According to FOX News:

John McCain is scheduled to appear on Saturday Night Live this weekend, FOX has learned.

It will be the GOP nominee’s second appearance on the show this year. He last appeared on the late night comedy show on May 17. Among the skits he did was a faux presidential address where he said one of the key reasons to elect him was that he is “realy, really old.” He also appeared on the Weekend Update segment where he called on Democrat to keep the primary race going on as long as possible.

Runningmate Gov. Sarah Palin made her own guest appearance on the show 2 weeks ago. Both candidates have been the subject of dozens of skits in recent weeks.

No details as of yet on the nature of the skit this weekend and no official comment from the campaign yet.

Also appearing on SNL this weekend as the musical guest…David Cook

I guess Obama couldn’t make it. Damn.

  • elisad

Well duh! Lorne Michaels has donated to McCain Campaign. No I’m kidding. I’ll take John the Senator, he’s one funny man. But who cares… Matt Damon better show up!

  • GEEK4VOCAB

Aw man. That’s all kinds of wrong. I feel like I got the door prize. Oh well, at least we have Cookie.

  • ggdoorsfan

:down_tb: Obama was one big reason I was tuning in….

  • JudyOhio

McCain can be pretty funny actually, so it will probably be good! And don’t forget, our MAIN objective…..what we’re watching for…..the Cookster!

If I remember correctly, the last SNL before the elections is on Nov. 3..so Obama might be hosting then..jmo

  • Sarah

Waaaaaaah. There goes the good karma I was so excited for between David and Barack! True, McCain can be a funny guy, but ……..

  • KrazeeK120

I don’t think I’m going to be able to see the show and I’m super sad :( I like Cook & McCain…but not necessarily together… David’s probably just singing though. He won’t be in any of the skits, I’m sure.

I want ‘em BOTH…TOGETHER!!! Tsk. Guess I can’t have my cake and eat it too. Darn. :laugh_tb:

  • dancingqueen

It is an interesting appearance, with Afleck hosting, but, not interesting enough. And though I like Cook as a person, his music isn’t my thing.

  • tinawina

Politics aside, both McCain and Obama have pretty good comic timing. McCain should be pretty entertaining. Palin wasn’t funny at all (suprisingly) and Biden is only funny when he’s not trying to be. LOL. I’m watching regardless. Besides, I live in Ohio, I can see Obama anytime. :tongue1_tb:

  • elisad

Aw, let’s not pick on Joe the Senator, he doesn’t get to go on SNL at all, nobody cares about him…poor guy.

  • Davidx2

I didn’t think Ben Affleck was that tall but Cookie sure did look short next to him??

Can’t wait for Saturday night….David Cook and an extra hour of sleep! :clap_tb:

  • tinawina

Aw, letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not pick on Joe the Senator, he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get to go on SNL at all, nobody cares about himà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦poor guy.

LMAO! I actually love me some Biden, he’s the guy I would most look forward to on Sunday morning news shows precisely because he was ridiculously blunt. He always cracked me up, and I usually agreed with him to boot. But I don’t know if he can tell a joke. He’s like Archie with the unintentional hilarity. Ha.

  • sma11ie

Affleck is pretty tall– ever seen Matt Damon next to him? But also, I thought it was a little weird that DC was standing so much behind him as well, which made him look even smaller. Like, he was further back than Fred Armisen and Darrel Hammond…

  • Trina

If I remember correctly, the last SNL before the elections is on Nov. 3..so Obama might be hosting then..jmo

No that’s a presidential special and from what I understand there isn’t an actual host. It will probably be like all their other political specials.

I’m for Obama but McCain does have his supporters so I’m fine with him being there.

    Ben is 6’4 btw.

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

    I want à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹em BOTHà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦TOGETHER!!! Tsk. Guess I canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t have my cake and eat it too. Darn.

Haha.. I want them to be on the same show too!

