Kara DioGuardi to Make Broadway Debut in ‘Chicago’

According to reports, Kara DioGuardi announced on Live With Regis and Kelly this morning that she will be making her Broadway debut as ‘Roxie Hart’ in Chicago in September.

Kara co-hosted Live with Regis for the morning broadcast, filling in for and Kelly Ripa.

Christie Brinkley is currently in the role and will give her last performance on June 19, 2011. Charlotte d’Amboise will take over, presumably until Kara begins her run.

She’s no longer on American Idol, but two years as a judge on America’s most popular TV show is still paying off.

Isn’t there some dancing involved in this gig? This could get interesting!

    Chicago does nothing but stuntcast the Roxie role, so this isn’t as odd as it might seem. At least Kara can sing the part; Christie Brinkley has been a singing/dancing/acting nightmare. Worst Roxie stuntcast ever. Kara can only be an improvement.

    As long as she can act, a little, I think Kara will be great in this role. Christie Brinkley? Really? That just seens wrong!

    I hope Kara kills it in this role. The acting part where she has to lose herself in the role and not overdo it is going to be the tough part. I do agree that at least she can sing.

    Kara expressed some trepidation about the dancing in the role on R&K this morning. At least she can sing, and perhaps they can simplify the dancing (depending on how well she does). I’m surprised that Christie Brinkley would be considered for this role. She has little/no experience in singing/dancing/acting and I didn’t think that she would be a sufficient draw to warrant the stunt cast.

    I thought that the worst stunt-casting for Roxie Hart ever was when Melanie Griffith portrayed her in 2003…

    I think Velma Kelly is a much more dance-oriented role between Roxie and Velma…

    Well, Kara can sing and possible act. Maybe she’s taken dancing lessons? I was hoping she would get her American Dream… a baby. I hope she does well.
