Justin Timberlake – Suit & Tie – First Listen! (AUDIO)

It’s been a long wait for fans, but Justin Timberlake, FINALLY has some new music out! Check out “Suit & Tie” featuring Jay-Z below. It’s the former N’Sync member’s first single in six years.

As Justin explains in an open letter to his fans, the tune is the first single from his upcoming album, which he began working on quietly in June of last year, called The 20/20 Experience.

Listen to “Suit & Tie” below. I was beginning to think JT had totally given up music for his blossoming acting career.

    very good song…
    welcome back JT

  • lovesickheroine

Darn. the video isn’t available anymore :(

  • supersonic

    It’s terrible.

The song sounds like a Robin Thicke song only Robin would have sung it better.

  • hellomusicgirl

I’m uncertain how I feel about the song yet. I need to listen a bit more to make a final decision. I’ve seen a lot of people on twitter talking about how it sounds like Robin Thicke though lololol. That’s some Inception crap right there because Robin came along copping JT’s sound after it broke so the fact that now JT is coming back only to have people say he sounds like Robin? EL TO THE OH TO THE EL. Messes with your head, don’t it?

    Meh…

  • YankeeFan08

I have to hear it more.  It’s not what I was expecting.  I don’t really know what I was expecting it to sound like, but that’s not it.  Maybe it needs a radio edit.  No matter, it will be a smash hit for him.

  • kmd23

I couldn’t get the video here so I listened on his website:http://countdown.justintimberlake.com/     I think it will be a smash hit. This Justin can actually sing unlike the other Justin (Bieber)

  • http://www.facebook.com/jenny.williams.391 Jenny Williams

the other Justin CAN sing. Check out the acoustic versions of his songs on youtube. I was highly impressed with the warmth in his vocals and his general understanding of music.

I actually heard our radio station’s premiere of this, on my morning commute. I’m not sure. I do applaud JT for a new direction, but to quote my morning DJs…this sounds like an unreleased album track from the BeeGees circa 1978. I’m all for re-inventing old school, but this was a pretty faithful replica of 70s sound, just with a Jay-Z interlude thrown in. Kind of disjointed.

I’m underwhelmed at the moment. Sexyback, it ain’t.  I probably need to hear it a few more times, in the right enviroment.

But lol at our DJs. They flat out called it terrible and then said that they’d better get used to it, though, becuase it will be a hit anyway as they’ll be playing it every hour.

I don’t think it is terrible at all. It’s just not a lead single material. I thought it was weird when I first heard it myself, but I’ve grown to really like. And I’ve become defensive about it because it is a very R&B jam tune, and doesn’t fit in to what’s popular on radio. But it’s a straight up Robin Thicke rip-off.

  • Aavari

    I don’t think it’s terrible.  Just…it didn’t grab me the way I’d hoped. I admit
I don’t listen to much current R&B, so possibly what sounds really dated to
me might actually be fresh, lol. I’m disappointed that it’s not (yet) to my
taste, but I probably need some time for it to grow on me.

  • Chicagolaw

    Really disappointed :(

The DJs on my radio station this morning didn’t like it either, but they basically dismissed it as an “introduction” and said it’s the second single that will blow people away.

  • Mateja Praznik

This sounds really dated and is just forgettable.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Yeah, I think everyone was expecting something bigger.

  • SullyD

I hope the next single is better. I really miss JT :(

  • standtotheright

Bill Werde at Billboard is convinced it’s a “grower.” Of course, he’s an equal-opportunity cheerleader.

I’ll give it a few more listens. My local CHR station is too dire for me to listen enough to be annoyed by it if it doesn’t grow on me.

  • Chicagolaw

It probably is a grower, almost every song, IMO, can grow on you. That’s the power of radio. I don’t know how many times I have started out just hating a song ( and I don’t hate this song, just kinda surprised and underwhelmed) and end up–almost against my will–learning to like it.

  • Incipit

This is too funny. What I know about Justin Timberlake is Zero. I didn’t know he hadn’t had a single in six years, I have no idea about any of his songs, because I don’t ever listen to a radio station that would play them, and never have.

But I would have clicked on and listened to this “Suit and Tie” here at mj’s, simply from idle curiosity because there was nothing left on the front page I cared to post to – except it’s already removed…so I’ll go right back to knowing Zero about Justin Timberlake. And it’s all good. Heh.

