Kara Dioguardi has not Heard from Idol Producers

Watch Joe Dioguardi tell the New York cable show, Capital Tonight earlier today that his daughter Kara Dioguardi learned about her so-called firing the same way we did–on the internet.

In fact, Kara has not heard from Idol brass at all, even as rumors swirl about Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler joining Randy Jackson on a reconfigured judges panel.

Needless to say, according to Papa Joe, Kara would love to do another year on Idol, but is very disappointed in the way she’s being treated.

Nigel Lythgoe, returning to Idol as executive producer for Season 1o, has said to the press that with Simon Cowell off the panel, he’d like to reconfigure it from scratch, preferably with only 3 judges.

Well, I’m no fan of Kara’s, but that’s shitty treatment. Obviously, they don’t expect to have her back, and don’t give a flying frak how she feels about it. It would serve them right if they got stuck with an even needier, more insecure Kara on their panel after JLo and Tyler fall through — except that then the rest of us would have to suffer through another season watching her.

    Eh–the bi&&h deserves it….

  • seriously

Bull. Kara has done nothing to deserve being treated like that. If somebody treated me like that I’d quit.

  • spirit62

JMHO,NOBODY, deserves to be treated by an employer the way Kara has, she deserved for them to sit down with her first before releasing any information to the media, that is common curtesy.

  • bridgette12

I thought they treated Paula crappy, so it’s no surprise they aren’t caring a damn about Kara.

  • sagi

Honestly, it is a business, and on the survey they did I think it became clear that Kara was not at all embraced by a large percent of their viewing audience. But I agree, they could have and should have handled it professionally and compassionately. They should have discussed their plans in full with her before any of the news had a chance to leak. I don’t like Kara as a judge on idol, for many various reasons, but as a person I would not like her to be treated in anyway I wouldn’t like to be treated.

  • Marie Ruffin

Wow! I don’t think very highly of the Idol producers after this….and good for Kara, she’s got her own career she doesn’t need them. And yep, they treated Paula kind of shitty, so why not her? Why would Paula want to come back to Idol?..come on! Do they do the same to the men?

  • ilovekrisallen39

that’s so not cool,i wasn’t a big fan of her’s but she deservers better then that.that seems so tacky.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Pretty shoddy treatment. I didn’t like Kara as a judge, but the way that the producers have treated her reflects very badly on them.

  • zzatrms

Whether you like Kara or not has nothing to do with this. No one should have to read on the internet that they have been fired. This is just another example of how the producers failed this season.

  • Ratna12

    Is she really fired ?
I’m not a fan of Kara even though sometimes her comments were good, but I really really hate
the way the idol producer treat people. No wonder the producer treats non favorite idols badly. They are just heartless, and they really don’t have to be that way. I don’t understand it.

  • Incipit

If somebody treated me like that I’d quit.

Seriously, maybe that’s the idea. Then they don’t have to actually, literally fire her…just let the gossip bloggers do their dirty work, as usual, from the little hints and quotes from ‘Unattributed Sources’ they plant. And then act disappointed that Kara felt the ‘need’ to leave, couldn’t work in such an atmosphere, etc. etc. ….which gives her an exit – even if it’s not a graceful one. TPTB don’t care, if they get what they want, IMO.

But she doesn’t actually ‘need’ Idol – as her father pointed out. It could be time to go – for several reasons of her own. That little interview has the groundwork all laid out for her position, I think.

Also. There are plenty of anecdotal reports over the years, of TV shows being canceled and the cast finding out when they showed up and their parking place was reassigned – or they read it in the entertainment columns, or were called by a reporter – it’s not a ‘Kinder, Gentler’ business. It’s just business, nothing personal…as they say.

IDK – wasn’t there a time when contestants posing nude was verboten on this “Family Show” – and now it’s OK for a judge to do it – because it’s “artistic”? Maybe not so OK. I think Kara made a lot of missteps that added up – some she could have avoided, some she couldn’t – not the least of which was having an unappealing public persona that became more and more evident. So Idol is cutting their losses.

    Just a thought, ya know?

  • Niall

This is a totally unprofessional move by the producers. Whether or not she was embraced by the audience, whether or not they wanted to get rid of her, there was a right way to do it that didn’t involve “firing via internet rumor.”

  • larc

    Is she really fired ?

I heard that Kara’s contract was up for renewal. AI obviously hasn’t made any moves to renew it, so I guess that’s one way of firing somebody.

Still, that’s shoddily unprofessional treatment of Kara. They owe her honesty in their dealings. This says more about the real caliber of TPTB at Idol than it does about Kara.

  • seriously

Seriously, maybe that’s the idea. Then they don’t have to actually, literally fire her…

Hmm. You could be right. Geez, that’s cruel.

  • Tony

    LMAO.

    Not cool, but lol.

  • Incipit

    Geez, that’s cruel.

Aww. To us, perhaps. Our idea of professionalism doesn’t really march with anything the Judges or the Producers have ever done on that show, if you recall instances. They treat the contestants no better, ya know. It’s pretty much SOP.

