Agree on the tough crowd. I’ve been out of the Jessica threads for the past few days, but I don’t see anything wrong with her single cover. As said, she’s 17. She will be 18 soon enough. Also for anybody that thinks this is Jessica play acting IMO doesn’t look at any of the various pics and other things she posts on twitter and etc, which has been happening since Idol. Not that she posts anything inappropriate, but she posts pics that show a more sensual side than I think what people expect based on their own assumptions from Idol.

I also strongly dislike the condemning of a person’s career before they even get their chance. Maybe Jessica’s single will do well. Maybe it will flop. But let her have her chance before she is declared a failure.

My only question mark with Jessica is I know she has the vocal chops to sing anything, but I question what her performance level will be like when she’s singing clubby dance music. I don’t think she’s much of a dancer, so I’m not sure how she will pull it off, but I’m willing to give her the benefit of the doubt. She might surprise me there.

Other stars that’ll be there include Demi Lovato, Trey Songz, Olly Murs, Emeli Sande, The Wanted, Cher Lloyd and a few more.

Excited for this. She’ll play this show three days after she releases her album (May 10th). Hope the promo and appearances keep rolling in.

Funny that you bring up Elliott…I was thinking about him while reading the comments on this post. He didn’t follow the usual ‘Idol’ timetable with his 1st album-people were declaring his career *over* too when he didn’t get signed to a major label. No one expected him to have a hit single.

Obviously Jessica single and album release is not following the usual pattern for Idol runner ups. I have never gotten the sense that Interscope has not supported or will not support her. There’s no guarantee this single will take off but the fact that she’s releasing it now isn’t a guarantee of impending failure. The logic that because Pia & Haley flopped Jessica is doomed to meet the same fate doesn’t make much sense either but that’s how it goes in the Idol bubble I suppose. LOL.

Collabs are usually designed to promote BOTH artists. And if you’re a new artist, a collab is designed to get fans of the established artist to check you out.

So I’m guessing whoever Ne-Yo’s market it, is the same market that Jessica’s people are aiming for. Ne-Yo is a Top 40 staple but also has cred in urban and R&B. He’s the perfect example of a cross over artist.

I have no idea whether Jessica will hit it big. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of buzz, and Glee is no longer in its ratings/water cooler heyday. But I remember thinking the same thing about Jordin Sparks, and then both Tattoo & No Air turned into big hits. It’s rarely predictable.

As far as the single cover, it’s right on the edge of what I personally would feel comfortable with given her age, but she’s clothed and is 17 going on 18 in a very competitive business, not 15 going on 16. It is sexy-ish but not risqué.

A single that does well will help both of them. Just like it did for Jordin. At the end of the day it never mattered how well Jessica sold to AI fans, she will need and always needed a single that would do well with the demo that her music is being targeted to.

Speaking of JT. Not only did the single come out of no where. The announcement of the album did as well. But within a week, “Suit and Tie” had criss-crossed the internet and was on the radio all over the world. Now JT is everywhere.

Obviously JT and his people carefully laid out plans to promote the single and the album that NO ONE KNEW ABOUT. There was no build up. One day there was no JT, the next day – BAM! He was everywhere.

Now, I’m not saying that’s going to happen to Jessica, but the argument that there must be great buildup before hearing a new song is not true. Of course it helps that JT is way more established than Jessica. But, then again, it’s been 7 years since his last album. There is/was no guarantee people would still care.

I thought Idol got Home on the olympics.Doesn’t the daughter of the olympic producer and also the niece of Al Michaels work as producer for idol.Home is a good song but that was not exactly luck. The producer might not have even been aware of the song if his daughter was not a producer and he decides what music is used. That is nepotism not luck.

Jessica is beautiful. It’s going to be fun watching her career blossom because the girl has so much potential. With the right people supporting and believing in her she will be fine. It takes years for artists to build their careers. As Idol fans we expect too much too soon but I prefer slow and steady and building a fanbase that will stay with you for years.

The story regarding Home was that somebody involved with the Olympics coverage heard it on Idol, then asked a contact (relative?) who worked on Idol about the song. So the placement wasn’t something that anybody involved with Idol set out to accomplish. (The whole thing’s somewhere in MJ’s archives.)

Oh, good, we’re getting the Ne-Yo duet as the lead single!

–Collaboration with established star as the lead single, one of the normal launch approaches for R&B artists? Check!

–Launch timed with major promo beyond a single Idol appearance? Check! (And we don’t know what else is in store besides the Glee arc. Magazine promo for early May won’t come out for a month yet.)

–Look for Sanchez that makes her appealing to young people of roughly her own age, rather than to tweens? Check! (And very promising for not dumbing down and tweening-out her music.)

Sanchez’s launch is running on a very solid playbook. This doesn’t guarantee she’ll be OMG!huge but it’s so much more promising than what Interscope seemed to be messing around with last August.