    Maybe David was starstruck..? LOL

  • JudyOhio

As long as he’s been around by now, I never realized how tall Ben was until I saw him standing with Cook. I always thought that Matt Damon was just very short, lol. Man, at 6′ 4″, I bet he really makes an entrance (stands out) when he enters a room!

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    Maybe David was starstruck..? LOL

Just a little….LOL. He looked kinda nervous.

  • elisad

What? Matt Damon is not very short? He’s got the “I’m not very tall” face.

I really like Biden, especially his gaffes…

  • sma11ie

    He looked kinda nervous.

Really? I thought he looked chill, like he was just hanging back, not trying to mug for the camera. Though, actually, as a fan, I wish he had– been a bit more… what’s the word I’m looking for? Like, not all up in-our-face, but maybe just a little? Haha–sorry, I’m a demanding and fickle Cook fan.

  • http://widyatarina.wordpress.com widz

Just a littleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.LOL. He looked kinda nervous.

Yep, I could tell from his facial expressions..:P

Bahahaha…the ‘I’m not very tall face’ Love it, elisad!!
I like Biden’s gaffe too! I can’t wait for SNL!!! TOMORROW!!! IT’S TOMORROW!!!
    LOL

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

    He looked kinda nervous.

    Really?

Yep, especially in the first one, when Ben looks at him.

  • Trina

He did look nervous, and he said in the ET interview he’s nervous. I don’t blame him at all {hugs him} Other than that with these promos the host/MG are told what to say and do by a director.

  • KarenLE67

Just because McCain is being announced, I don’t think it necessarily means that Obama won’t be there. He might, you never know until it’s over. And I’d be surprised if there wasn’t an AI sketch, and I’d would be surprised if they didn’t put David in it. It’s a live comedy show, anything could happen.

  • waffle

From the promo ads, I too am guessing that they’ll put David in a sketch somehow. How can the SNL writers resist not tying in the number of votes David received for the finale and his 12 million winning vote margin, to the upcoming election? It’s not hard to see a joke there somewhere.

But then if this happens, the next question would be how this would affect David’s “rock cred”. If he’s trying to distance himself from AI by going on SNL, it’s probably not going to happen with this election episode.

Still excited, though. Can’t wait to see him and the band! :)

  • sma11ie

How can the SNL writers resist not tying in the number of votes David received for the finale and his 12 million winning vote margin, to the upcoming election?

I’m conflicted. On one hand, I want to say I’m not expecting a skit, because the fact that they integrated the AI-voting/election joke into both promos means the writers may not feel the need to rehash that in the episode. (Also, I don’t want to get my hopes up.) On the other hand, I do recall that sometimes, the little promo jokes are a teaser for an actual sketch that will make the show. So I dunno what that means, or what my conclusion is. I guess just that I’m pessimistically optimistic, haha– which also doesn’t mean anything…

About the nervousness thing, I’m sure he’s hella nervous about playing, but I just wasn’t sure he was nervous for the filming of the promo clip. It’s just a clip, and they get several takes. Though, now that I think about it I may have gotten more of a “shy” vibe, actually. Jibes with my whole impression that he was shrinking back a bit. Anyways, I’ll stop overanalyzing– for now =P. Cannot wait til SNL!

  • Keel

But then if this happens, the next question would be how this would affect Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“rock credà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . If heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s trying to distance himself from AI by going on SNL, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s probably not going to happen with this election episode.

What rock cred? The dude won American Idol. It’s kind of hard for him to distance himself from AI unlike, say, Daughtry (not that I’m saying he has any rock cred), given that 40 million people watched him win the whole thing just six months ago. Rock cred, if that ever materializes for Cook, will be the product of his work over a period of years and certainly not something that would materialize off his first album (we can hope, but that’s not likely to happen AFAIC). I’m sure he’s let that pipe dream go (for now) and hopes that his music is judged on its own merits somewhere down the line. For now, cred-wise, his music will always, for certain fans, carry the “stench” of American Idol and there’s no point in worrying about that now. IMHO, he’s better off just embracing the American Idol connection and redefining what that means through his music, and just let the chips falls where they may.

