time!

She has a lovely voice though…

    YEP

  • sue

Kat is so dang beautiful. I still prefer her natural brown hair but it’s all good, people like to change to keep things fresh. Her voice is incredible but the backtrack was really annoying. Good job anyways….

  • david90531

Look and sound gorgeous! Just watched the David Foster and Friends DVD today, she was absolutely STUNNING in there. So excited for her sophomore work :D

  • googletot

Bring back the brunette – this blond hair doesn’t look good on her. Also, I thought the song was boring with no substance. Kat has a beautiful voice, but I don’t think she knows how to use it.

  • hollygo9

Her hair is so awful. The brunette suited her better.

  • IdolThoughts

Yuck. More than I dislike the Star Spangled Banner messed with…I dislike Christmas standards distastefully embellished. Just YUCK to the back track and the ridiculous runs. If she had sung it straight and engaged the camera lens a little more it would have been so much better.

If Chris Daughtry wasn ´t there, she would had been my favorite to Season 6. Her ‘Somewhere Over the Rainbow’ was so beautiful (although more recently Leona did better on XFactor)!

But for now she was a little disappointment to me’ ¦ this arrangement, the annoying backtrack, a certain lack of soul (maybe she should be a little less mechanical’ ¦ you know, some people critic little Archie for that, but I think it ´s a great quality: closing eyes, getting lost in the song, connecting with the emotions and showing the audience that you really ‘feel’ the song’ ¦ Even the à ¼ber flamboyant Adam Lambert can do that, forgetting about ‘performance’ and just connecting with the audience, as he does in ‘The Tracks of my Tears’ by Smokey Robinson in a sensitive, vulnerable and unforgettable rendition).

I totally agree with googletot : ‘I thought the song was boring with no substance. Kat has a beautiful voice, but I don’t think she knows how to use it’ .

The voice is beautiful, she has impeccable technique, she has the ability to stay on pitch, no auto-tune required, but there is no soul’ ¦

About the blonde hair’ ¦ it really doesn ´t work for her. She is a gourgeous brunette, blonde is a totally unnatural looking for her.

  • KathyH

Blonde or brunette, she is beautiful, and I liked her on Idol but this was a miss for me. I “hear” the song as more melanchony — not sure I get that from this performance.

  • gigi.br

    Ooops, Season 5!

  • babybelle32

Fun Fact: She is winkin’ to the hatazzzzz

Her label is having her release an album at the worse time of the year. I don’t think it’s the “hatazzzz” in the tv audience that she needs to be worried about.

  • Lu

    what is hatazzzz?

  • jpfan

I still think her natural home will be Broadway but I wish her well.

  • jinxx315

The hair is ridiculous. Not to hate on her, but she just seems so…fake. Her voice was better when she was on Idol. Now she is trying too hard and she doesn’t sound right with all the coooing and ooooing. I agree that the backing track sounds horrible, too. Where is the beautiful raven haired singer that wow’d people with her rendition of Over the Rainbow?

  • Reflections On Life

she’s always come across as more in love with singing than with song, if that makes any sense. that’s why she gives any song her same predictable treatment, regardless of lyric or tone. as paula told her during idol, “we love your intimate voice”, but she didn’t really get the memo. verve did – that label is full of intimate-voiced singers – they just need to steer her in the right direction, because there are few off idol as good as she is or could be.

lol @ hair color fan wars. she has unmistakable bone structure and beauty – with her hair pulled back like that, she could have dyed it green with purple stripes for all i care.

  • bmms

OMG! Her hair is awful. Katherine has a beautiful face and her long brunette locks were wonderful. This hairstyle and the terrible color does not do her justice.

This performance was meh. I miss that ‘shining star’ I first saw on Idol.

  • sass

Love Katharine Mcphee..I focus of her songs and performances first before judging her on her appearances. Blond or brunette she still has a beautiful voice.

Katharine’s new CD, UNBROKEN, will be release on Jan 5, 2010.
You won’t be disappointed to hear new songs. :)

    Have a Happy Holiday everyone!

I wish she had done another song though.
