Jordin Sparks and Paula Abdul Join VH1 Divas

Hm, this does not do much for me to make this any more credible than it was originally. Come on, most of these people are not in any way “Divas”.

Jordin must have sold 1 million copies internationally of her first album, since she is just over 1 million here in the US and this says she sold over 2 million copies. Wow, that surprises me. But good for her.

Funny how Jordin goes from being a “starlet” to a “super-star” in the space of one paragraph.

I’m so relieved Paula finally got a gig, even if it’s only a one-nighter. I just hope they don’t make her sing, that would be embarrassing.

Paula Abdul — diva — absolutely. She deserves the title and gig just for putting up with 19a-z for 8 years.

I love Adele and Kelly but I’m sorry, I see that lineup and I think a lot of people turned VH1 down. No disrespect meant to Leona and Jordin who are talented. If MILEY FREAKIN CYRUS being invited hadn’t already turned this into a joke, having Paula as a host seals that deal.

Divas is supposed to bring together the biggest, most talented female names in music out there in all genres. Instead we’re getting 3 girls who are either known for or will be promoting Ryan Tedder singles (I know Kelly’s MUCH more than that but she’s already said she’ll be singing AG there), a Disney teen who’s basically trying to be Kelly Clarkson but is a crappy singer, and Adele. There’s no urban genre representation and there’s no country genre representation. There isn’t even a rock singer even though Kelly does pop rock.

Seems Carrie turned them down because she’s got her Oklahoma Music Hall Of Fame induction and concert that night. Taylor Swift at least has the sales but she can’t sing and I bet she’s got something else going on. How about Jennifer Nettles of Sugarland? She would’ve rocked this thing. But she’s on tour so maybe there was a conflict.

Where are Alicia, Christina, Beyonce, Lady GaGa, people like that? I’d guess Whitney and/or Mariah will be a late add but right now this lineup is MAJORLY lacking in star power.

Oh Whitney will be there. Her album drops just around the same time. She’ll probably make some kind of grand “surprise” entrance at the end of the show.

This is a gala looking around desperately for someone to celebrate instead of a celebration designed to actually honor someone that is, you know, worthy of being celebrated.

The whole “VH1 Divas!” thing has been marginal for years, but her inclusion just pushed it over the line into ludicrous clusterf*ck.

wow, that’s a pretty weak line up. No real long career stars there.

Still waiting for some real Divas to get added. Nothing against Jordin and Kelly but where are people like Whitney, Mariah, Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Keyshia Cole, Patti Labelle, Celine Dion. VH1 dropped the ball major with this lineup.

Like it or not Miley Cyrus sells a lot of albums… Not familiar with the show so can’t comment too much on it. Maybe VH1 will find some other jobs for Paula and keep her busy, if she can keep herself together for this one.

Kelly and Adele I can see because they both are Grammy award winning singers. Leona I can see there to, but Miley and Jordin really don’t belong in the group.

Minus Miley Cyrus, great line up! Jordin definitely deserves to be there. She has had a ton of success and a lot of people like her. Paula hosting…meh. Whatever, lol.

I’m just excited for Kelly Clarkson! This would probably help boost up sales of her album too since VH1 loves to replay those things over and over…. and over. I’m actually not too suprised by the lineup so far since all the old vh1 divas shows had celine and mariah, etc. already. Also, when they announced on VH1.com that they might bring the show back and wanted names, a lot of the comments had the original 4 (along with Beyonce and Carrie).

The other day on a local Toronto radio station, they played Miley Cyrus’ latest single Party In The USA and said it was the #1 song in the U.S. Listening to it, I was struck by how different she sounded compared to the time she was a guest on AI last year – AutoTune must have had a real workout on that song. Right after the song ended, I couldn’t remember a single bit of melody from it. Does it even HAVE any so-called catchy pop melody hooks? Why are so many teens so enamoured with Miley Cyrus?

Everyone there will sing beautifully as they have great voices except for Miley. She doesn’t seem to mind the embarrassment though so good for her I guess

I don’t think the teens are enamoured with her at all. At least not the ones I know. She attracts the 11 and under crowd more. My 5 year old loves her. And, of my friends who’ve taken their kids to see her in concert, they were all with kids 10 and under.

This line-up is a joke, no one in their right mind would classify these people as musical divas. The only even within a mile of being classified as a diva is Kelly. Miley Cyrus, I gag to even think of her as some type of great singer. She’s a disney singer, singing to ten and eleven year olds. How does this classify her as a diva. My god, this show has has got to be desperate, to choose a lot of wannabes superstars. Jordin Sparks, what a joke, how many number one hits have she had. She’s an average singer, who has never garnered any great praise. Compared to shows of the past, this show is pathetic.

Wow, amazing what depths must be trolled to produce women that will increase ratings. What’s next? Will Paula and Miley be reading the evening news with Katie Couric to boost their ratings. What’s sad is if we were to combine Paula and Miley into one person, we still wouldn’t have a good singer or good host.

Vh1 along with its sister station MTV no longer have credibility …so the lineup doesnt surprise me. In fact, I wouldnt be shocked if Bret Michaels MCs the event and I Love New York makes a special appearance dancing on a pole.