  • gingerly

But then if this happens, the next question would be how this would affect Davidà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“rock credà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . If heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s trying to distance himself from AI by going on SNL, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s probably not going to happen with this election episode.

I think what will help David’s “rock cred” is his performance. He can’t deny that he was on American Idol and there’s no point in trying. Now he has to show what he has. There are just too many hilarious things they could do if he was in a skit not to mention more crumbs for us to devour.

Palin wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t funny at all (suprisingly)

I’m not surprised at all. Comedy takes timing, an awareness and some intelligence.

  • Michelle

Aw, I was listening to both candidates’ campaigning schedules on the Today Show this morning and Obama’s schedule has him in something like 3-4 different states on Saturday…and he’s been going into the evening with the rallies lately. So it seems iffy that he’ll be able to fit in time to fly to NYC :( Maybe they can do something via satellite…it seems a shame he won’t get to go on before the election.

I noticed Ben looked HUGE next to the other guys too! LOL

  • Trina

Not only did he win AI, but, well magic rainbow LOL He’s had a song #1 on the AC chart for 6 weeks in a row. Not exactly screaming RAWKK!! So far Hot AC seems to be the format embracing him the most and that’s not necessarily a bad thing, but I think the rock cred will have to come in due time and he’s going to have to help build that for himself.

  • Michelle

I never realized how tall Ben was until I saw him standing with Cook. I always thought that Matt Damon was just very short, lol.

LOL, me too! When the SNL commercial came up I had to turn to my bf (who went w/me to meet David during Tour) and ask, “uh, is Ben Affleck really tall or is David a lot shorter than I remember?”

  • IndyMuse

The funny thing is that David seemed to tower over the other contestants in AI, to the point where I thought HE was super-tall. It seems odd to see him look short next to Affleck, but then I was surprised he was 5’11″ when I would have guessed at least 6’2″.

  • sparklesgirl2

I’m putting money on Obama showing up as a surprise either 11/1 or 11/3. His campaign is gonna keep mum about it, for the suspense.

Super excited for Cookie… probably going to be out that night, so I’ll tape it. :)

  • soundscene

    Um… check out this rumor.

    http://defamer.com/5072706/studio-8h-to-smell-like-egg-salad-and-vaporub

    McCain doing an Archie impression?!

Edit: apparently it’s Defamer kidding around (I can never tell with them)–but that would be one funny skit.

    McCain doing an Archie impression?!

The kids can calm down. Defamer is all about the SNARK. I believe they’re kidding.

  • soundscene

^^ Aw, too bad. That would be hella funny. lol.

  • Lu

Guess I’m the only one here who’s happy McCain will be on SNL. No matter what your political beliefs, he can be pretty funny.

  • bean99

I’m disappointed that it’s not Obama. I’m to the point I don’t want to see McCain even if it’s a funny skit. I’ll try to remember to check out David at least.

  • cricket

I do not like the politicians doing appearances on entertainment shows like SNL. Politicians are not supposed to be entertainers and entertainers should be entertainers and stay out of politics , sorry but I just don’t like it when these lines are crossed. Besides I am so sick of everything being so saturated with politics that I just want to escape into something that is just fun and not be reminded of partisan bickering. You can’t escape the ads even on animal planet anymore. geesh ! :thumbdown_tb:

  • gerreb

I plan in on watching tomorrow. I’m not sure I’ll be able to hold back on political thoughts if I got into chat, though. LOL.

  • Grammie Kari

It would have been interesting to see what type of skit Obama would have been in, had he appeared on the show. Yes, I would like to see David in a skit. Looking forward to seeing Affleck, also!

  • skylight1219

Go Mac. Obama has no comedy in him. He’s all doom and gloom. He depresses me.