My oldest is in the entertainment business, a slightly different branch, in LA. In an odd coinkydink – his company actually hired Kara to sing some background for a franchised video game they were making back in 2005 or so. IDK if she wound up on the finished product.

The stories he has told about this ‘nothing personal’ business means I have a well developed Skeptic Bone, and that nothing surprises me.

  • CRB

Awww, poor Kara! I feel so bad for her!

And I’m so kidding. She was a terrible judge.

  • abbysee

I thought they treated Paula crappy, so it’s no surprise they aren’t caring a damn about Kara.

    Ditto.

I don’t give a crap about Kara, but come on now. The intern can draft a C U BYE letter right? Tacky, tacky, tacky. She was a terrible judge though, which is said because she had great insight, but crappy judgement, lol.

  • oceana

There seems to be a pattern here – treating the women judges worse than the male judges perhaps? But when it comes to Tara, right now I’m not 100% sympathetic. And we’re only hearing one side of the story. I did feel bad for Paula last year though. They were seriously underpaying her, it was insulting.

  • Dlynne

Ouch! I’m not invested in her as a judge but she shouldn’t be treated this way.

I agree that they’re trying to get her to quit.

  • BootStar

    Poor Kara. Karma sucks, Sweetie!

  • Kirsten

Maybe the Idol producers did try to explain it to her….but:

“I don’t think [s]he even understands, maybe, what we’re saying.”

    Meow.

She had a one year contract. News to Kara: If nobody phones you to renew the contract, you should probably look for another job.

Would it have been nice if they’d explained it to her in so many words? Yes. But when has 19Alphabet ever worried about the niceties of life? She played her part in it for 2 years so she knows the ropes.

  • Grammie Kari

No wonder the producer treats non favorite idols badly. They are just heartless, and they really don’t have to be that way. I don’t understand it.

I don’t understand it either. Kara had the resume and the potential to be a good judge. Unfortunately, that never came to be. Regardless, she should have been told why her contract was not renewed.

The way they treated Paula and Taylor Hicks proved the ethics involved are shabby.

  • koshka

    Poor Kara. Karma sucks, Sweetie!

Not to be completely cruel, but that about sums it up.

The way they treated Paula and Taylor Hicks proved the ethics involved are shabby.

I wasn’t around for Taylor HIcks.. how was he treated so badly, other than being let go from his contract (which to me is a business decision)? They’ve treated the judges poorly, but once the contestants leave the show, the producers have nothing to do with them unless they return to sing – which in many cases they’ve acted like a-holes more than a few times.

  • LaRue

She had a one year contract. News to Kara: If nobody phones you to renew the contract, you should probably look for another job.

That’s the story in a nutshell. Kara was given two one-year contracts. She must have known that TPTB saw her has expendable, because at no point did they offer her a multi-year deal (AFAIK).

While someone should have had the courtesy to call Kara, it’s not like she’s all that sweet with her patronizing, condescending, I’ll talk to you like you’re ‘special’ stance with a number of contestants. Karma bites us all at some point. It’s Kara’s turn to lick her wounds and move on.

  • koshka

OMG do you guys remember the infamous scene (auditions/or hollywood IDK) where she’s practically sitting on that girls lap telling her how she hasn’t made it for the umpteenth time? OGM cringe worthy.

ETA: OMG I found it. Starts around the 3 min mark.

Regardless of how I feel about Kara as a judge or her personality, this is just a crappy way to treat anybody. There is no evidence that Kara ever did anything wrong towards her employers. In fact, it appears she toed the party line pretty well.

It bothered me that the internet entertainment bloggers were reporting she had been ‘fired’ and all seemed to just be repeating and adding on to a rumor. First and foremost, you cannot be fired from a job you do not have. She had a year to year contract.

One thing I don’t understand is why Kara or her management didn’t make a call to the producers and ask if they would be re-upping. Maybe they did and got a vague response. I think I would want to know how I should schedule projects or block out my time.

I have even less respect for the American Idol producers because of this.

  • agathe.hb

ain’t karma a bitch….. the way Kara treated some of the contestants? it was atrocious, I will never forgive her for the way she treated Casey……
but having said that, they should have called her….

  • BootStar

I will never forgive her for the way she treated Casey……
but having said that, they should have called her….

How about the way she treated Tim, like he was some kind of dim-witted special ed student?

Luckily for her, Tim and Casey are good Christian boys whose mamas raised them properly. If they’re snickering about Kara’s fate, I’m sure they’re at least ashamed of themselves and will repent for their pettiness later.

Sorry, no pity from me for Kara. You reap what you sow, and she sowed a lot of sh*t towards contestants she wielded power over, both as a judge on the show and as its hired goon on the talk show circuit. Who can forget her pathetic, self-serving appearance on Leno?

Papa Joe’s timing makes this look like another ploy by TBTB to keep the buzz going. JLo-Tyler-Kara, next week who knows. Whatever, it got our attention which was the whole point, plus Kara gets a sympathy pass because TBTB appear to be giving her the Paula treatment. In the end, Kara gets a new contract plus (if she wants it) a shot at making people forget what an obnoxious fame wh*re she was last season.
