Justin Guarini to Join the Cast of Broadway’s ‘American Idiot’ in March

On the heels of his turn as Carlos in the Broadway musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous  Breakdown, Justin Guarini tells Broadway World that he will be returning to the Great White Way when he joins the cast of Green Day’s Tony Award winning musicalAmerican Idiot in March.

Justin spilled the beans last night after last night’s Drama League Gala. This year the show highlighted performances from Justin’s Verge co-star, the legendary Patti LuPone.  The 1st season American Idol runner-upi did not reveal which role he would be playing.

UPDATE: Justin will be taking over the part of “Will” in March, according to Broadway World

“Justin blew us away in his audition and I am thrilled to have him join the company of American Idiot,” says director and co-book writer Michael Mayer.

I never found Justin to be much of a singer.. but GOOD for him. I think he has done a good job making a go of the entertainment industry. Maybe he’ll surprise me if we eventually get some clips.

I hope that he will not play “St. Jimmy”!

oh god, Justin would be a TERRIBLE st jimmy. i highly doubt it would be that character, and if it is it would be unfortunate miscasting. but since melissa etheridge played the role i guess anything is poissible.

i remember reading some poll results on broadway .com or whatever it was and they mentioned who the audience of the show would like to see cast in american idiot and adam won with st jimmy. (now its no surprise that he won since idol fans vote for everything) but adam as st jimmy would make absolute perfect sense.

anyways i saw american idiot and it was one of those shows that felt like it was trying too hard to be edgy :

Justin will probably play the part played by Michael Esper who is set to move to an off-Broadway gig in a play by Tony Kushner at the Public Theater. I don’t know if Esper is leaving the show permanently or just for a limited time.

But I have to say Justin was one of the better things in the failed musical Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. He should continue to pursue acting and singing on stage.

He’s a pitiful singer. A spot on “American Idiot” is fitting.

Congratulations to Justin!! He obviously made a good impression with his work in Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown to be asked to audition for another show. He is very talented performer. I am so happy he has this opportunity.
