Darn next season lot..Majority seem to be good looking have been on a big label and dropped or appeared on a show..The new name professional idol plus others.

Jermaine Paul is out, eh? Poop! He coulda been my fave! Oh well. Need to regroup here! I kinda like Jason Castro. And Syesha (poor thing suffered through “The One” – she deserves a shot for that reason alone). SHe was one of two or three on that show that deserved better than a local talent show nod.

Yup, Micheal Johns was in the group “The Rising” which was was signed to Maverick Records and released a CD. Kristy Lee Cook was signed by Britney’s label.

I knew even before I looked at her myspace page that this girl, Ramielle Maulbay, is a Filipina. Her name certainly gives her away. LOL

I surely hope she has a “stronger” voice than that showcased on her myspace songs, though, because that didn’t impress me too much… :s

Jason Castro had a role on an MTV show so he’s not just a regular kid either. Michael Johns may have been the lead in a group that was signed by a major label and released a CD as well. One that got good reviews unless I’m confusing him with someone else. I think Kristy Lee Cook was signed by a label that Britney Spears created (under BMG) and I guess later dropped. I’m not sure if she ever put out an album.

just checked out some of these contestants, whoa, very professional pages, shiny photo shoots, bios, like a hollywood casting call.
indie and label records, in the studio, production meetings, these people have been doing this a while it seems.

did like Jason Castro, the student from Texas, his bio read like a kid going to school who plays music, seems real to me.a real good thing in my book. Michael Johns has a great voice, and style too, love his tone, not a real fan of this falsetto thing that lots of guy singers have going on these days.
Hoping that AI can give me a element of surprise with these contestants, the “professional” quality a bit of a turn off already.

Good points, jpfan. A friend and I were discussing this very fact last night. Previous contest winners. Singers signed to labels who even produced CD’s, videos, etc., who now are “trying out” among the great hordes of talented undiscovered’s.

I am expecting Mig from Rock Star to show up one day. Maybe Chris Young, who won Nashville Star, but who has gone nowhere. The possibilities are endless.

The Irish girl released an album for MCA a few years back that cost over 2 million to produce and sold about 400. She’s married to a man who’s completely covered in tattoos (including his face). I wonder if he’ll sit in the audience while she sings. That’ll really break the mold. Quite a few of the others have already been signed and dropped by major labels as well. It appears that after hours of auditions, we get to see people who already got their major label shot try again. This is kind of the way I saw it coming. In a couple of years,I predict future Idol contestants will be more famous singers who were dropped by the label – maybe Rueben can audition again.

I wonder if the show will acknowledge in any way the previous accomplishments of many of these people or just pretend they found them in the turnip patch. I’m just annoyed that my favorite, the Grammy nominess, came to his senses and dropped out. How exciting is it going to be to root for the one MCA dropped vs. the one that another major label signed vs. the one that was signed by Britney Spears and dropped. Maybe the back stories will all be how tough the music business is.

Not to say that talented people shouldn’t get to appear on Idol. It’s just that the allure of the show to me is discovering “undiscovered” talent. Very few of these people are. It’s kind of a shame they made them wait on line in a stadium to go through the pretense of an audition. I think the application form should have a check off for major label releases/ TV talent show won and it would have saved them alot of trouble.
