Kanye West issued an apology to Taylor Swift for interrupting her acceptance speech Sunday night at the MTV VMA Awards:

I feel like Ben Stiller in “Meet the Parents” when he messed up everything and Robert De Niro asked him to leave…      That was Taylor’s moment and I had no right in any way to take it from her.  I am truly sorry.

After the incident Sunday night, Kanye posted a slightly deranged, all caps apology that was gone from the site by Monday morning:

“I’M SOOOOO SORRY TO TAYLOR SWIFT AND HER FANS AND HER MOM. I SPOKE TO HER MOTHER RIGHT AFTER AND SHE SAID THE SAME THING MY MOTHER WOULD’VE SAID. SHE IS VERY TALENTED!”

“BEYONCE’S VIDEO WAS THE BEST OF THIS DECADE!!!! … EVERYBODY WANNA BOOOOO ME BUT I’M A FAN OF REAL POP CULTURE!!! NO DISRESPECT BUT WE WATCHIN’ THE SHOW AT THE CRIB RIGHT NOW CAUSE … WELL YOU KNOW!!!! I’M STILL HAPPY FOR TAYLOR!!!! “

Kanye is set to appear on the premiere episode of Jay Leno’s 10 pm talk show on NBC tonight. Leno must be thanking the talk show Gods for his good fortune. Unfortunately, it’s reported Kanye will be singing only.   Drat.

I think in comparison to Chris Brown beating Rihanna, celebs were more apprehensive to give their comments on that because they didn’t know all the details. And it was something so personal between boyfriend and girlfriend and it’s hard to involve yourself in that kind of domestic drama when you don’t even know the root cause of it all.

There of course is more celeb outrage with this because it happened in a live awards show, and it was all out in the open…black and white- in the big stage, Kanye was a douche to a teenage girl who was having a moment winning her first VMA. It’s easier to go “Oh fuck you Kanye”over that than make a comment about Chris Brown and Rihanna when the details about that were so sketchy.

I’m not talking about the celeb response, although that was different too. I’m talking about the response from regular people. An informal poll of 200 young people in Boston found that more than 1/2 of them thought Rihanna was responsible for Chris beating her. And then if you looked at the comments on pop culture articles, there would be a TON of people, mostly women, defending Chris. But if you look at the articles for this incident– 99% critical of Kanye. The difference is a pretty huge one.

I think it’s interesting. No hard and final conclusions or accusations here, just… interesting.

Perhaps Kanye and Rep. Joe Wilson of South Carolina ‘” the guy who called Obama a liar in the middle of Obama’s speech to the joint session of Congress ‘” were separated at birth?

Ooh, I hope Obama didn’t. Kanye is a big Obama supporter, isn’t he? That would be sad for him.

What was sketchy about the bruises on her face? And his subsequent guilty plea where he probably struck a deal?

When you act like a jackass, you get called one. LOL. He’ll get over it. But good point in your earlier post about race or reputation. I don’t have an answer for that.

People didn’t know the exact details of what happened that night, and as I said, it’s personal domestic drama between boyfriend and girlfriend, it’s hard to involve yourself when you’re a celebrity into something personal that just happened to happen between two famous people. The pics of Rihanna also didn’t get released right away, by then I’m guessing most celebs had been advised to not comment about it. Unlike this VMA event that was all it happened this one minute and then the next minute every celeb was tweeting about it because what happened was crystal clear unlike with Chris-Rihanna when it first broke out, all the details were fuzzy.

Kanye’s tirade was in a public event recorded live, everyone knew exactly what went down. It’s easy to make a comment about that and not put yourself in an uncomfortable position afterwards in case you may have been misinformed.

Also, I think since Chris’ case was sort of a criminal case, they know it was going to court so they just let the courts decide. Like with T.I.’s illegal weapon charges, I don’t think lots of celebs commented about that either. With Kanye, it’s like, no one else is going to reprimand him for this but us… so I guess that’s why there is more outburst also.

It’s pretty clear to me that Kanye realizes that he needs a time out to get himself back together. If you check out the Leno interview, you can tell he’s being sincere. He realizes he’s gotten off track some how. Celebrity can really mess a person up. Especially in this culture today. It’s bubble living and can lead to all kinds of crazy behavior.

  • soccerboi

He may be truly sorry for his actions but it truly does not excuse them. he will do something like this again, it is inevitable. He thinks he is as big as Elvis, remember? AND it was totally appropriate for Jay to bring up what his mother would think…it might have been the only way to shame him into humility. If the crowd and public had not turned on him in the overwhelming way they did, he would continue with this type of behavior.
Once an A$$ always an A$$.

Well, this is all very interesting. People seem more passionate about Kanye West’s little tantrum than they did about Chris Brown’s actions. Where was all the celeb outrage then? Shortly after the incident, CB was out partying with Ashton Kutcher. Just saying.

Exactly. He got on stage (again, at the VMAs, we’re talking the Oscars here) and was a dick. Big deal. Its not like he beat up his girlfriend, heh.
