Jordin Sparks Hot and Cold Cover for the BBC1

Jordin Sparks covers the Katy Perry smash, “Hot and Cold” at the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge on 10/13. I’d fire those backup singers! Yikes!   Still, the song isn’t exactly in Jordin’s wheelhouse, but she gets props for stretching.

The Season 6 Idol winner is in the UK promoting her latest album Battlefield.

Jordin also entertained peeps at the Live Lounge with a jazzy, acoustic version of her new single “S.O.S. (Let the Music Play)”. Check it out after the jump…

    I am not a fan of Jordin, but IMO she looks really pretty in these videos.

    LOL That cover was just a big mess. Like, everything about it is bad. Sounds like 4 high school friends trying to cover a song that is too big for them.
    The original was a bit better, but seriously, the backup vocals are terrible.

    Thanks for that. Oh, and not to be anal or anything, but for future reference:
    BBC = media outlet
    BBC 1/2/3/4 = TV Channels
    BBC Radio 1/2/3/4 etc. = Radio channels (what this is)
    ‘The BBC1′ doesn’t really make sense; it would either be ‘BBC1′ or ‘The BBC’. This was from BBC Radio 1.

    What is it with idols and covers? She’s no longer on American Idol and she can sing original songs. That song is not for her, that’s Katys song and she need to leav it alone. Jordin needs to just do what she do best, which is pretty much sing the same type of boring songs again and again.

    Ummm I liked her outfit. Didn’t like her cover, so wrong for her.

    doesn’t even sound like her. if people ever wondered why judges always stress “song choice”…this is the reason. this cover is a big mess and doesn’t showcase jordin’s voice at all…if this was the first time that I heard her sing, I would’ve thought she was an amateur street performer.

    To my ear, the background singers were on pitch with the piano and guitar. So, in keeping with my new Mr. Nice Guy image, I’m going to assume that either:

    a) The chick who won American Idol isn’t used to British headphones and she couldhn’t hear.

    b) She’s not used to the way British electric pianos are tuned.

    She does great singng along with backing tracks of her singles with doubled and layered vocals.

    Jordan is really a beautiful girl. I like her on S.O.S. but the guy doing backup sounds …. well, not good. On the Katy Perry song, I keep wanting her to take a deep breath. I feel asthmatic listening to it.

    Huh, what was that? She’s so good singing her own originals and covers of GOOD songs, so why’d she pick a mediocre song from a mediocre singer? Anyway, isn’t she gorgeous though?

    Jordin looks gorgeous but sounds shrill, and I can do without Breathy McBreatherson on the background vocals, too.

    Doesn’t BBC Radio One usually has artists come in and cover other people’s songs as part of their performance? I believe Daughtry covered Lady Gaga’s Pokerface for this same program.

    I’d like to hear the SOS song without the chick singing off key. The guys had a nice mellow groove going.

    I guess we can add Jordan to the growing list of Auto-tune divas.

    that is what they do on that show they had what is called a secret cover and they can pick any cover they chose . Jordin did great though she can certainly handle songs way behind Katy Perry’s range as well.

    Oh, that hurt my ears. That video needed to come with a warning. Why she chose to sing a song she couldn’t own is beyond me. That was all kinds of wrong. Yep, amateur and a waste of good tape. I agree, if I had never heard of Jordin, I would have thought she was a wannabe singer, and maybe she is. The airwaves are littered with Auto-tune queens. Yes, she won AI, but personally, I was never really impressed with her on the show. I think she knows how to play a pretty convincing game though. Well, I did, until now.

    The IdolChatter post on this also had a Fightstar (British Alt Rock band) cover of Battlefield. It was unexpected and really good!
