Jordin Sparks sang the lead single, “Battlefield”, from her upcoming album on Good Morning America earlier tody.

Two years ago, Jordin was performing with the American Idols Live tour–now she’s opening for the Jonas Brothers on their summer tour and promoting her second album. It’s kinda cool to see how much her confidence and performance skills have grown since then.

The album, Battlefield, comes out tomorrow.

VIDEO after the JUMP…

wow she looks gorgeous and sounds even better :)

    goooooooooooo jordin!!

Someone needs to hook up Kelly Clarkson with Jordin’s stylist. Jordin looks like she WANTS to impress, both with her voice and her persona. Kelly, on the other hand, always looks like she just doesn’t care a hoot (Kelly may want it to be all about the voice, but in a visual setting she needs to at least look like she is trying).

Jordin is setting herself up for a nice future. I may not, personally, be into the pop sound but I can hear the growth in her voice and when she’s ready to really embrace a Jordin sound I think she will be ready and her fans, hopefully, will follow her where she wants to go.

ITA Tess, Kelly needs to at least look like she’s trying.

Just listening to Jordin’s songs at the club and a bunch of girls singing out loud ‘Battlefield’ on the bus here in London makes me feel proud of this girl. She certainly has a bright future. lol

I love Jordin. She sounds so good and she’s such a great person. And she looks fantastic.

  • hwc

She’s pretty good at lip-synchnig to an auto-tuned soundtrack, isn’t she?

  • terps

She’s pretty good at lip-synchnig to an auto-tuned soundtrack, isn’t she

I agree, more and more people are doing to

  • AIfan7488

Are you kidding me? it’s easy to tell that she’s not lip-synching, you can hear it. Her voice doesn’t even sound the same as it does on the track.

  • Tess

Yea…I don’t think Jive is going to throw money away on a band and back-up singers to have Jordin lip-synch on national TV. She has an awesome live voice, and unlike a lot of the Disney bunch she doesn’t need the help.

  • hwc

    No, I’m not kidding you.

Yes, she can sing live. She was probably even singing along with the fully-produced backing track in that video, a backing track that included multiple auto-tuned layers of Ms. Sparks’ voice — along with the strings and the choir and all the rest.

  • babybelle32

Wow, she looks beautiful. She has grown so much over the past two years. I think Battlefield will be a bigger hit than her debut album.

  • dipeza

Ummm i dont think she was lipsyching on the show..but i will say this much. When i first heard the track i think they manipulated her voice a little too much because jordin is naturally talented that she doesn’t need at that shit done to her voice. but o well, thats the direction they were going with that song. either way, she sounds beautiful and she has lots yet to do.

Jordin is singing this song live every night, she’s also singing it live in this clip.

Jordin doesn’t have a problem singing live. I’ve seen her do it.

  • waffle

Wonderful performance! Loved this song on first listen. Thanks for posting!

  • hwc

What’s live? What we are hearing here is the equivalent of a singer standing in the control room of a recording studio and singing along with a fully-produced mix of a song. You would have to unplug the Roland to hear that actual sound of the live band and singers.

The issue is not whether Jordan can sing live or not. We’ve all heard that she has a good voice. The issue is whether or not she and the band can produce THAT performance — the auto-tuned and doubled voice layers, the processing, the choir, the strings. They can’t, which is why they peform along with a heavily produced backing track. It’s no big secret that this is the way much pop music is performed “live” these days.

  • BootStar

Yeah, I’m not a fan of that song, but she’s clearly singing live. And she looks FANTASTIC. I have to agree with Tess, Kelly really could use Jordin’s stylist.

  • canadiandcfan

everytime i see her perform this song i love her even more. she’s really fantastic, her voice is superb and she’s a total doll to watch. i really hope this album brings along a new wave of fans and propels her to even more greatness.
    thanks mj!

Jordin has really surprised me in a good way with this second cd and her performances supporting it. She’s grown into the perfect pop star (and a great role model for girls).

