You are correct that H’wood usually does not give leading roles on their first try, but I can think of two movies where the leading roles were “Unknowns”:

1) Peter O’Toole :wub_tb: for “Lawrence of Arabia” as Lawrence; and
2) Nikki Blonsky for “Hairspray” as Tracy Turnblad… :happy_tb:

Lot’s of Hollywood celebs way more famous than Kat do commercials overseas, particularly in Japan. The names of these A list celebs might surprise you, as they don’t do commercials stateside in order not to seem cheesy or overexposed.

It was too boring to listen to the whole thing. As a person who loves and appreciates clever and well done commercials, I have to say, her sloppy annunciation was driving me nuts. You can do that in pop music, but you’re not supposed to do it on commercials. I would think David Foster would have coached her better than that. Apparently, he’s not very good at producing commercials. I don’t really get what’s so great about him. I think he has poor judgment.

Kat has a pretty voice. I don’t know about distinctive though. But I don’t know if that matters to a degree … if she had a musical identity that clicked, combined with some good songs, she’d sell IMO. Her voice just needs to be distinctive in whatever genre she’s trying to compete. But I wouldn’t call her career over just yet. She does have a movie coming out. For all we know she can act. Not many people would have predicted JHud’s success before Dreamgirls. I’m not really a fan of hers, but she just may end up doing well.

Actually I thought that was how you build a lasting career? She didn’t have a successful album but has been able to keep herself out there a lot longer then Taylor Hicks has been able to do with the general public. Also Hollywood usually doesn’t give a leading role to someone on their first try, they let them prove themselves in smaller diverse type of roles until they can build a name with the public. I remember Sarah Michelle Geller saying that she was doing mostly Horror films (during the Scream 2, I Know What You Did…) because at that time those were the most interesting roles that an actress could get at that time. As long as Kat doesn’t handle herself unprofessionally on a set and if she’s a decent actress she’ll keep getting work in film.

As for her voice after hearing the song I thought that it sounded like a typical Idol final song but I also thought her voice sounded distinctive enough to know who it was right away and I do love that tone she has.

A little off topic but I always thought Kat’s biggest problems was her lack of musical identity. The ones that send out one message like Pickler in country just seem to have much better careers.

It’s nice to see Foster has stayed a mentor for Kat. I agree that she lacks the uniqueness of a true recording artist but this is def a nice gig. However, if there’s one Idol I can see on Broadway, it would be her.

It seems that Foster is also “adopting” Micheal Johns and getting him gigs. Does Foster has a record label? If he produced an album for Kat or Johns who would release it?
