Watch Josh Kaufman rehearse two songs from the musical Pippin. The Voice season 6 winner has been cast as the lead in the Broadway production at the Music Box in New York City, and is set to take over the part on October 31 for a limited engagement through January 4.
“There’s a lot to it as far as obviously your typicals, the songs and the lines, but also the acrobatics,” Josh says of learning the part of Pippin. “There’s a lot to get in my head, but it’s getting there.” Josh has been in rehearsals for nearly three weeks now.
“It’s such a unique show,” said Josh “It’s a pretty up-and-down sort of journey for Pippin. … Maybe this isn’t something that people who have watched me and seen what I’ve done would have normally come to do, but I hope that maybe it’ll bring some of those people out and they’ll realize, ‘Hey, this is an amazing show.’”
In this new video, from Broadway.com, Josh talks about the physical transformation he had to undergo for the role, which involved a shave and a haircut–and how he’s embraced this new challenge in his life.
