UPDATE: After the JUMP, a preview of Adam Lambert on Best Week Ever, where he has agreed to answer the question that’s on everybody’s mind…

Here’s Kara DioGuardi telling the gals on The View, which aired today, that she never thought Adam Lambert was in the closet.

It’s a matter of fact statement, not really meant to be a big deal.   But it turned into one after ABC News decided to make hay out of an off-the-cuff remark, knowing the online press, would scoop it up immediately.

And now some of the gays are pissed that Adam’s been coy with the press. Personally, I find his toying with the journos, who keep asking him about it ad nauseum, both hilarious and entertaining.

Now, the New York Post claims to have a well-placed magazine source confirming the rumor I reported yesterday–that Adam will come out in a cover story for the next issue of Rolling Stone magazine.

So much ado over nothing.   I’m with Kara on this one.   I always assumed Adam was out, he doesn’t need to spell it out for me.   I’m so not comprehending the fuss.   But I am appreciating the hits. Which is what it’s all about in the end, I suppose.

ETA: Of course, Bill O’Reilly has to join the fray–Michael Slezak’s interview with Adam is going to be excerpted for a segment that will air on the O’Reilly Factor tonight.

    LOL, MJ.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

My video had over 200 hits before I even had a chance to post it. That’s just crazy.

  • http://www.irish-wolfhounds.com Buderschnookie

Well, I didn’t see Kara’s words as all that heinous an offense.

Yes, she probably should have referred it back to him with a flash of wit, but as comments go it’s the same as everyone else has been saying for months.

  • ilovetohateai

well once he “officially” says he is gay, what is there to talk about?

  • Victoria

    ^ His music?

I’m going to laugh so hard if this whole RS thing is about something completely different, like what label he’s signed with or something. :laugh_tb:

Wow MJ, 200 views before you posted it?! Nice!

  • Cakenbake

That is Adam’s business. He can do what ever he pleases.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

    OMG MJ, really? That’s insane.

Also, Slezak just tweeted that Adam’s Idolatry segment would be discussed on The O’Reilly Factor tonight. Hee.

  • BootStar

I like how Kara handled it, very matter-of-factly. Adam has nothing to be ashamed of, hence, she doesn’t need to pretend she had no idea.

I loved how they all thought Bobwa said that Ryan tweeted that he would be coming out with the big announcement soon. Still waiting for that one, LOL!

  • leome

If he comes out in the cover of RS I guess that’s the reason he’s not answering the question directly… probably he sold the exclusive to RS and won’t be commenting till then. It’s all about creating buzz and use the situation. And the more he keeps he suspense, the more people will talk about it, some will get pissed, some will defend him… gotta give it to Adam, if what he wants is to have his name out there because of his sexual orientation he’s clearly doing it well.
That RS can’t come soon enough.

Btw, I don’t see anything wrong with what Kara said. I always though he was gay too.

  • gingerly

lol, MJ. Thanks for the summary because I don’t like The View, I don’t like Kara, and I don’t care what happens in Rolling Stone.

  • canadiandcfan

    i really like Kara’s hair.

  • canadiandcfan

    woops double post!
i hope all the speculation ends soon, i can’t wait to focus more on his music :)

  • Sunn

I’m so tired of this subject. I swear to god I have no idea why anyone would care.

  • unique28v

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to laugh so hard if this whole RS thing is about something completely different, like what label heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s signed with or something.

Me too. At least we now know the cover story is probably legit. But yeah, I have a feeling its not going to be everything people are expecting.

Also, Slezak just tweeted that Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Idolatry segment would be discussed on The Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly Factor tonight. Hee.

I guess he’s going to lecture Adam and tell him that he should have been embarassed about the pictures……. This is edging on the verge of ridiculous here.

  • Cakenbake

When Adam feels comfortable he will admit if he is, not the media.

  • SparklesATL

    I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like The View

High 5! I cannot stand those women and to put them all together on a sofa is my biggest nightmare. Who cares what they think?

Is Whoopie pregnant? She sure looks like it.

  • wellhesback

MJ – I agree with your point of view here (and Kara’s for that matter). I do think Adam Lambert is being very coy. He strikes me in interviews as being very smart, practical, and grown up about the business he wants to be in. He’s not above using some of this buzz about his sexuality for getting more publicity for himself – but so what. He’s not hurting any gay cause, I don’t think by coming out in a major magazine article, rather than in some other fashion. It’s his choice, after all.

  • KayGee

I am sick of this story…WHO REALLY CARES if Adam is not heterosexual…I surely don’t.

If I have to see one more blog dedicated to the “IF ADAM IS GAY” phenomona, I think I will puke. I am trying to read the things about Adam that matter, this drivel is just ridiculous!!!

    GIVE IT A REST!!!

BTW: Kara is stupid for feeding into any questions regarding Adam’s sexuality…I think she should have said “I have no idea, I haven’t asked him, I haven’t seen him sleeping with men or women, and it isn’t my business to discuss!!!”

  • Victoria

Also, Slezak just tweeted that Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Idolatry segment would be discussed on The Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly Factor tonight. Hee.

I hope this doesn’t become some kind of back-and-forth thing. O’Reilly just needs to let it go.

    ETA: Kara looks pretty :)

  • Renina

Yeah, That comment Kara made on Adam “Never really being in the closet” was blown WAY out of proportion. Some need to chill :smoke_tb:

  • BootStar

Adam is very smart, and while I totally understand how this whole “coy” thing could be annoying to a lot of out folks, I kind of understand why the kid may have chosen to leverage all the hoopla over his sexual orientation to his advantage. Do we think Adam would have gotten the cover of RS if he’d been out all along? Their “breaking the story” will make them AND Adam a lot of money, no doubt.

  • undercooked

Also, Slezak just tweeted that Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Idolatry segment would be discussed on The Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly Factor tonight. Hee.

You know Keith Oberman is going to pick up on this. And O’Reilly will get to be one “worse person in the world” once again.

  • gangreen29

I really like Kara in interviews, I find her voice slightly grating on the show, but she sounds like a completely different person off of it. I think she thought she had to be this loud, brash person to fit into American idol, and that isn’t who she really is. I hope next season she feels more comfortable being herself, because I think she can give constructive criticism when given the chance

  • undercooked

He strikes me in interviews as being very smart, practical, and grown up about the business he wants to be in. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not above using some of this buzz about his sexuality for getting more publicity for himself – but so what. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s his choice, after all.

Agreed. I think Adam is focused on his career so he is leveraging this to his full advantage. It may not be true, but I like to think this is a wee bit of a slap in the face to Perez Hilton, and all of the gay EW writers (accept Slezak) who keep trying to out him and trash him for not being a gay role model. Take that! Besides, Adam can be a role model to all kids (not just the gay ones) that feel weird or different in school.

Adam has got to focus on his brand. Madonna is a brand, and part of her brand is her bi-sexuality and theatrics. If Madonna, through the course of her career by putting it all out there has opened some people up to new sexual ideas, than that is terrific. I think that should be Adam’s goal. Educate people with music, not with political statements.

  • windmills

It’d probably have been better if Kara’d stuck to saying that she respects Adam for his fearlessness and always staying true to himself and if she backed him up saying she never felt he hid anything. That would’ve been less quotable. But what she did say is not that bad at all and I don’t think it was her trying to get herself some extra attention.

I still think Kara hasn’t adjusted to the soundbyte driven setting that is TV, whether it’s AI or The View. I read a Billboard article about her a couple years back and she’s made a lot of good decisions as far as her publishing company. She’s a smart lady.

LOL @ the View ladies thinking Ryan was going to make an announcement.

  • BootStar

Huffingtonpost is giving the story some major space. Maybe Cook should announce he’s bi (j/k!).

  • Tess

I do not understand the brew-ha-ha about Kara and the View. She answered a direct question with a direct answer the exact same way I would have done. She wasn’t betraying a confidence, or speaking out of turn, she was answering per her own perspective of someone who (based on what she had heard and observed) was gay. Every one of Adam’s on air video moments reinforced the obvious, and they came from himself and his parents.

  • lola

I’m glad its over. Or is it? I guess the media will be interviewing the other fellow Idol contestants. I guess Adam had it all planned. He has to prove first that he got the talent and worth the attention. If he sells or not, then that when the activist in him will come in. The Rolling Stone Magazine is worth waiting for.

  • snuffles

What annoys me about this whole situation is that gay people in the media (like Perez and that guy raging on Defamer or that jerk from EW) are USING Adam as a lightening rod to vent all their pent up personal issues. The way they are just RAGING on about this just boggles the mind. They’re just using Adam as their punching bag du jour and it’s SO NOT FAIR for Adam.

  • maria4hitz

If Adam wants to come out in Rolling Stone and he sold the exclusive to them then I understand why he hasn’t talked about it with the press, he just can’t. And it’ll be great publicity for him and good sales for RS. I say good for him. If everyone in the media is talking about him being gay or not, I don’t see why he can’t talk about it and answer a couple of questions. I do hope the RS article won’t focus on that, I hope it is about his album, AI, etc. Rolling Stone LOVES him because he’s really talented so I don’t think the gay thing will be the only subject.
If Adam wants to do it this way, then I’ll support him, I trust him.

  • unique28v

You know Keith Oberman is going to pick up on this. And Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly will get to be one à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“worse person in the worldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ once again.

When is BOR not one of Oberman’s worst person in the world?? lol

O’Reilly must need ratings or something because he really should let it go. Adam didn’t say anything derogatory towards him in the idolatry video.

  • undercooked

Maybe Cook should announce heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s bi (j/k!).

I know this is off topic, but I kind of always thought Cook was. He always seems to be cuddly with his band mate Andy. I think it is cute.

  • jonoave

Man, I’m not familiar with this show – outside of US and all. But I give up after 1 minute – so much screeching and talking over. Personally, I don’t quite like how Adam sounds but the people on this show really take the cake.

  • BootStar

Speaking of Huffingtonpost, how did I miss this last week???

Adam Lambert and Susan Boyle Sing a Duet

  • taks

I wasn’t a huge Kara fan during the show. But the more I see of her off Idol, the more I respect her. I think her comment was great in that she placed absolutely zero emphasis on it. She shoved it aside as the non-issue it should be and I completely respect her for it.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I hope she’s back for next year (I could do without Randy though).

