Jessica Sanchez sang the National Anthem before the Manny Pacquiao vs Timothy Bradley boxing match at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Saturday night.

If you care about the fight: Bradley ended Pacquiao’s long unbeaten run with a controversial split-decision victory over the boxing champ.

Watch Jessica belt it out below.

Jessica met Zayne Malik from One Direction at the game.  “Jessica and Zayne” trended at #1 on twitter worldwide for a time last night.

    Awesome version of the Anthem.

“Instead of the usual 3/4 time, Jessica sang the NA in 4/4.  This version requires holding certain syllables longer than we’re used to hearing
    them.”

Durbesque, I noticed the tempo change and a few note choices – and thought it interesting. Within the parameters of how one can respectfully sing the Anthem, Jessica found something to do with it that sounded fine. I already know she can sing a completely traditional version ( PBS Memorial Day Concert). If the promoters wanted something fresh, and not specifically for people to sing along to – this worked well.

On a shallow note, Jessica looked lovely, eye catching yet age appropriate  dress, (step away from the AI stylists?) and I’m liking the subtle change to the hair – the softer look at the part, with a touch more volume on top is very flattering to the shape of her face…

    JMO. Of Course.

BTW, happy to see a replacement vid – thanks, mj. I missed the HBO one.

Imagine if “Da Vinci” singing this. Lololol. Horror! Maybe he will tweak the melody AGAIN so we wont know what the hell is he singing…Buahahahaha. The commentator and the audience PROVED enough for me this is BEYOND a 16 year old can do. Nicely done. I finally gave in to Jessica, I loved and hated her during AI but this is GREAT. Wow a PRO. ;-)

That’s great, with every new opportunity, Jessica gains new fans.  Jessica is really good with keeping up on her social media sites.  She loves to interact with the fans.  Smart girl.

As much as I love the grit and growl in her voice, I’m glad she held that stuff back for this performance. Proves she can still sound utterly phenomenal without it.

I much prefer the MemorialDay version.
I think it was all determined by the orchestra conductor…the key (G), the meter (3/4), the tempo (energetic).

Her own acapella version…higher key (Bb, too high), meter (4/4, awkward), tempo (dawdling)…
    A self-indulgent mess…I think Simon would agree.

These “Da Vinci” rangers suddenly become music experts. The note should be like, the vibrato is, and all of unnecessary nit picking but when it comes to “Da Vinci” OMG! he’s perfect, the artist!!!. Lololol. “Da Vinci” rangers assemble!!

Oh, if we are talking preferences, so do I, Durbesque. I am very Old School when it comes to the National Anthem…but I’ve heard people make a Hot Buttered Mess of the song before (IMO); I didn’t think this was that bad a choice. I can see where singing the SSB on TV almost back to back may cause someone to look for a fresh approach, doesn’t mean I ever want to hear Jessica do it that way again.

    JMO. Of Course.

ETA “I think Simon would agree.” Cowell’s convenient opinions don’t have relevance for me here (or anywhere)…but I do understand that is your opinion. That’s cool.
