Jessica Sanchez performs as part of a week long tribute to the late, legendary pop singer, Whitney Houston who died a year ago.

Jessica tells Billboard:

“Everything that Whitney did, she really made her mark,” says Sanchez, whose rise in the music world began with her runner-up finish on “American Idol” in 2012. “‘The Bodyguard,’ I love that movie and the reason I sang, ‘I Will Always Love You’ today is that is one of my favorite songs from her. It was just such an amazing record and it really touched everybody. I don’t think anybody could ever sing it like her.”

“Her technique and her voice is completely different from anybody else, and that’s why she is Whitney Houston. That’s why she’s a legend,” Sanchez says, “and that’s why she was my biggest inspiration.”

Listen to Jessica’s beautiful, understated version of the song. Very nice.

Such a pretty version!  In the coming years, Jessica’s voice is going to mature and become even better.  Dolly Parton wrote one of the most emotional songs ever written.  Singers will be singing it 50 years from now.

Everytime Jessica sings this song it reminds me of Whitney…always…What a sweet girl, such a Pro!

  • fuzzywuzzy

Lovely and tender. Very nice rendition.

Such a gorgeous gentle version. Love that she’s adding more emotion to her performances. She’s clearly getting better.

It is remarkable how Jessica has evolved into a highly articulate young girl. She comes across quite well-spoken, mature, but both demure and humble for a seventeen year old!

Lovely! She is unbelievably talented! Th arrangement sounded like a karaoke track though

I can’t wait for her single/album to come out. The anticipation is killing me!

I like this. But there are just some songs that are so iconically tied to certain singers that every other singer should just not touch it:

Ring of Fire – Johnny Cash
Blownin’ in the Wind – Dylan
    Let it Be – Beatles
    Last Dance – Donna Summers
    Need You Tonight – INXS
    Kiss- Prince

I could go on. But maybe others should. I’m a bit tired tonight.

A shout-out to Daughtry for Ring of Fire and Jennifer Hudson for a superior rendition of I Will Always Love You, though. Both excellent. By the way. Dolly Parton’s rendition is also amazing. It’s her song, and it shows.

“…… there are just some songs that are so iconically tied to certain singers…”

This was a little more laid-back version than I look for.  Whitney, on the radio doing this song made you stop what you were doing & not get out of the car until it finished.  It seemed while Whitney sang it, as stunning & intense her voice was in it, you could at the same time hear a pin drop.  That song I agree she “owned it” as they say.  Even Dolly imo had to bow (just a tiny bit) to Whitney making it her’s.

You bet she had to bow.  Those bags of money Whitney made for her were very heavy! ;o)

I wasn’t going to listen because I’m so sick of this song and hearing and reading about Whitney. I realize it’s the one year anniversary of her death, but things become too much.

With that said, this is a lovely and sweet rendition by Jessica. Well done.

According to a report from a local daily, AI took footages of Jessica’s concert which might be shown when she guests on Idol. Hopefully, they will show the audience’s reaction when she sang Ikaw. :)