  • TKat

LOL at Barbara and her comment about Ryan coming out!! Now that would be a story.

I agree that Kara looked great but also should have had a better answer for a question that she knew she would be asked. Even Kris has done a great job with this question, and he is not a PR master.

Being an AI judge really means that you need to be able to represent the show well, create press without making real controversy (Simon and Ryan have truly mastered this) and be articulate about music. Kara just does seem to get it. I don’t think that if fans could vote on judges, Kara would be back.

Finally, if Bill O. does yet another Adam is gay story, he deserved to be “Worst Person in the World” one more time.

  • SashaB

Adam getting another magazine cover is good for his brand. Hope the emphasis is on his music and his Idol performances over the personal stuff. But it does certainly take the oxygen away from Kris. But then again, Kris can just go about and do his thing.

  • unique28v

Personally, I find his toying with the journos, who keep asking him about it ad nauseum, both hilarious and entertaining.

I do too. I love his responses.

Kris gets to go to Disneyworld and Adam has to deal with these idiots.

  • annabelina

Personally, I find his toying with the journos, who keep asking him about it ad nauseum, both hilarious and entertaining.

That was my perception as well. I never thought he was in the closet. I just assumed that he’d rather talk about his music and his run on Idol. All this “coming out” business is pretty ridiculous. People are making too much fuss over it.

  • Jayd

“well once he à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“officiallyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ says he is gay, what is there to talk about?”

    “^ His music?”

    Yes!

This has become an obsession for some of these media outlets, and I am talking about the gossip mongers of the world, Perez, TMZ, Bill O’Reilly (snort) etc. They’ll have to move on to something else once they get what they came for. I really don’t care one way or the other, I just like to watch him and hear him talk and sing. I’ll give him every inch of my love either way. :wink1_tb:

I think that Kara’s observation was a natural response. Adam has never tried to hide his true self from the press. I felt kind of bad for her, actually. It seemed like they brought her on the show for this purpose, and really didn’t let her talk at all after she mentioned it. I don’t watch this show normally, is always like that with their guests?

  • Ellie2

The one who ended up looking like an idiot on The View was Barbara Walters with her stupid comment about Adam’s “black hair and nail polish” somehow indicating that he’s gay. Really, Barbara? *sigh*

  • unique28v

These newspaper headings are very misleading. Kara just said that she assumes Adam is “out” due to what she’s seen, meaning internet pictures, etc. Kara never said Adam TOLD her he was gay… These journalists are just twisting her words around. I almost feel sorry for her. She’s going to get a lot of flack for this, and she didn’t really say anything except state the obvious.

  • RubySlippers

My video had over 200 hits before I even had a chance to post it. Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just crazy.

Lolz. We are soooooooo Adam deprived.

I do not understand the brew-ha-ha about Kara and the View. She answered a direct question with a direct answer the exact same way I would have done. This. She just said “she thinks” he’s out. BFD.

I really want to know what Adam is wearing/or not wearing on the cover of RS!!

  • TKat

Speaking of Huffingtonpost, how did I miss this last week???

Adam Lambert and Susan Boyle Sing a Duet

Bootstar. Thanks for posting, I hadn’t seen this. LMAO! And still laughing!!

  • lucy

When a person appears at lots of gay-pride events over years, is seen in Internet photos kissing another guy and simply says, “yeah, that’s me!”, and has his own brother posting on the web that, “don’t get your hopes up, girls, Adam’s gay,” then that person is out and has been out and has no need to “tell” anyone else anything.

The word “admit” connected to all of this drives me crazy. You only are required to “admit” to what’s bad. Nobody ever “admitted” to being heterosexual. Sickening stupid hideous double standard.

And I have no idea how anyone could deal with this situation in anything but an awkward way. He doesn’t think it’s bad, so he sure as heck ain’t going to “admit” it.

And I gather he told his high-school classmates at their senior breakfast — which was, what, nine years ago now. So if announcing you’re gay to hundreds of kids at a gathering in a public high school doesn’t count as “coming out,” I don’t know what does.
Where did we get the requirement that coming out wasn’t enough, so you have to come out again and again in every venue you enter? It’s absolutely creepy, as is the media fascination with this crap.

  • snuffles

You know, as much as this endless crap is annoying me, I’m pretty sure Adam is LOVING every second of it. He’s always said that he wants the get people talking – well buddy, you’re doing a bang up job!

And if Adam wants to use the speculation as leverage to get more publicity and nail a Rolling Stone cover and feature article, then I say more power to him!! He’s got a career to think of – why shouldn’t he use whatever he can to his advantage. It’s a brilliant business move.

I think people like Perez and EW are pissed because THEY didn’t get the “scoop”. Adam has EVERY RIGHT to do it HIS way. I swear, some people are acting like they OWN Adam and have the right to dictate Adam’s life for him.

  • wand3rful

old babs just wouldn’t let go of this topic, she kept hammering kara for an answer (wouldnt even let her finish her comments about kris/the finale). really, get a chill pill lady.

    btw, kara looks damn good.

and i do hope she stays w. the show (willing to give her another shot)…as long as the quips BETWEEN the judges stop. i know many blame the addition of kara for the time constraints, but i blame the lame, unnecessary banter btw simon and paula and simon and ryan, etc.

  • cookcricket

I hope next season she feels more comfortable being herself, because I think she can give constructive criticism when given the chance

    1) I hope Kara is back next season.
    2) I also think she gave some really good feedback this year.
    - She told Adam he needed to connect more emotionally with his songs and he said this was the best advice he got from a judge.
    - She had Kris pegged when saying he did not play the idol game.
    3) The more I see of Kara in interviews outside of idol, the more I like her.

  • hypertwink

I can understand why some gays are a little miffed about Adam. I got a little eh about him when he kept on teasing the whole time…it sort of became a game that seemed bigger than the whole thing. Now, it’s an even bigger deal than it is, and if he doesn’t deliver on the tease or he doesn;t live up to the expectation as the Great Gay Hope, he only has himself to blame for becoming a sideshow,

    Good luck to him.

  • JKL

Adam’s OUT & proud. He always has been. I still don’t get why people are so obsessed with wanting it in print. Should I release a press annoucement revealing to the world I’m a straight female into straight men? :/

Adam said in his Idoltary he just wanted to sing, not represent a movement & cause but he also said if people have latched onto that, he can’t ignore it…so if an official bulletin will help kids out there who feel a little wierd or segregated & need a role-model then it’s a good thing. But ugh, I just don’t want him to be the media’s one-note headline.

Anyway, Adam’s (hilarious) brother Neil confirmed the obvious a good while ago.

    http://topidol.wordpress.com/2009/05/24/adam-lambert-chasing-off-clueless-chicks-since-way-before-idol/

  • spencer

I suppose everyone’s entitled to their “15 minutes of fame”

  • Tess

    A moment of realism…

Everyone but a few over-invested fans and people who really thought Kris won because he is the better singer (and I’m not being rude) are getting a kick out of what is going on. AI is absolutely LOVING every bit of the controversy…this is more post production hype than they have gotten in all 8 years of the show. 19 is absolutely LOVING this because the names Adam Lambert AND Kris Allen are in the mainstream news (the voter controversy, etc.) and this will help people identify with them come fall when there albums come out. Itunes is Loving this because they are selling more downloads because people want to know what the fuss is about. Magazines love this because if they put either Idol on the cover people will read the magazine. Adam loves it because, even having lost the title, he is getting the press (his Publicist must be over estatic), the internet loves it because all kinds of sites dealing with the Idols are getting hits.

Isn’t this what TPTB set out to accomplish when they “cast” Season 8. They must be laughing all the way to the bank to think that their little drama caused all this furor.

Nobody is loosing right now. I’m sure that Kris gets it, too. He’s an intelligent young man and he knows that the more all of this goes on the bigger success the tour will be and the bigger his name recognition will be down the road.
I think all of this is just GREAT. Besides, it helps me fill some boring days.

  • downeast

    Sickening stupid hideous double standard.

    A to the men. Twice.

If this nonsense keeps up for the next two weeks, I’ll have to put myself on an internet moratorium. Because gawdamighty you should see how crazy it’s gotten on some sites. Clay is a saint, Adam is the devil. Adam can’t be a role model unless he comes out. Bla de bla de bla. And I’m a HUGE fan of Adam’s.

How about we talk about Kris’ album plans or something? How did Katy like Disneyworld? Why is it THEY DON’T WANT KIDS gasp, horror? I mean, the guy WON right?

  • romanovna

This is a classic “teachable” moment, and I hope Adam & the Rolling Stone editors take the opportunity to have a meaningful discussion about the nature of sexuality in our culture. Just as Obama did with his speech on race.

Let’s talk about the meaning of public & private sexuality in our culture, the necessity of announcing one’s sexuality, whether one can “come out” if one has never been “in”, whether or not the public “needs” to know things, etc.

Take this opportunity, Rolling Stone! Let’s have an adult discussion about an important cultural issue. The country clearly needs it.

  • lovethecheesyshow

The word à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“admità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ connected to all of this drives me crazy. You only are required to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“admità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s bad. Nobody ever à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“admittedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to being heterosexual. Sickening stupid hideous double standard.

Lucy, couldn’t agree more. why gay people have to “come out” in the first place? straight ones never have to “come out” and say “I AM straight”. as if they have to be labelled and marked as “gay” to be discriminated from the “normal” ones! sick!

I can understand why some gays are a little miffed about Adam. I got a little eh about him when he kept on teasing the whole timeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦it sort of became a game that seemed bigger than the whole thing. Now, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s an even bigger deal than it is, and if he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t deliver on the tease or he doesn;t live up to the expectation as the Great Gay Hope, he only has himself to blame for becoming to big to live up to.

    Good luck to him.

I disagree completely and it that’s a totally unfair assessment. DURING the show his intent was to keep the focus on the SINGING. It’s NOT his fault that people like VFTW rooted through his social networking pages and posted his personal pictures. And it’s NOT his fault that other news outlets picked it up and ran with it. And it’s NOT his fault that the media won’t shut the fu@k up about it either.

