Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Philllips Join Forces for a Radio Shack Promo

I just got a good look at a high quality version of the Radio Shack commercial that stars Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phililp’s song (AND HOPEFULLY NEW SINGLE) “Gone Gone Gone”.

The American Idol runner-up and winner, respectively, have teamed up for a totally epic 20 second promo spot that takes its inspiration from a scene in the classic John Cusack film, Say Anything.

In the 1989 movie, directed by Cameron Crowe, John’s character holds up a huge beatbox that is blasting Peter Gabriel’s passionate ballad, “In Your Eyes”.  The Radio Shack’s contemporary twist has a smitten boy holding up a significantly smaller “The Pill” radio by Beats (That’s Idol mentor and UMG exec, Jimmy Iovine’s company, hence the connection).

The new scene is maybe not QUITE as epic as Cusack’s, but it goes to show in this day and age, you don’t need to be a well-toned kickboxer to woo your lady love. Heh.

…”long after you’re gone, gone, gone.”

OK, Wait. What? Is that long after she’s dead and gone, or did she just blow town and leave him flat?

“Hopelessly devoted”, either way. (TY, Olivia) Heh. That’s depressing…she’s still gone.

But on the bright side, Radio Shack lives on. I guess.

Yeah I noticed that myself when I first say the low quality vid. I was like, oh, that looks like that iconic scene out of Say Anything :)

  • Tinawina

LOL @ Jessica looking like she’s falling asleep while bemused by this poor boy’s antics.

Jimmy is a genius. Killing three birds with one stone.
RadiShack does not have the same emotional impact as Fav 5/Olympic games, but ad runs a lot more frequently than 3 times. I don’t think Too Close got where it is without Microsoft ad.

Ha! Home with a migraine and just heard then saw this commercial and came straight here to see if anybody was talking about it! Loved it – my favorite part is that P2 is given credit on screen so folks can go straight and buy it because it’s a great song. So far it’s the only other song I’ve bought from the album. And yay for Jessica too!
