I agree US XFactor has done poorly with its S1 alums… however here in the UK they know exactly what to do with their pop/dance contestants… just look at the types of single (and success) the likes of Cher Llloyd, One Direction, Little Mix have had… I think Jessica would’ve been better served with those types of songs…

    A few points:

    1) The concept of sexiness is so relative that it is pointless and completely stupid to say somebody is NOT sexy. While you obviously don’t think skinny is sexy, last I checked Victoria Secret’s probably did not have any model with body-mass ratio above 18, were all “skinny girls with a lot of hair and little personality”, and last I checked it is still regarded the most sexy show on Earth. The other day I saw a really old gentleman holding hands with an old lady, probably his wife, telling her she was so sexy that day. I thought that was the sweetest thing ever.

    2) I believe you also posted on a different thread that Jessica is “far from pretty” (I do apologize if it’s not you, but somebody did). That is also another relative concept, some like blondes, brunettes, black, white, Asian, Caucasian, Latino. Some like sweet faces, others more expressive. There are infinite numbers of physical profiles. The fact that one specific combination is not of your preference does not makes somebody “far from pretty”. In my opinion, this kid physically is very cute and a very attractive young lady. I think her (hot) boyfriend would agree, as well as the bunch of magazines that seem to be portraying her in their pages. But I think her real beauty, to the extent to what we can see from her public persona, is her persistence, devotion and willingness to work hard to achieve her dreams. She could be another teen watching TV, bullying other kids or artists in the internet, writing hateful things about other people. She could sit down and do nothing relevant until she becomes an old person who does nothing in life, a serial TV watcher noticing every little bit of flaw that somebody on the TV may have. Yet, this girl is working hard, I think at age of 17 she’s already making money for her family – decent money, as far as I know. She portrays herself as polite and considerate, very humble and appreciative of the opportunities she is given and help she gets from others. If I had a daughter her age, I would consider her a good role model for my child, and that for me makes her beautiful. Very honestly, to say somebody is not beautiful based on physical appearance for me is a huge display of narrowness of mind of somebody who maybe is not so exposed yet to cultural and ethnic diversity.
    3) There is not such thing as “little personality”. I learned in Biology class a long time ago that personality are determinants of personal traits, not a physically measurable organ. She may be shy or gregarious, introverted or extroverted, I will not even bother to list adjectives that define one’s “personality” because it is impossible. I also learned though life and extensive corporate recruiting training that some traits are so hidden that it requires professional psychological evaluation to identify them. So, I really question how can any person determine or judge an artist’s personality through a 5 minute rehearsed performance on TV. I am not a big TV watcher or music follower, but I see a lot of movies. For me, to judge a singer’s personality based on a musical performance is equivalent to judge it based on a movie role. What matters for the quality of the performance and the ability of the artist to convince me, it has really nothing to do with performance. To that point, I was shocked to see an interview with Beyonce, THE Beyonce the other day, first timer for me, and was shocked to find out she is actually a very quiet person. My point: if somebody performs well, who cares about his or her personality.

    4) I am impressed at your skills for being able to identify when an artist is lip syncing. I am really, really, SERIOUSLY impressed. When Beyonce lip synced the National Anthem at Obama’s inauguration, the entire nation watched it on TV or live, and nobody noticed until some band member spilled the beams. And even after that, there was a lag until confirmation came. Experts of all kinds were analyzing the images, and still nobody could tell for sure that she was lip sync-ing. Seriously, if you have such an astonishing ability, you should think about making money with it somehow.

    5) I do not understand what “trying” to dance means. What is the point that a dancer leaves the trial phase and becomes a real dancer? maybe using the dancing with Stars scale, would be when you get an average 8-score? Sorry to ask, I am just confused. My buddies sometimes think they are killing it at the the dance floor, so let me know the scale so that I can rightfully inform them that unfortunately they are just tryers, because the lady who actually shook her booty pretty good in my opinion (and far far better than I will ever do) is still a trier.

My apologies for such a long reply to your short post, but it just made me really confused and some parts are hard to understand for my end-of-long-workweek, approaching Friday night mindset. As per my detailed feedback above, some points are just senseless according to public opinion and most are just conceptually incorrect or impossible. I am not sure if my difficulty to understand your post is due age difference (meaning you are really young and I am an old tart) or regional language accent (I am a hurried New Yorker who sometimes misses the true meaning of what is said in some regional accents). But if you allow me one little feedback so that we can understand each other next time: maybe your overly short note made the tone of it a bit harsh, tending to ill meaning. Thinking that you never meant to be mean or a bully, I do suggest you re-read your posts next time. Reading this, I can not possibly not sympathize with this girl, or her mother. She is just a girl trying to make it in life, a really young girl still in her teens with her head and her values still under construction, probably still dealing with her confused emotions and self image as any teenager. She is also a human being with human feelings. It is not only really hurtful for anybody be called “far from pretty” or un-sexy, but for a teen it can damage her self esteem really badly and leave emotional scars for life. Does she have room improvement? Certainly – or so I hope because the remaining 60 or 70 years she still have left to live will be an ocean of boredom if she reaches perfection at age of 17. I would become suicidal if I did not have anything left to achieve or improve. I concur that as a public figure, she has to get used to public judgement and criticism, but my little exposure to this kind of blogs and tabloid news is now telling me that some people are going a bit beyond what is humanely acceptable, boarder line offensive. My mother taught me to never do to others what I would not like if done to myself. I think this is a good gauge for you and all others to use before posting comments.

Agree. I think Jessica has such a gift with her natural voice that I do get sad to see her voice cluttered with so much background instruments in a clubby song. Selfshly, my favorite way to savor Jessica’s music would be her and a piano doing songs like Stuttering in a smaller venue with perfect acoustics. Unfortunately, music quality these days is gauged by sales, and this kind of stuff just doesn’t sell not close to enough to make a big label happy. She has all the rights – and probably no other alternative other than go this way. I wish her much much luck, hoping success will bring her enough name recognition to one day do a more soulful, artsy album.

My mother taught me that you need to worry about your own self before giving others advice to others about what they should think or feel, because it can come across as being a know it all.

You know, it’s easy to criticize this girl so young into her career. I’m sure if you go back 10 years ago PINK wasn’t “sexy” and I can name so many others young in their singing career….Whitney Houston for example? I can remember the changes that Jennifer Hudson went through to get “sexy” by losing weight. In time, Jessica will be in a “sexy” mode, she’s 18 y.o. for god’s sake, give it a break!