As for POST Idol, don’t be so quick to judge. There could be a multitude of reasons that Adam is playing “coy” about it. The first being – and immediate announcement would have TOTALLY overshadowed Kris’ win. And seeing as they’re such good friends, Adam could be trying to hold things off so Kris can get the focus right now. The other reason could be that they worked out the Rolling Stone deal and he HAS to play coy for now. It may frustrate other people in the media, but that’s what the business is like.

And it’s NOT Adam’s fault that some people want to put him on a pedestal and make him “The Great Gay Hope”. It’s SO not fair to lay ALL of this at Adam’s feet.

  • SparklesATL

Note to Perez & the others mentioned above; as long as a gay person has to make an announcement that they are gay, there will never be equality.

    Just my opinion.

I had an epiphany; Adam will “come out” in RS without saying the words “I’m gay.” He will say that because he’s been living the lifestyle for years and hasn’t tried to hide it or cover it up, the brouhaha the press has been making about it is just them “riding his coattails.”

Take that Clay. Boom! Take that Press. Bam!

    Adam is superman!

  • gingerly

Tess, I honestly think Kris is the better singer. I don’t fool myself that he has the better voice, but I do believe Kris is the better singer. The two things aren’t the same. I’m enjoying this because I love a good bitch fight. I especially love it when the bitchee gets the best of the bitcher. I don’t believe Clay knew what he was in for. Adam is nobody to be toyed with, as he’s proven himself so well. I love Adam for himself but not for his singing. I love Kris more for what he does with music. I don’t believe it has to be a yes or no, this or that, type of thing. I most of all believe that American Idol isn’t the be all end all. It’s what they do after that is so very important. I think both Kris and Adam understand that and are conducting themselves thusly.

  • Ellie2

I just don’t get why Adam not discussing his personal life, (but at the same time not keeping it a secret) is a big deal. I also never got the idea that Adam thought he was the Great Gay Hope. I think he even mentioned in his Idolatry vid that some of this stuff was being projected on to him. I really do think the gay community is driving this much more than the “straight” community. If I were Adam I think I would resent people trying to turn his Idol run into something more than it is.

    I had an epiphany; Adam will à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“come outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ in RS without saying the words à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m gay.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

If he does this, he’s going to be be the biggest cocktease this side of WeHo. And you thought that the frontrunner backlash was awful…

  • Trina

Kris gets to go to Disneyworld and Adam has to deal with these idiots.

I’d like to think winning has at least SOME perks. Kris has been dealing with idiots the last few days himself.

Dude, still not getting it. It’s time to get rid of labels. I think it would be terrific if Adam said something to the fact that he has romantic relationships with men and he also adores spending time with women. I think from everything out there, we can all come to that conclusion. And Adam can say all of that without using the word “gay.” Why is that word so important? And I’m not being flip, but I’m not getting why it is?

  • Nedsdag

I’m a subscriber to Rolling Stone, but to be totally honest, I really don’t care. Maybe Jann Wenner cares, but I don’t. I said this before and I’ll say it again: I don’t care if Adam had group sex with every gay man in California in broad daylight, it doesn’t matter.

Why can’t it be an open secret like Queen Latifah, Jodie Foster, or Lily Tomlin? Why drag people out of the closet who don’t want to be dragged out (I’m talking to YOU Mario/Perez)? Get over it. Fight against Prop 8 and other important issues.

  • LaurelG

Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not above using some of this buzz about his sexuality for getting more publicity for himself – but so what.

gotta give it to Adam, if what he wants is to have his name out there because of his sexual orientation heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s clearly doing it well.

Adam is simply reacting. He’s not driving this story. And he’s not stupid either. He knows that coming out will hurt him more than help him but what can he do? The mainstream media and bloodsuckers like Perez and Adam Markovitz of EW won’t leave him alone. Ever. So he is making the best of the situation by trying to control the delivery of the news by picking one of the more respected magazines like RS who will hopefully focus on his music as well.

I really don’t think Adam wants to be the poster child for gay causes nor do I think he wants to be defined by his gayness. He wants to be a singer/performer who happens to be gay, who sets an example because he’s so comfortable in his own skin and who’s out there living his own life openly and normally. Adam wants it to be about his music. He’s always said that and I believe him. In a perfect world, people would find out Adam was gay when someone interviewed him and he said, “This is my boyfriend.” Matter of fact. No big deal. That’s the way Adam would handle it given the choice. The point to remember here is that his “choices” at this point are pretty limited.

What annoys me about this whole situation is that gay people in the media (like Perez and that guy raging on Defamer or that jerk from EW) are USING Adam as a lightening rod to vent all their pent up personal issues.

So sad and so true. The only consolation is that when you read the comments to the posts made by readers, those guys are really getting slammed. The resonse is overwhelmingly negative and, by overwhelmingly, I mean maybe 10 out of 300 agree with them and the rest passionately and vehemently disagree with them.

  • mandalay

    straight ones never have to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“come outà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and say à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I AM straightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . as if they have to be labelled and marked as à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“gayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ to be discriminated from the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“normalà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ones! sick!

Ummm, but Danny and Michael felt it was necessary.

  • listen

Everyone but a few over-invested fans and people who really thought Kris won because he is the better singer (and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not being rude) are getting a kick out of what is going on.

Beg to differ here. I am not getting a kick out of this only because it BORES ME TO TEARS… :thumbdown_tb:

Sigh, I just wish it would all be over soon. There is so much more to Adam than this… I guess he is bemused by all the hoopla, which is better than being upset.

Wonder what his parents think of all this ? I suppose they are bemused as well…

  • SparklesATL

Why canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t it be an open secret like Queen Latifah, Jodie Foster, or Lily Tomlin? Why drag people out of the closet who donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to be dragged out (Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m talking to YOU Mario/Perez)? Get over it. Fight against Prop 8 and other important issues.

And now some of the gays are pissed that Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been coy with the press. Personally, I find his toying with the journos, who keep asking him about it ad nauseum, both hilarious and entertaining.

lol .. me too. I enjoy all his little double entendres If he does actually make a statement saying “I’m Gay” .. what will the like of Perez have to talk and bitch about? …lol

For me it will be a huge anticlimax to read a whole article where Adam admit’s he’s gay …. it’s kind of like “well tell us something we didn’t know” …lol

I’m sure there’s far more interesting things to read about and learn about Adam than his sexuality.

  • lola

Yes, you can tell it from his videos and from some of his performances that he’s gay but I guess I have this wishful thinking that he might have a change of heart later on. He presented himself well as being mysterious. He will survive. He’s still have a lot of things going for him. I have a feeling that Obama might even invite him in future Whitehouse social functions.

Oh Adam….you are way too cute….at least you get it even though a whole bunch of other people don’t!! By the way, I love Neil’s blog. That “amazing” sense of humour seems to be a very strong family trait. Like Eber like sons.

Awlful?? Its still the Adam Lambert Show post-idol. I think Adam is making out pretty well actually……. LOL

  • http://absinthedreamers.blogspot.com/ Starrlight

Note to Perez & the others mentioned above; as long as a gay person has to make an announcement that they are gay, there will never be equality.

    This. Seriously.

I don’t assume that folks wander around having behind my back discussion on if I like guys or not. So the thought of having to make an “Yes, ladies and gentlemen of the press, I am straight!” announcement is silly to me.

WHY would we expect a gay person to behave differently? Again should Reuben take out a full page ad stating he is black? Should Carrie and Kelly join the vagina monologues and out their uteri? It’s silly.

  • LindaT

I actually thought Kara’s response was fine. She treated Barbara’s question very matter-of-factly — her response kind of said “why is this an issue — of course he’s gay”. (By the way, I really can’t stand watching The View; all of the hosts are very annoying, except for Whoopi.) Also, I think it’s pretty obvious that Adam is gay, and his brother even confirmed it in his blog over a year ago. So why all the questions, and why does Adam need to “confirm” whether he is gay? I think that already happened a while ago.

For my own part, I still don’t get why Adam’s sexuality is such a big deal. He’s a singer/entertainer — who cares whether he prefers girls or boys in bed? Is this really going to influence whether you buy his music or not?

Oh good grief! Now there’s a National Enquirer article about Adam.

  • stelladallas

Why aren’t questions regarding sexual preferences being asked of Anoop? Or Scott? Or Allison? I mean really.

Next thing we know, when people audition before the AI judges, the judges will ask, “What’s your name, what are you going to sing, and what is your sexual orientation?”

  • brextra

And I gather he told his high-school classmates at their senior breakfast à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ which was, what, nine years ago now.

    Curious….

Is there a source for this? Thanks.

  • BootStar

Maybe Adam is going to reveal in RS that he got married in California while it was still legal, but chose not to risk the reaction of single fans (of both sexes!) by revealing that he was already taken. Now THAT would be news. Otherwise, what exactly is the big story? Only the fools at PEOPLE magazine and Clay Aiken thought his big “coming out” was news.

  • cay

I honestly can’t believe how horrible the gay community and others have been towards Adam. The guy said all he wanted to do was sing and entertain. He’s tried to have a sense of humor about this, but people are going way overboard. The guy should not have to answer anyone’s darn question about his private life. Why do people want to destroy this guy? It hurt him in Idol, and now it’s still hurting him. Now people threaten that he’ll get backlash no matter what he decides to do or say.

I can honestly say that I’ve never seen so much pressure and attention put on any one human being to completely reveal his personal life. After years and years of being the struggling artist and he now has a chance. And he gets this treatment. I pray to God something good and kind will come his way.

  • Tess

The only thing that’s at all good about these journalists being ridiculous and basically calling for Adam to ‘declare himself gay’ is that it a lot of people seem to disagree.

That post on EW is probably 80-90 percent in Adam’s favor. And the post on the gawker site seems evenly matched. Now, it could just be because Adam fans are loyally commenting in droves. But I think that really, most people just don’t care.

It’s only the media that seems to not be able to let it go.