  • Trina

So many comments I’m reading about this all over the web are so similar to what was being said about Locked Out of Heaven. “Dated, meh, boring, ripped off of Police”, dont like this, sounds like nothing on pop radio so I dont know..” That song is now a #1 smash. Justin is a big enough star who might be able to put out something completely different than whats popular and make it a hit because he’s that big. And even if this freefalls down the road and its labeled a flop comeback it wont impact him at all, he’ll just go back to doing what he’s been doing the last 6 years. Idk, reading that open letter from him I dont think he even set out to make this “OMG comeback who will change the musical landscape”  I got the feeling he got the urge to start up on music again and just put out there what he was feeling. and the last couple of days was him having some fun with the fans.

The song sounds like a Robin Thicke song only Robin would have sung it better.^^ Agree about Robin Thicke….hmm…thought JT would go in a different direction.

  • http://www.facebook.com/djafans Fan Dja

I was hoping to have been impressed :(

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PVEFG2TOUIXSROKUSO2O2DOWWE Taylor

    Currently #1 on iTunes.

The song is a nice retro/R&B sound for Justin. It might end up working like Bruno’s song worked for him.
S&T would be a different sound for Pop radio, but that is a formula that is seeing some recent success.

  • Aavari

Oh, it will be a hit. There is no doubt about that. For me
it was simply that I wanted to feel that amazing “wow!!!” feeling that I’ve
gotten from some of JT’s other singles the first time I ever heard them.  /entitled.

  • Reflects On Life

I’m diggin’ it.  And my CHR station will be playing it every hour on the hour LOL.

But it sounds like 2 songs.  The first half sounds like pre-Thriller Michael Jackson (the “Off the Wall” era) and features just JT.  Once JayZ kicks in, it sounds like a different song – more like the overproduced layering that’s the hallmark of today’s era.

How are we saying that JT hasn’t had a hit in 6 years?  IIRC, “Carry Out” came out in 2009 and was a smash hit.  (Maybe it’s considered a Timbaland song and not a JT song, even though JT carried the vocals.)

  • http://www.facebook.com/beaugard.stevens Beaugard Stevens

    Very mediocre-

  • irockhard

I hate dance pop but made an exception for JT, he was the only dance pop artist I liked. His solo stuff was IMO the best pop music by a solo male artist since MJ’s History album. That said I’m not feeling this new song and not liking this new sound for him.

  • Niall

I like it. There’s some 70’s and 80’s r&b influence in there. It’s not catchy like “Rock Your Body” or some of his other hits but it definitely makes me interested in the direction he’s taking.

  • 1rollbounce2

I couldn’t get through 10 seconds.  Hate the rap/hip hop beat I heard.  But, maybe the teens and twenties will think it’s the $hit.

Couldn’t take any more than that 10 seconds.  ewwww

  • idolbeat

It sounds like early Matt Giraud to me. Matt’s music pre-idol had more r & b dance groove to it:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EvPM6nlc0A

  • blackberryharvest

Not a huge fan of the song, maybe it will grow on me though…

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

My local HAC station obligingly played the song during drive time. I find it… innocuous.

Since I was kinda… bored by the final chorus, I’m not sure it’s going to grow on me. I’d be on board for this being a warm-up for a song that explores some of the same style but is a bit more striking.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

Not to be rude, but WHAT? Is there really such a thing as “early Matt Giraud?” I wouldn’t embarrass Matt by attempting to compare him to Justin Timberlake.

As for the song, I think it’s boring. I heard it TWICE today while I was driving, and it just made me sad.

  • Eileen99

Wasn’t sure at first, but after hearing it on the radio a few times, am really liking it.  It’s such a refreshing change of pace from all the Mumford-type stuff invading pop radio.  I think I’ll end up loving this.

  • girlygirltoo

I was driving home from the airport tonight, and heard this on both the HAC and Pop stations. It really isn’t a very poppy song — seems like it would fit r&b formats better. But I expect to hear it quite a bit soon.

It’s ok, but it’s not something I would rush to buy

  • kmd23

The more I listen to the song the more I like it. The song is better than many of the songs I hear on top 40 pop radio. At least Justin does not rely on auto tune like many of them do. I think it sounds kind of old school and I like that.