Apparently, season 3′s Leah Labelle is one of her backup singers. I didn’t hear her caterwauling off key, though, so I’m skeptical. ;)

  • Tess

A backing track is absolutely not the same thing as lip-synching. In my day it was called a synthesizer and you could play a whole damn orchestra on the thing. But the vocals, the back up vocals, the guitar, the bass, and the rythym is definitely live. I find it ammusing that in today’s live singing the only people that get any cred are those that play accustic or sing acapella. If there is anykind of “backing” then the whole damn thing is considered phony. Well tell that to rock groups like Pink Floyd that could turn a guitar and a key board into an orchestra. Geesh!

  • hwc

    Tess:

There are vocals on Ms. Sparks’ backing track. Significant vocals. As in, if she and the background singers walked off the stage, you will still be able to sing along quite nicely.

They don’t call them synthesizers anymore. Keyboards are music production synthesizer workstations. The difference is that, in your day, studio recordings were not done on computers and could not be carried to the stage and played on a laptop computer, interfaced to a music production synthesizer workstation.

It’s not “phony” to sing along to a fully-produced backing track. It’s just “singing along to a fully-produced backing track”. It is what it is.

Aw, she looks amazing – she has a great voice, glad she’s doing so well!

I was skeptical before watching this bacause I was thinking “how could this girl win and Allison Iraheta could barely stay out of the bottom 3″. But that’s not fair, and I actually came away from this video a tentative fan of Jordin. She is Beautiful (LOL at kelly needing her stylist, but I must agree. Image is half the battle for artists these days) well spoken, and the song is pretty catchy. Good luck to her…

  • savgal

ITA Tess, Kelly needs to at least look like she’s trying.

    Hear, hear.
We can’t all be Carrie U., but we can try to be OUR best. Jordin looked absolutely lovely, and a great role model in that she shows you don’t have to be stick-thin. OTOH, I think Kelly has one of the best pop voices out there, but (and don’t hate me) she needs to take care of herself, too.

I think Jordin’s power-ballad, pop style is probably more universally liked by an Idol audience — especially coming from a teenager — than Allison’s rock-girl aesthetic.

And then there was the little matter of who Jordin was competing with, compared to who Allison was competing with. The only really great singer among Jordin’s competitors was Melinda. (Allison was competing with the likes of Kris, Adam, Danny, Anoop, at least, who are all great singers in one way or another) Plus, among the top singers in Jordin’s group, nobody was really gorgeous or highly sexy (compared again with the same list) — that was, in fact, the sort of plain jane year that they quickly followed up with Seasons 7 and, to a lesser degree, 8, where pretty much everybody in the top 12 could have a shot at some kind of modeling contract. Jordin’s good, but she was in a very different competition than Allison was in.

After watching a few video clips of Jordin’s concert performance of Battlefield, I have to say that I prefer the live version. I like the song, but the studio version takes just a little too long to build. The concert version hits you right from the get-go. Jordin has progressed incredibly with her stage presence and sounds really good live. In general I agree with those that say she doesn’t need all those studio enhancements, but Battlefield needs the background effects to duplicate something like The Battle of Gettysburg.

One thing I’ve learned from various YouTube clips is that Jordin is not shy about putting herself out there vocally without a “safety net.” I’ll bet if someone asked her to sing Battlefield with just her acoustic guitar she would do it! Talk about fearless – watch her sing an unrehearsed duet of Bridge Over Troubled Waters with Josh Groban at Celebrity Fight Night.

Definitely plan to buy her CD tomorrow, and have been previewing songs the last couple days. My favorite song by far is The Cure, which she co-wrote. I really hope that this one is released as a single, but am afraid that it could get lost in the shuffle. Interesting that the reviews coming out now in the press are so mixed. One reviewer likes half the songs, hates the other half. Another reviewer likes exactly the opposite. Put me in the column of liking them all for the most part, but especially the ones that she co-wrote, such as Was I the Only One, Faith, and, of course, The Cure. I hope this is the direction she will ultimately go in.

Jordin sounded great, and no it wasn’t lip-synched.

She also looked beautiful, as usual, but I’m not jumping on the stylist bandwagon just yet. That dress was hideous and did nothing for her.

The anchor dude seemed to have quite the crush, though. LOL.

  • iluvai

My 9 year old looks a lot like a mini Jordin. I think Jordin is beautiful and looks great!

  • adamisthemanfan

LOL I love how she just unintentionally outed the Jonas Brothers…”They’re just hype..” hehe