  • agathe.hb

snuffles, I could not agree more!!!! One would think that gay people should rather support their own, not persecute them. UNBELIEVABLE!!!
I have many gay friends, my daughter loves them and defends all the weird kids at school, because she feels they need that (she is 13). I just hope that the next generation will be more tolerant and less prejudiced

  • brewster

This is pretty much the way today’s celebrities make names for themselves. Whatever you have to sell, you sell. Doesn’t matter if it is your addiction, your bad marriage, your criminal behavior, or your sexuality. It is all up for sale. And, unfortunately, there are plenty of people willing to buy it. What a sad commentary.

  • lola

For Adam’s first recording, I would suggest something of social concern in the tune of a Change is Gonna Come. I’d like him to draw social awareness to the people through his music. This will be a hit for him.

  • undercooked

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s only the media that seems to not be able to let it go.

We know that the EW writer is gay.
We know that Perez is gay.
Do we know if the Gawker writer is gay?

It really does seem to me that the gay writers are trying to make Adam some sort of symbol and they are pissed that he isn’t playing their game.

Most people just want to hear Adam sing and want to find out what kind of album he is going to make. What he does with his personal life is his biz. Adam is in his mid-20s. Right now, I’m sure he wants to get his career launched. I’m sure there will be a time in the future that he will want to discuss politics, but I’m not getting that this is that time. Those writers need to chill.

  • GeminiDolly

Stupid me thinking the Rolling Stone cover would be about Adam’s music. Nope, all people are going to talk about is Adam being gay.

  • weareallinnocent

Well, I said my peace about BOR and Clay in another thread, so I’ll spare you all a painful repetition here. :-)

All of this makes me a little sad for Adam. For those who ask, the media cannot refer to him as gay until he refers to himself that way. So they dance around the topic and endlessly ask the question. Once he answers it definitively, the story will no longer center around the possibility that he’s gay, it will discuss the reality that he’s gay. But the story will still be that he’s gay.

    Pathetic.

ETA: Politics and hot button issues aside, all these other media outlets hounding for answers and writing expose’ type articles today are simply trying to scoop Rolling Stone. It’s no coincidence to me that once it leaked that RS had the story, every other outlet pounced. Again, pathetic.

  • ejw89109

This is just driving me crazy. I just have a hard time understanding why this is such a big deal. I live in Vegas. 90% of the show people here are gay. No one cares. My hairdresser is gay. I love him !! I just want to grab people, shake them and say, “leave him alone.” It is no one’s business. I don’t think he should have to publicly admit to anything. People are stupid if they can’t figure it out. It seems life can’t go on without verbal confirmation. As for “Bull” O’Reilly, he is a pompous ass. Who gives a twit what he thinks.

  • jpfan

This may sell some magazines and gather some Internet hits but I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion yet that it’s going to lead to mega sales of downloads and albums. What sells music is not the same as what sells gossip mags.

How about how we start with step 1 and see how the sales of the Idol tour does. That’s usually a good indicator of fan interest, buzz, etc.

  • SparklesATL

Why arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t questions regarding sexual preferences being asked of Anoop? Or Scott? Or Allison? I mean really.

Because they aren’t newsworthy. Reporters who won’t let go of the Adam thing (yeah, you Perez) have two beliefs; If you come out and say you are straight, you are really gay and in the closet, if you are gay and won’t get on a soapbox and announce it, you are in the closet.

    You can’t win either way.

Thanks mj and the rest who gave an insight on what went on the show. I couldn’t bring myself to press ‘play’. I claim to be a Kris fan, but I don’t think I could watch him if he shows up at that show — just like I couldn’t watch the billy bush bit. His name alone makes me cringe.

Well, we all know Adam is gay. Most of knew Clay was gay. Some gays just can’t hide it. Unlike, Rock Hudson, who hid it for years. What a wasted crush that was. LOL
Kris is the better singer, but Adam is getting all the press.
Kris won and this should be his time.

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

He hasnt been playing coy, he doesnt have to come out, he has never been in, I think he finds it all amusing that it has gone to this extent. He IS hilarious in the way that he is going forward with this, you are right on about that MJ. Adam nor did AI bill Adam as “the first openly gay contestant”, the media, Perez Hilton, everyone else did, that is why it is so funny how so many gays and journalists have got their little panties all in a ruffle, or whatever, Oh panties all in a bunch, too funny hunnies

Anyhow, I just read that Kris is the gay one and his wife is just a cover, lol – Adam isnt getting all the press just because of the gay, issue it is because his talent is huge and he is the better singer in his genre, while Kris is good in what he does – Kris didnt win because he has the better voice, ugh – sorry for going there again but just – uh – no

  • mikeyb

I think the gays that are upset at Adam waiting until now to publicly state that he’s gay to the mainstream press (he’s been out forever to anyone that’s really cared) are just working through their own issues.

Adam’s not obligated to be our poster-boy. He was a contestant on a talent competition, and given the nature of the vehicle, his sexuality would have totally overshadowed the competition if he had said “I’m gay” at any point earlier. MJ is right; he couldn’t have said it without overshadowing Kris’ win, and I think leaving things unsaid was the professional thing to do.

Come on, guys, I know you don’t all have gaydar, but the boy has flashing neon signs. No one who’s actually in the closet behaves like Adam did and does– hiding would have been to deny being gay like Clay Has-been-ken.

And as for being a role model– Adam wants to be a role model for future entertainers and performers. I don’t see what the big deal is about that. The fact is, he hasn’t signed up to be a spokesman for any cause, and he’s not obligated to. I think it’s terrible when public figures or celebrities stay closeted, but he’s clearly not. =P

I just hope this doesn’t negatively impact his worldwide marketability, because sexuality is a much bigger (if you can imagine) issue and a deal-breaker in Asia, where he does have a following.

  • http://emmarude65embarqmail.com carroll

So Adam in 2009 was supposed to be the first à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“openly gayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ contestant. However, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been playing coy so theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re annoyed.

I think he has always been open, but never found the need to discuss it. And I’m kind of confused, did Adam go before a gay community panel and have a discussion with them about auditioning for AI? Did this panel then vote to have Adam go on AI with the sole intent of being the first “openly gay” contestant?”

As far as I know, Adam came to a decision to audition for AI because he wanted a record contract. A bunch of photos of him were splashed over the internet and he said, hey, it is what it is.

It seems to me he plans on discussing it in RS. If he is being coy now, I’m sure it’s because of the deal with RS. It doesn’t seem to me to be any different than Brad and Angie making a deal with People to publish their baby pics.

By the way, if Adam decides to never use the word gay, that’s his choice. Not the gay community’s choice.

Still not getting why the gay community is so pissed.

  • colette

Y’know, I think both these guys are “safe” to the American public. I’ve never bought the “edgy” propaganda about Adam.

    They both love their Mommies.

Neither of them is an a-hole, and are both extremely grateful for their AI success, sweet to their fans, polite to the world and nice to each other.

If you’ll allow me a little historical perspective: Since the AIDS epidemic of the 1980s, when so many gay men were forced to come out because of their illness and need for care and family support, a lot of Americans have had to face the reality that gays aren’t “those people” but our friends, or relations, our celebrities, our co-workers, etc.

The two big hold-outs of homophobia are the military (due to IMO absurd concerns about people who risk their lives for this country together actually bunking in the same barracks), and the sports world. These are final bastions of machismo.

But Hollywood? Show biz? It was more than 20 years ago han Rock Hudson’s cover was blown, and since then it’s not anywhere near as big a deal.

However, it is STILL A PRIVATE DECISION. I support Adam in that. And at the same time, I think it’s perfectly ok for Kara to say what she thinks, as some one who is clearly totally accepting of who he is.

One last thought: I’m fascinated by how many women, who obviously get how Adam is “different,” find him really sexy and get all fangirly about him.

Gay men are “safe” for women to fantasize about, because the likelihood of us ever hooking up with them is close to nil! (It’s close to nil with straight male celebs too, but there’s still a bit of delusional hope.) But whatever his sexual proclivities, Adam is seductive and sexy to men AND women, and I love that! A lot of great entertainers have that androgyny, and it’s a wonderful reminder that attraction and sexiness are not an either/or proposition.

Also, Adam is a drama queen! He loves dress-up, make-up, acting out different characters, and keeping people guessing! It’s probably been a little scarey for him to come out — and a lot of fun for him to do this long, slinky fan dance about his sexual identity.

Oh, the Mommies! I just adored these interviews with Leila Lambert and Kim Allen. No wonder these boys turned out so cool:

Isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t this what TPTB set out to accomplish when they à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“castà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Season 8. They must be laughing all the way to the bank to think that their little drama caused all this furor.

I remember back before the season began and we learned that all of the contestants were going to live together in one house instead of the previous apartment arrangement. They hinted that this would be the “season of drama” and as I recall some of the news releases hyped it up pretty well.

At the time I envisioned “big brother” 24 hour video feed, contestants clashing, and snarks a plenty.
As the season got underway and none of this actually came to fruition my husband and I wondered several times “where is all the drama they promised us?”.

Little did we know that the drama was planned for after the finale!

Except does being effeminate and/or flamboyant mean you are gay 100 per cent of the time or just in denial? A lot of hetero musical types wear black nail polish, make up and “interesting”hair. How can we forget the days of hair bands?

The initial inference that Adam was gay before there were pictures or confirmations from brothers and stuff, wasn’t that in fact stereotyping someone? When of course ultimately who cares or who should care.

JPfan, Who is the gay winner? Thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a new one for me.
    I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t watch much idol any more, so maybe one I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t watch.

I think a lot of gay people assume Kelly Clarkson is gay. But she’s said numerous times that she isn’t. But, you know, in gay land, you’re gay until proven straight (which is never).

  • LaurelG

The Best Week Ever promo? So. freaking. hysterical! Adam has fantastic comedic timing.

Kara was asked (paraphrasing here) if she thought Adam’s perceived sexuality cost him the win. She basically answered by saying,”I always thought he was [gay],” although she used the word “out.” Nobody asked Kara if she thought Adam was gay. Whenever Adam or Kris were asked the same question, they both just said that the two of them presented two different styles of music and people made a choice. Yes, Kara should have been better prepared for the question, and basically her answer was moronic. I thought she was smarter than that.

Which is why I think this issue will dog Archie. Especially if Adam is “out”, then I am afraid the media will start going down the line of AI winners.

