Does Season 7 Top 50 castoff Josiah Leming know that American Idol will be featuring “The Freshmen” on the show this week? I’ll bet he does. He just posted an acoustic version of the song on You Tube.

Check it out after the JUMP…

Of course, I dig it.

    I think it’s “The Freshmen” (i.e., plural).

MJ, do you think Josiah will be invited to perform from his new album on Idol this season? And do you think he’d accept after all the trash-talking that went down several months ago? He sounds fantastic here, and I really like his new stuff.

Love Josiah. He puts so much emotion into everything he sings. I would love to see him come back to idol!

    Josiah. Sigh.

    Edited: Because…I’m slow.

    I dig it, too. :D

Maybe if the album became a hit? Otherwise, I can’t see Idol helping Josiah in any way.

I am not a fan of his. I don’t know what it is, but he just doesn’t grab me.

  • Allison

I don’t know if it’s just me, but I find that really whiny.

  • erennick

Love it! Big fan and all. Can’t imagine he would be invited back, and I don’t think he would complain about that. AI got a lot of mileage off of him as a story last season, and without that spotlight we wouldn’t have been introduced to his beautiful songs.

What is it about? Any thoughts, I can’t figure it out.

Season 6 Top 50 castoff Josiah Leming

    Wasn’t he in Season 7?

  • ozarka

Does Season 6 Top 50 castoff Josiah Leming know that American Idol will be featuring à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The Freshmenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ on the show this week?

MJ, it’s no biggie, of course, but Josiah is from season 7, not 6. It’s hardly worth mentioning, but I know you like your posts to have accurate information.

ETA: Whoops! sabby_rina beat me to it.

Wow, after all the trash talk, he’s using Idol again to get attention?! His sales not high enough? If he goes on Idol, I’m going to laugh myself silly because after everything, he still needs the glorified karaoke contest that he’s supposedly too good for.

  • May

The Freshmen is one of my favorite songs, but I really, really disliked this interpretation.

  • bigjr6633

It wouldn’t make sense for him to go back on Idol, actually it wouldn’t make sense for them to invite him back to Idol unless he becomes like a big success story, which I doubt will happen but we’ll see.

    I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know if ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just me, but I find that really whiny.

It’s called “emo” and there are buttloads of artists out there just like Josiah that make a good living at it.

  • Dlynne

    Of course, I dig it.

    Me too, MJ.

  • whosefanryou

Not as much as I dig him singing his own songs (his EP is fantastic), but yeah, I dig it too.

You didn’t ask me, but I’ll answer anyhow…umm because I can? I think there’s slim to no chance they will ask him. I think he would jump at the chance because I think he’s a whore.

Ultimately I think if you go on Idol and then after they don’t want you, you start bad talking it, well you’re useless. You either stand firm or you don’t but you don’t go both ways. So yeah, he lost any credibility with me

  • seattle_girl

I actually like his original songs. He writes interesting stuff (Angels Undercover for instance). But then again, I give points for ‘unusual’ and ‘unique’ over a big booming voice. Bad recording quality doesn’t help here. I’m hoping he keeps his distance from Idol (and vice versa) though. Anyone know how well his album did??

    Josiah. Sigh.

More like GAG for me… lol

  • Soapbox0916

Yay, thanks for posting this. I have got to disagree about the trash talking mostly. I am a huge fan and I have referred to it as glorified karokee before Josiah did. Not everybody sees karokee as such a bad word and I love that AI is the ultimate singing cover contest. I also love original writing too, but there is a time and place for each, which is what I think was the point that was missed. Josiah is very honest in his analysis and has said a variety of things. I think that analytical people can come across as critical to people, but is just their personality.

  • MaryS-NJ

I dig it. He’s one of two non-finalists whose original music I have bought (Tami Gosnel was the other). He sometimes comes across as a brat who probably doesn’t help himself with some of the things he says, but I still dig him as a budding musician.

I like this interpretation, especially after watching some of the auditions this week – which remind that many people with good voices can do little more than mimic the original artistis, or who confuse lots of runs with originality.

I think Josiah puts a lot of himself into whatever he does. He could tone down the sharpness on a few of his notes, but other than that I think he’s got real potential to make a living as a musician, if not as a major recording artist.