By the way, I don’t know too much about Taylor Hicks, is he married or dating? Anyone who is single (and doesn’t have kids) is going to be looked at.

  • GeminiDolly

If youre not married with children, you must be gay.

LOL! I was referring the the Kelly Clarkson gay rumors. Even though she has said she isn’t, those rumors still are flying.

ETA: One of the questions the media was told was off limits by Jive was the question about Archie’s sexuality. I don’t think the media is about to let this go for either Kelly or Archie, no matter what they say.

  • callitags

Note to Perez & the others mentioned above; as long as a gay person has to make an announcement that they are gay, there will never be equality.

sparkles, I could not agree more.

Who cares if Adam ever tells an interviewer those three magic words, “I am gay.” I’ve found his refusal to answer, what I consider to be inappropriate, questions about his sexuality rather amusing. What I’ve really enjoyed is the frustration of those who want to know so badly that they’ve turned it into this ridiculous controversy.

Adam should just be allowed to live his personal life as he sees fit, and if he’s publicly kissing men or women or both, who cares? More power to him!

  • LaurelG

I’m not married with children. I’m beginning to think I might be gay and simply don’t know it yet.

Adam lost because he’s gay, non-Christian and got so much praise because of his great talent and stage presence and recieved backlash for all of it. That’s the story of this year. Part of the story is the intolerance of gays for Adam. This has been going on since the start of Idol. Adam cannot win. He was used by the show, he’s being used by gays, he’s used by O’Reilly’s and conservatives, he’s being used by other contestant’s fans, used for hits by bloggers and media, used by Perez and it goes on and on.

If you don’t parade your love life in public, you must be gay.

If people speculate that you’re gay and you don’t loudly protest “I’m STRAIGHT!”, you must be gay.

If people speculate that you’re gay and you DO loudly protest “I’m STRAIGHT!”, you’re actually lying and…you must be gay.

If you’re not married with children, you must be gay.

That is correct. And that is why to me Adam isn’t necessarily being singled out on this question. People often say why is Adam the only one being asked this. But he’s not. Even straight people have to prove it before they aren’t gay in many eyes. And you can’t prove it. Look at Archie, Kelly, VFTW called Cook gay last season. Even being married with kids isn’t “proof” – Tom Cruise, John Travolta.

I don’t understand the need to know or disbelief when told, but it’s there.

  • Kath77

God, that BEW segment had me rolling! Adam’s timing is priceless! He needs his own sitcom, seriously.

I always think that the fear that many homophobics have about being approached by a “gay” person is so weird. I can remember 40 years ago before being gay was ever openly talked about that the individuals who were “gay” always seemed to easily link up with the other “gay” person that was around and it was like an instant beeline. While at Stewardess school, out of a class of 30 the two girls who were lesbians hooked up pretty much from day one. I’ve always firmly believed that “gaydar” is real…I don’t think that I’ve ever misjudged a person whether in or out of the closet. (not that I would ever say anything to them). I knew my cousin was gay as soon as we both hit puberty without a word being spoken.

That is why, I guess, I find all of this gay idol stuff so amusing. There were several guys in the final 36 that are probably gay and I firmly believe more than the 3 that seemed to be easily identified. Remember this was the idol year for the gay vs. Christian conservative theme. I also find it funny that I even noticed this because, really, as sexually liberal as I am it shouldn’t mean a twit to me. All that being said, I hope that Adam does succeed in breaking another invisible barrier that is still out there. I hope after this year the whole subject becomes a moot point and that nobody will care about the sexuality of any contestant on a reality program. A girl can dream, can’t she.

Thats old, and he wasn’t really a fan of Adam. He’s just projecting his own insecurities and issues onto Adam. I hope you also read the responses to that article. Adam isn’t getting hurt by anything.

  • TKat

Kris is the better singer, but Adam is getting all the press.
Kris won and this should be his time.

I can understand if someone prefers Kris’ style, appreciates his ability to arrange songs and the way he phrases music. But even Kris says that Adam is a better singer. And Kris is getting tons of press coverage. Adam is just getting more coverage.

It’s not Adam’s fault that the press in more interested in him. Adam is getting more press because people are more interested in Adam. Media is a business and they print what people read and advertisers want to buy. So if you look at online traffic, even post Idol win, Adam generates 2.8 times the traffic of Kris. And remains more popular in all the online polls.

Finally, almost all of Kris’ coverage is positive. Some of the Adam coverage is not positive. For example, look at Fox News – Adam will be the subject of Bill O’Reilly’s anti-gay bashing while Kris will be on the Mike Huckabee Show and perform. Which would you rather have?

  • lavender1960

Well I am happy to be devil’s advocate. I agree that Adam’s sexuality is his own business and I think even speculating is he gay or isn’t he all season was stupid. Who cares? Is someone entertaining is the only real criteria that should matter. To me anyway. Cute helps too. I am shallow in that way.

However, I can also see why certain members of the gay community are unhappy.

I think that many members of the gay community still believe they have a lot of battles to fight yet and Prop. 8 illustrates that fact. The rationale is that if a gay person is in a position where he or she has the eyes and ears and respect of the public and media and particularly where they gain recognition or fame in areas that gays were previously excluded from or felt it necessary to stay in the closet in order to succeed, if they are open about their sexuality from the get go, it furthers the cause of the various battles of the gay community and serves as a role model for other gays. That is the argument anyway. Also it is an acknowledgement of the courage of others that have taken a stand that went before you and from which you now benefit. This is a common argument in the African American community. If you are successful, you owe it to those that struggled before you and those that are still struggling to give a hand up and/or serve as a role model.

By being coy all season, and not being direct about his sexuality, when asked, can you read that as he was ashamed of his sexuality or squandered an opportunity to be a role model during the whole season or did Adam just feel being open would have killed his chances of winning. Which would just reinforces the fear of many gays who feel they do have to stay in the closet to succeed.

But I agree that he didn’t volunteer to be a gay poster boy -and aye there’s the rub. He didn’t volunteer and by bashing Adam because he isn’t following the political handbook probably does more harm than good in the end. Be more productive by letting Adam do his thing in his own way. Patience is a virtue.

Bwah sorry snuffles but many hetero men use hair product as much as gay men these days – ask any hair stylist. Makeup is probably more unusual unless you are Marilyn Manson or KISS but guyliner is certainly not limited to gay performers for sure. Nor black nail polish. We are in the age of the metrosexual chic and rocker chic.

  • SparklesATL

I was fantasizing that the platform Adam would support would be “Homophobic Homo’s” and call Perez out and keep hammering him to “come out” and admit he’s afraid of gay men who are comfortable with their sexuality.

  • snuffles

I know lavender, I was being sarcastic. There are tons of people out there that were saying “Of COURSE Adam’s gay, did you not SEE the eyeliner and nail polish!?” Like that’s the first clue to every male’s gayness. It’s just another stereotype. A stereotype used by gay and straight alike.

  • GeminiDolly

Kris Allen from his EW interview. I thought this was a great response.

On his frustration with Christians who wouldn’t accept Adam Lambert.
Christians have a hard time accepting people like Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ liberal, from L.A., looks different, maybe acts a certain way. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a great, great guy. They donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t even give him a chance. And ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s frustrating because I come from that. A lot of my friends are not that way, which I appreciate, but a lot of people in Arkansas or in the South or wherever are that way. We really hope that our relationship can be an inspiration to people. I could go on about that forever.

    Oh and yes GO ADAM!
On the Idols having to lip-synch for many of the early group performances.
That whole lip-synch thing, we were so upset about it. They were like, “It’s hard to blend the 10 voices” or whatever. After a while, we complained enough and Adam’s pretty good at taking a stand. We’d be like, “Yeah, Adam! Go, Adam!” He would always lead the pack. He was the first one to be bold and say something [to the producers].

    However, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been playing coy so theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re annoyed.

I apologize if this is a double post, but I don’t think Adam’s playing coy so much as he is simply refusing (in a charming, good-humored way) to be drawn into the discussion until he’s ready. Adam’s never lied about who he is. He openly discusses his life, his friends, the internet pictures, the meaning that “A Change is Gonna Come” had for him personally, etc. If people are unable to connect the dots without a headline in bold, then that’s their problem…not Adam’s.

Regarding the “angry gay” perception- I think this week the gay population and those who supports gay rights are very vocal this week. The California Supreme Court ruled unfavorably towards Proposition 99 last week and in at least a hundred cities there were demonstrations against the ruling. In New York, there were quite a few of them early Tuesday morning. This week there has been a call to action throughout the country. I’m not sure how Adam plays into this appeal for action since I had been taking a break from the AI/Adam oversaturation, but reading the AI news today, I wonder if this is why the general tone is a bit heated from certain writers like the EW writer.

  • kate09

Oh I love that quote from Kris about his relationship with Adam…Kradam just brings me such joy.

I wish O’Reilly would not say anything else about Adam. Someone suggested maybe O’Reilly needs ratings, but the thing is, he doesn’t, he’s doing fine in the ratings game.

I would LOVE IT if the big reveal in RS has nothing to do with Adam’s sexuality. That boy is so entertaining & has Perez & the other crazies in the media in a tizzy & I think Adam is loving it. Total equality means no one – regardless of who they sleep with or prefer to sleep with – is expected to make an announcement about their sexuality & no one should ever be hounded about it the way Adam has, especially by people like Perez who seem to feel Adam owes them something. I don’t think Adam is looking to become a spokesman for all gay people, I think he wants to focus on his music.

Finally, Adam looks super hot in those glasses. Can’t wait to see the whole thing.

Be more productive by letting Adam do his thing in his own way.

This is the point, for me. And, also the irony.

While I understand the sentiment and frustration expressed by some in the gay community, by expressing disapproval of Adam’s way, they undermine their own “cause” in my view. Taking a step back, I believe, folks would do well to see that all of these matters are smaller versions of the same big thing we all want — freedom to be who we are and live our lives as we deem and feel appropriate. Why must we project our own views of how we think things should be on every other person on the planet? (And don’t say, people who say this are doing the same thing — that’s a false equivalency if ever there was one. LOL)

Live and love, and let live and love….

  • lizland

Finally, almost all of Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ coverage is positive. Some of the Adam coverage is not positive.

I agree that Kris isn’t getting asked if he is gay. I guess that’s a positive? But his coverage isn’t positive. It’s not positive to be continually asked why you won when the other guy was better (basically the question he is posed). Or that you only won because AT&T cheated or Arkansas people are nutty power voters. This all hurts his brand and image as a star.

A few gay journalists are peeved at Adam. To the rest of the world, from a media perspective, he is the winner. More power to him, I didn’t care who won this year and hope they both do well.

I disagree. I think his good humored coyness can easily be read as someone who isn’t at all ashamed of who he is. Once this snowball started rolling, the speculation has probably gotten him more press than if he’d jumped up and down shouting, “I’m gay! I’m gay!” I don’t blame him for riding that wave. I mean, really, gay people in show business? How shocking! You have to wonder if his coyness cost him more votes than if he’d shouted from the rooftops. I think not being sure makes people more uncomfortable than knowing for sure.

Honestly, I think if he’d been stereotypically gay, it wouldn’t have been this big an issue. I find it interesting that they keep referring to him as androgynous, which is really what has people’s panties in a twist. He’s not effeminate, and he’s wearing polish and guyliner! Wait… some straight guys do that! Oh, what shall we do? He could be either… we must know! We must know!

All you have to do is watch him perform to see that Adam is not only comfortable but revels in his sexuality, which is one of the things that makes him so hot.

Through all this sexuality hoopla, I’m just trying to remember what Adam said in the Idolatry video, which was basically that he tries to keep a sense of humor about everything and not take any of it too seriously. I think he’s probably a lot less worked up it than we are and is approaching it all in a much more laidback way. I’m sure he sees and understands how ridiculous it is on so many levels and isn’t letting it get to him.

  • Vak33

It’s the common media practice. There’s only so long they can sell the positive stories, so now that they’ve built him up, they start to tear him down. It’s sad and pathetic, but it’s what Americans as a whole eat up. I hope Adam makes it through, he seems like a great kid.

I don’t think what Kara said was offensive she was just being honest and she helped Adam on the show with her advice so I don’t see the big deal at all…I also think its kind of sad who sex-obsessed mainstream society is. This should be about music and art but w/e..I will respect Adam no matter what his decision is pertaining to what he says or doesn’t say about his sexuality I don’t need to know who he is sleeping with. He is entitled to his privacy.

im a grad student in my late 20′s that has always put school before boys and i cannot tell you how many times my parents and other people in my family have asked if i was “sure im not gay”. especially after getting worked up about all this hoopla. because not being boy crazy and ALSO being a fervent supporter of gay rights clearly means im gay. i think i need to call RS and see if i can come out as straight so my family will leave me the eff alone.

  • AC

Okay, you know the only thing that was really wrong with this interview? Barbara Walters cutting off Kara when she was about to talk about Kris! Umm.. Adam being gay is obvious so let’s hear some real scoop!

  • Justin8602

All the gay writers out there that are pissed need to just mind their own business. If they want a poster boy for being gay, why not volunteer themselves, instead of trying to force others to do it. I consider myself part of the LGB community and I definitely don’t walk around screaming at people how gay I am. There is a difference to being out and proud and being out and obnoxious. The whole “gay movement” that seems to be taking over the media right now, is really not helping the true cause, which in my mind is equality. These people that are bashing Adam and the other celebs who are not vocally screaming out the fact that they are gay are doing a lot more harm than good. IMO they are screaming out that they think that they’re better than “straight” people and deserve preferential treatment. It’s supposed to be about equality all this is doing is segregating. Just my opinion, but in recent weeks what little respect I had for people like Perez Hilton is down to zero. I wish his 15 minutes of fame were up already.

Also, after watching Kara’s interview, I really don’t think she said anything wrong. She pretty much said what most people here have been saying about the non-issue of Adam’s sexuality. Seacrest on the other hand needs to stop fanning the flames. All he seems to be doing is provoking the controversy.

Seacrest fanning the flamesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦LMAO. Projecting much, Ryan?

LOL, I didn’t realize how that sounded until afterwards, lol. Why don’t Perez and the rest of the media start trying to make him publicly state his sexuality. Let’s see how seacrest likes it when the only thing people wanna talk about is who’s in your bed. Now I’m not a big Seacrest follower, so I don’t really know if he has ever publicly stated that he’s “straight”. I do think it’s odd though that in 8 years of him being in the spotlight, I’ve never really heard of him having a steady public relationship…with anyone, boy or girl…

  • http://myspace.com/susanatfox sumidol

“”"By being coy all season, and not being direct about his sexuality, when asked, can you read that as he was ashamed of his sexuality or squandered an opportunity to be a role model during the whole season or did Adam just feel being open would have killed his chances of winning.”"”

Coy all season? They dont really do any in depth interviewing until the season ends, a few seconds here and there where they are pretty much told what to say and do is all we really saw with any of them. He or Danny or any of them were not really allowed to take stands on anything during the season

“”LOL, I didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t realize how that sounded until afterwards, lol. Why donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t Perez and the rest of the media start trying to make him publicly state his sexuality. Perez is probably upset that Adam didnt run to him and profess his love for him and ask him out, that is probably what was behind Perez’s sticking up for Adam while on Idol, Perez has a big ole crush on ADam that wasnt reciprocated.

and in regards to your add about O’Reilly Mj, ratings are down and they all know who is a ratings “getter” Adam Lambert, Like Clay, O’Reilly is gonna ride on in on Adams coattails also, (sorry for the bad english)

I just knew there was a gag order in place.

And the way she said “until it comes out” tells me that there is indeed a Rolling Stone something happening.

Although it was a bit oddly worded:
“regarding Adam’s reported upcoming announcement to Rolling Stone that he is indeed gay.”

Oh, I imagine she got REEMED by the 19E bosses BIG TIME for it.

  • jj82

I completely see why Kara said what she did – she was simply stating things as she saw them.

The ridiculous thing about all this is that Adam was never in the closet in the first place. In fact he couldn’t have been more out.

Then VFTW found those pics, the media picked up on it and shoved him in the closet themselves because he didn’t say the three words “I AM GAY”, despite the fact that he’s still not hidden a single thing. Now they’re baying for blood and demanding he comes out again, without any hint of irony!

    ETA:
Snuffles said: Oh, I imagine she got REEMED by the 19E bosses BIG TIME for it.
Why would she? She didn’t really say much more than Simon did in an interview when the competition was still going on, where they talked about Adam’s sexuality not being a problem because he wasn’t hiding anything.

Seacrest has played the coy bit for all it is worth. Living in SoCal I have read many times people questioning his sexual orientation and he has danced around the question so well that he should be on Dancing with the Stars. I can remember not too long ago he went out to dinner with a female and TMZ was all over it just like when Adam did. LOL, no Seacrest like Queen Latifah, Jodi Forster, Lily Tomlin, etc. refuses to address the questions with a “yes” or “no” answer.

All this talk about his sexuality is ridiculous and redundant (the Press I mean, not here). It’s been obvious since day 1 if anyone cared to look. The good thing is that he’s being talked about. I’m sure he thinks it’s hilarious.

we could have a whole thread on ideas for the RS cover headline. maybe i’ll head over to TALC and start one :)

  • clearone

is it too much to ask RS to not do the whole YES, IM GAY as their à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“eye catchingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ headline on the cover? I mean, cmon, thats all I ask.

God if that’s on there I’ll throw up again. I never want to see that on any cover, of any magazine EVER AGAIN! Seeing it on People for Clay scarred me for life.

The ‘gay’ best not be the focus of this damn cover and interview. If it is I will be terribly disappointed because it’s NOT what Adam is about and will be doing him a huge disservice by stereotyping him. He is Adam, musician and singer. That is what should be the focus. I hate that the gay has anything to do with it to be honest. He should just be going on the way he is. He knows who he is, that is all that matters. If it focuses on his being gay, he is going to be labelled that ‘gay singer’ for the rest of his career.

BTW……..somebody get a sock for Kara’s mouth. I’m sorry she gets no sympathy from me. It was not her business to be chatting it up with Barbara and the girls.

Kris on the Idols having to lip-synch for many of the early group performances.
That whole lip-synch thing, we were so upset about it. They were like, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s hard to blend the 10 voicesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ or whatever. After a while, we complained enough and Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pretty good at taking a stand. Weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d be like, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Yeah, Adam! Go, Adam!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ He would always lead the pack. He was the first one to be bold and say something [to the producers].

LOL at that one! Somehow this doesn’t surprise me. I just keep thinking that the AI folks probably were surprised by Adam. I don’t think that they ever had anyone with ability to organize all the kids, to get the band, musicians, mentors and production crew to give his so much creative control, or who really didn’t want to win — just become a star. From USAToday’s Behind the scenes 5/12/09:

Gokey admits that being home makes him want to win for the hometown folks. “I did wonder, ‘Why do they want me?’ But I just want to give love back. I’m not here for the attention.”

“I am!” Lambert cuts in. The line cracks the others up, but he’s not joking.

“Look,” says Lambert, “I didn’t really come here to win as much as I came to get exposure and build my career. It’s about what the show gives us.”

    http://www.adam-lambert.com/USA-Todayand39s-Behind-the-and39Idoland39-Curtain-t1314.html

Adam seams to have built real working partnerships with people along the Idol season. In his post idol performances he’s been accompanied by Michael Orland (Pianist and Associate Musical Director for AI; Michael worked with Adam throughout the competition on his arrangements ranging from RoF to If I Can’t Have You.) and they clearly have a strong musically partnership.

It also gives me hope that Adam will control his album just like he built his Idol support team and got creative control of his AI production numbers.

  • maturin

There was an interesting entertainment story related to all this last year.

Pete Wentz is the Fall Out Boy guitarist who helped popularize the emo look that Adam adapts* (swoopy hair, guy liner, jewelry, girls jeans etc) and is also well-known for being married to a minor pop celebrity, Ashlee Simpson, and numerous indescretions involving his private parts and girls.

But in an interview with Out magazine about the fact that he’s something of a gay icon, he said “yeah, I’m a fag”–eg, his whole life people have called him a fag or queer for adopting styles and attitudes that deliberately upend what “boys” should be, and he in fact felt himself to be an outsider, weirdo, etc–so he decided to “own” the term. It’s not as if some guy in a bar who uses the f word really knows who Wentz–or Lambert–sleeps with. It’s the defiance of cultural rules and norms that enrages them

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“When Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going down the street I get called a fag all the time,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ he says. Instead of bothering to deny it, he shifts deftly to mocking the bulliesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Neanderthal mentality . . .He readily cops to having appropriated queer culture, just as early white rock and roll artists ripped off black music and went mainstream. . . .Like his friend Kanye West, heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s found that à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“whenever you say that homophobia is stupid, you just get called gay.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

So, that’s another part of the context Adam is operating in. He’s proudly out there doing the things people call queer . . . and neither hiding nor denying that style and self.

    * yes, there are many other aspects of Adam’s style . . .there’s just bits of it adapted from the scene kids look

  • GeminiDolly

Tony, you owe me new lunch. I just barfed it all up thankyouverymuch.

  • linsav

TKat, I believe everyone in the entertainment world now realizes that Adam is a force to be reckoned with. From his taking charge of all aspects of his performances on AI, to Queen praising him, to his ability to articulate so well, to his responses to the press and to Clay’s dis and to Gene Simmons’ roundabout dis/praise (it was both, just stupid to do it IMO).

He is a force that does it with a smile and a laugh and doesn’t throw temper tantrums. He has been fighting for himself for so long that it is ingrained in him to fight for anyone that is around him. He helped the other Idols and did it willingly. He is one of a kind and AI has never seen the likes of him.

I am really upset with all this gay/non-gay discussion. Why do you need to know that? Do you need to select among gay – bi – straight buttons in order to enjoy Adam ´s songs or videos?

This is just giving headlines and readers. If we stop reading this kid of articles, they will stop this nonsense.

Adam ´s international fans are busy talking about his talent, his interviews, his upcoming tour and his imminent future as an international idol.

We don ´t care, and don ´t want him to talk about his privacy. It is HIS!

Why don ´t you all write here your real names and addresses and explain what your sexual preferences are and have been, with details? Would you like to be asked what your sexual preferences are in order to get a job?

I have not been reading anything related to the topic. Came here to see the Best Week Ever video, to find that the stupid topic is still on.

What a drag. Good bye. Back to all the Adam ´s fans sites.

On his frustration with Christians who wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t accept Adam Lambert.

Kris sounds just as frustrated as I am about this whole subject of Adam having to address his sexuality and being accepted in society. Actually I am getting really pissed off about the whole media thing. Like Adam told Slezak “is it REALLY that big of a deal?”

Interesting that his mom in the eonline article upthread seems to suggest that AI/19 Management is dictating what can be said about one’s personal life which is why Adam has to be coy.

I’m loving how Adam is dealing with the media right now, and the RS article will be just an extension of his professionalism and honesty. Hopefully, he’ll still be able to keep his sense of humor about the absurdness of this whole subject and make all that doubt him, will love him again.

  • abbysee

First off I’ve had almost nothing good to say about Kara since the regular season started, but I am gonna totally give her a pass on this one. She didn’t do anything wrong, she certainly didn’t out him. You can’t out someone who has been living an openly gay lifestyle for his entire adult life. Some people have the freedom to never have to come out. The fact that many gay media peeps are forcing this onto him is a disservice to the community at large. Now you can’t just walk the walk? You have to talk the talk? Talk about backasswardness!

People in closets don’t make inferences to being a friend of Dorothy, or pink elephants. They don’t kiss men, and then smile when asked about it, and say that idol isn’t a kissing competition (hell he might actually win that one). If you are in the closet you don’t tell a female reporter that she is making you bi-curious. I guess what they all want is for him to whip out his penis, bend some dude over, and have at him? That he has to proclaim anything is ridiculous.

I understand that the community wants him to start waving a flag, but guess what? That is exactly what he’s been doing. He’s been telling kids that it’s okay to be different. Why he has to define his difference is sad. It will just alienate the kid that took it to heart, but isn’t gay. So it’s good to be this kind of person, but not that one? I am sick of labels.

I also know that AI has been down this road before. Of course we’ve had gay men on the show before. In season 1 all the guys were gay in the top 10 but Justin Guarini. RJ Helton, AJ Gill, EJay Day, and Jim Veraros were all gay, if I remember correctly. Idol wasn’t the big deal it is now, and I am sure Jim has said he was asked not to admit it.

Of course there is the Clay connection. Certainly there is so much different now. Clay was in the closet. Part of American knew he was gay on idol, but if you believe what he says now, his family did not know! Even when rumors and pictures surfaced he lied repeatedly. He wasn’t smart or clever enough to finesse it like Adam has. So he just pissed everyone off, because it seemed that he was a self loathing gay. Also it seemed as a manipulation of his fans. So he finally comes out 5 years later, after lying to the same magazine Adam is allegedly going to ‘come out’ to, there will be parallels drawn. Those parallels are really not so apparent to me.

I hope that whatever Adam says in the interview, that it will be the end of it for him, and that he won’t have to say anything, but continue to live his life by example. I hope that he does another thing that Clay couldn’t do, let the music be good, and speak for itself.

If you are in the closet you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t tell a female reporter that she is making you bi-curious.

Seriously, his actions have pretty much shown his sexuality, so to have so much press around him saying a couple words is so weird.

(By the way, I like his playing with the media on this one. Adam’s fun.)

On a slightly different note, with the amount of press Adam gets I think he should release a revamped “Pop Goes the Camera” as his new single. It would be fitting.

Hee.
I guess heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going to lecture Adam and tell him that he should have been embarassed about the picturesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. This is edging on the verge of ridiculous here.

That wouldn’t surprise me at all! Adam has been totally “unexpected” throughout his Idol journey, so I just don’t see him simply giving in to the madness that is the “is he or isn’t he” question, without at least giving it some sort of twist. …I am still at a complete loss as to why anyone would think he’s straight, and why it matters even one iota, either way. I couldn’t care less, although I think my alter ego in Fantasyland prefers to believe that the *only* person he’s attracted to is her. (sheesh what a geek I am) ROFL!!

I’m secretly hoping that IF he ever answers the stupid question, it’s something along the lines of “Well actually folks, I’m not technically human – I know I said I was born in Indianapolis, but really I’m originally from the planet Erotopia, where my kind are pansexual – we’re attracted to *everyone*; gender is irrelevant. Satisfied? Mmmkay. Soooo, about my music…”

maturin, interesting point. I wouldn’t give Pete Wentz too much credit for the Emo look. He was only 5 years old when Emo first emerged.

Emo came out of the hardcore punk scene of early-1980s in the Philadephia-to-Washington, D.C. area. I recall seeing Emo style punk bands as early as 1984 in Philadelphia, Baltimore and DC clubs. (Many people credit Emo to DC but I am not certain that anyone really knows where it started. My guess is Baltimore deserves the credit.) It really was a regional music-political-art movement that slowly spread across the US, Asia and Europe. The whole underground music scene become big business until the 1991 success of Nirvana’s Nevermind (I am not saying Nirvana is Emo) and that increased the interest in other forms of alternative music. Even with the increased interest, Emo music and fashion didn’t really hit mainstream US media until after 9/11.

Emo’s roots came from a number of sources — the Baltimore art and film scene (John Waters), underground comics, British-American New Wave and Punk bands (Talking Heads, Sex Pistols), political response to the Regan administration and resurgence of American Conservativism, on so on. Some people even trace Emo haircuts back to those worn by the Romulans and Vulcans in Star Trek. Quite simply, no one really can unscramble the whole thing. I personally believe much of what we currently call Emo style evolved in Japanese and California video/online game studios.

In any case, as you noted, only parts of Adam’s look are Emo — I think there’s a lot of West LA in his look and sophistication that just isn’t Emo. And that his integration of designer clothing and gay fashion sensibility with Emo works really well.

    1. On Kara:
She said exactly what I would have said. I mean, if you need it spelled out for you, you must live in a terrarium with a ceramic turtle. And, since when the hell does anyone–gay, straight or otherwise–have the right to even ask someone–gay, straight, or otherwise– about their sexuality, much less demand that they proclaim it to the world? Yeah, that’s the first thing I ask people I meet–”so which way do you swing anyway?” Its nobody’s friggin buisness to begin with & violates basic etiquette rules, i.e.–just plain rude.

    2. On Adam’s Best Week Ever:
Best part? The end when they’re just sitting there & then Adam looks over at the other guy and back again…I actually did lol.
Last year Cook’s was hilarious–can’t wait to see rest of this one.

    3. The alleged RS article:
Why even speculate? Buy the mag when it comes out–and read it.

    4. I want more Kradam interviews; they bring out the best in each other and are cuter than Adam’s butt. Also: I want them to record that last Ford vid song and make it available on iTunes. They sound amazing together. (I keep saying this everywhere I post–you know, the old squeaky wheel theory.)

It also gives me hope that Adam will control his album just like he built his Idol support team and got creative control of his AI production numbers.

If I were one of the key people in charge of handling Adam’s career, including anything he does, I would give him total control and just advise if I felt the need. He has already proven that he has the knowledge, initiative, desire, whatever it takes to do the right things for his career. He could probably be the lone person to push himself to the top…….if that were humanly possible.

I too think Adam being Adam will “come out” in his unique way. This whole thing with the (mostly) gay press is ridiculous. Even if he admits he’s gay that does not mean that at one time he has not had sex with women, and may in the future if the attraction is there. It is his life and he obviously prefers men, so what. A good friend of mine pronounced she was a lesbian from early teens on, marched, did the whole rainbow thing, was so out that it lost her some friends. But, 25 years down the road, she met this guy, fell in love and is happy as a clam with her hubby. Anne Heche had one gay relationship, so did Julie Cypher (Melissa Ethridge) and both have since remarried men.

You never know whom you are going to be attracted to! All that matters is that a person is happy in their relationship.

Jann Wenner had a very ugly and very public coming out, back in the day. Even though his ex-wife still works at Rolling Stone, there was a time when he was getting horrendous daily coverage in NY’s tabloids. I wonder if that influenced TPTB’s decision to use Rolling Stone for this article/discussion. Maybe they thought it would be presented more sympathetically?

I don’t have any problem with what Kara said. She knows Adam, the fans don’t, and I’m pretty sure she had a good idea of what he’d be ok with her saying. He’s not hiding his sexuality, he’s just not confirming it, likely until the RS article appears.

The brouhaha I’ve seen online over her comments reminds me of the mommy police Clay had whenever something was said his fans didn’t like. Adam is a man, he doesn’t need defending by his fans.

Playing devil’s advocate here, but how does Neil know that a member of the media won’t log in and ask those questions. Ethically, the mainstream media should identify themselves, but if Neil has answered questions from other people, how does he back track and state “that answer isn’t for you to use?” I do find it odd that the media hasn’t picked up on his blog and aren’t quoting it.

ETA- this also makes me think the face page thinging floating around here is probably fake because of the gag order.

Interesting that his mom in the eonline article upthread seems to suggest that AI/19 Management is dictating what can be said about oneà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s personal life which is why Adam has to be coy.

So nobody else thinks that 19 has orchestrated this whole thing?
From the gag order in the beginning clear through to overseeing and approval rights to the Rolling Stone article and cover?

Adam’s part is to keep mum/”coy” until the proper amount of time has passed since the finale, and three weeks sounds about long enough?
Well after the finale but well before the tour kicks off.

This whole thing could have been put into play weeks ago.

  • clearone

So nobody else thinks that 19 has orchestrated this whole thing?

I do. I think if Adam could have talked, he would have said more than ‘I am who I am’ that night on the Top 13 carpet and this would all be a mute point right now. That wouldn’t have been dramatic enough or gained enough attention for AI.

  • undercooked

So nobody else thinks that 19 has orchestrated this whole thing?

Question for the masses…..do you think RS would have considered giving Adam the cover if the gay issue wasn’t a factor?

  • lola

Yes, I believe that the RS article is with the consent of 19E since he is now under contract with them. I’m still positive that despite this unending Adam gay bashing by the media, something good will come out of it….in the form of social awareness or acceptance of what’s really happening in the society. We just cannot ignore a minority section of the population. They are also human beings.

For sure 19E will try to make money out of this by having Adam record a song with a strong message that will address these issues.

  • undercooked

Question for the massesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..do you think RS would have considered giving Adam the cover if the gay issue wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t a factor?

I don’t know. That is a good question. He did generate alot of buzz for his talent. He got Slash and Queen looking at him. He is the most youtubed guy on AI. He has a huge following. Who else out there on the charts has a voice like Adam’s? Also, he’s been on the cover of EW, had a huge spread in the New York Times, and the LA times has been heavily covering him. So even without an exclusive, I can still see them putting Adam on the cover because he sells.

  • RemusL

For those who ask, the media cannot refer to him as gay until he refers to himself that way. So they dance around the topic and endlessly ask the question. Once he answers it definitively, the story will no longer center around the possibility that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay, it will discuss the reality that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay. But the story will still be that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gay.

weareallinnocent, not all the media, nor even all the gay media for that matter. Adam’s been a staple on AfterElton.com’s Gay of the Week (7-time winner) and is ranked 16th on their latest Hot 100 list and labeled as being “out”.

  • Tess

Question for the massesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..do you think RS would have considered giving Adam the cover if the gay issue wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t a factor?

I think it is something that will never be answered and my opinion really doesn’t count for squat. From most of what I’ve read by everyday people on this blog if they support Adam it is because they love his singing and his style and his wit and his intelligence. I really don’t think I have ever read the words: I support Adam because he is obviously gay. Therefore, my self-centered little theory is that the gay issue hasn’t made Adam popular and he would have still been an internet darling if he was OTT, flamboyant, and straight.

But, he is what he is and the situation is what it is and the media has their own agenda so, for me it is just fruitless to speculate if, without the social issues, Adam would have so much hype.

Reaching way back in the thread: I loved your back story on the history of emo style!!! I think it’s super cool that Adam pulls together elements of a bunch of different alternative and subcultural styles, from the long ago 70s glam of the Bowie/Pfunk era to kid subcultures of the 80s and 90s and 00s. I was horrified when some commentator misidentified him as “goth” though! Nooo! Wrong mall, wrong style! :vampire_ee:

But, I was (somewhat too crudely) trying to think about the way dude fits into a youth culture where a lot of kids already challenge the gender/sexuality boxes developed by us older folks. While the whole thing of “admit you’re gay” is played by both the right and left of the existing culture, the right as an accusation, the left as an affiliation (if you’re not claiming it, you’re not “proud”) . . . you have these younger boys who are saying, hmm me getting called the f-word has to do with how people see me, not who I sleep with, so I see the term “fag” as something much more malleable.

    I just find that interesting.

  • hwc

Let’s not forget the fact that the very first question asked of Lambert in the press conference immediately following his defeat on Idol was not about the competition, but was asking him if he wanted to confirm that he was gay. The media deserves to get jerked around.

I always thought it did so I’m probably not the best to answer the question……but I will say I do think Kris believes that it did considering some of his comments about the Christian vote and his nodding his head in agreement when Ryan questioned Adam last Friday.

Kris is the bomb. I hope that if, and when (it still hasn’t been said by Adam) Adam states he is gay, that he and Kris can do a serious sit down interview with a reputable journalist. Kris has said he could on and on about their relationship. I sure would love to hear about their journey and how they reached the level of love and understanding they have for each other.

Finally, almost all of Krisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ coverage is positive. Some of the Adam coverage is not positive. How about the fact that Adam’s favorite books are the Twilight series? (Although he said he read them all in one month and is looking for something new to read.) And the costume/staging for Mad World in the Final did remind me of Edward Cullen from Twilight. And Adam and Randy even both said Twilight in response to Simon’s “Phantom of the Oprea” comment.

And I think the difference is that some of us “older folks” had to challenge the gender/sexuality boxes, and many kids I know don’t even see the boxes. I know that my 19 year old son and his friends are well past most of that.

RemusL – thanks for posting the link to AfterElton.comà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Gay of the Week. Fun site and this great quotes was in one of the articles:

“Heterosexuality is not normal, it’s just common.” (Dorothy Parker)

Somehow seemed appropriate for this thread about the totally uncommon Adam.

I, for one, happen to think that the Mad World 2 performance happened to fit in the the lyrics and it set a tone that I appreciated. And I wear a coat just like the one Adam wore and it is no costume and I happen to hate anything Twilight (now Moonlight I appreciate).

I gotta concur with the posters who mention that Adam obviously comes from a very smart family. Brother Neil’s blog shows talent as a writer. Mom is totally cool, I would love to hang out with someone like her; did you see her singing along to the KISS song? I read some kinda out there stuff written by his dad. Adam is not the only one in the family who likes to push the envelope, its in the DNA. I’m sure AI didn’t quite know what to do with him, but the idea of making a grown man’s mom sign a contract to keep quiet about her son’s personal life is a little ludicrous. Even so, without AI we wouldn’t know about Adam and he’d still be an understudy in Wicked. So in the long run its all good.

Hmmm…let me think. Adam’s press, or Kris’?? I have scrolled past that video of Kris singing with Minnie Mouse all day, and sorry, I just can’t look at it. Not all that exciting for me anyway.

and in regards to your add about Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly Mj, ratings are down and they all know who is a ratings à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“getterà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Adam Lambert, Like Clay, Oà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Reilly is gonna ride on in on Adams coattails also, (sorry for the bad english)

O’Reilly is the number one cable news show in his time slot. His ratings are huge. There are times that his repeat shows beat new shows on CNN, MSNBC and CNBC combined. His books are huge hits. The man does not need the ratings or more money. Have no idea why he decided to talk about Adam. He does like to provoke thinking though. He knows full well that the 2 ladies on the panel with him that night were republicans, but very socially liberal ones. Margaret Hoover has stated several times before during their segments that she is not anti gay. He usually has on Megan Kelly or Monica Crowley too. I don’t think either of them are anti gay. I don’t know which one of the two were on with him during the Adam segment because I didn’t see it. But all three of them are socially open- minded. I’m so happy to see that the younger republicans are more socially liberal. Included too would be John McCain’s daughter. A change is indeed happening and I hope it continues.

Argh, it must be terrible to seat on that couch with a matching dress and have to answer the questions coming from 5 women talking at the same time and putting all the pressure on you, I cannot blame Kara, she tried to be as diplomatic as possible.

Adam is so unique and it bothers me that some people imply his being gay has something to do with his presentation. They should just relax and enjoy the talent presented to them.

O’Reilly is a feeder and will do almost anything for ratings. I wouldn’t be surprised if ‘his’ people have contacted 19 to see if Adam will appear on the show.

I hope Adam has a very successful career and being gay becomes insignificant.

I am sure all of us here agree with you, Grammie Kari. I am a grandmother and I hope in my young grandson’s life that gays do not have to grow up with all the pressures bestowed on Adam.

Perhaps Adam will be the Rosa Parks of this generation.

Sorry if my humor got in the way of your political correctness.

LOL, MJ…..I better just bite my tongue and say………”Well said!”

O’Reilly has never watched Idol so he relied on his staff to feed him the information regarding the controversy surrounding Adam. It didn’t look like his heart was really in it, he really didn’t care one way or the other, it was just a filler for his show. Cable news has way too much time to fill and commentators often comment on things they really don’t know anything about. I hear it on talk radio too, lots of inaccurate information that goes unchallenged whereas in the (dying) newspaper industry retractions are made.

Personally, I find his toying with the journos, who keep asking him about it ad nauseum, both hilarious and entertaining.

I also find it hilarious. Adam does seem to enjoy watching people squirm.

You really think that wasn’t planned? 19E is getting ready for this. If she outs him first, his headlines aren’t as big when he outs himself. They want him to come out (as if he isn’t already anyway) in a much more subdued no-big-deal way. If the announcement is an after-thought as opposed to a late breakeing story, then the backlash is minimized. And, like she said, most of us already figured it out anyway. The part that’s annoying is that anyone still cares.
