Get a first look at the trailer of the upcoming film Winnie starring Jennifer Hudson and Terrance Howard.

I’m not sure I’m buying the accents…but I’d have to see the movie to really make an assessment. This is the kind of meaty role that has Oscar written all over it. Jennifer ages from a young girl to a middle-aged woman during the course of the film. You have to check out the makeup job.

Producers plan to premiere the film in January at the Berlin Film Festival and Sundance Film Festival.

I really can’t call on the accents yet cause I’m actually not sure how they are suppose to sound but from what I hear I’m convinced. Do I smell accolades coming for Jennifer in this? More than likely

I buy the accents, but that was possibly the most boring trailer I have ever seen. It was basically a dry, disjointed mini-biography. Surely, they could have edited together something more compelling. The woman has had a fascinating life.

Hmmm..will have to see the movie, but I never bet against Jennifer.

longest. trailer. ever. they need to do another cut of that and bring it down to a minute and a half (just like American Idol! :derp:) right now it feels like something you’ll see on Lifetime or The Hallmark Channel.

that being said, i’m happy for Jennifer. truly one of the most successful idols!

Watching the trailer.. I found myself more interested in Jennifer than the story. Yep. they need an edit.

As a South African myself, I can say the accents are alright. They’re trying at least, but maybe a bit too hard if that makes sense. I agree that the trailer is too low key and too long though, they HAVE to edit it.

ETA: I can say though, in theaters down here, there’ll be some laughing at Jen’s accent. Something about the way she says “hurzband”

Guess I don’t need to go see the movie…the trailer was horribly boring and it really told the whole story. Just saved myself 10 bucks.

It seemed like I was watching a trailer for a lifetime or hallmark movie. That’s not a good thing.

ETA: oops I just read the above comment, well at least i’m not the only one with that opinion.

Not sure if it’s because I’m a history major, but this movie looks really good.

Thank you, nikolaiii for giving your opinion. The person and the history IS serious. I hope somewhere in the film there are moments of joy. Jennifer should probably start thinking about what to wear to the Oscars next year. Good for her!

I’m expecting an Oscar nod for this. I have no problem with the accents. I just watched a video of WInnie speaking earlier this year and it seems to me Jennifer captured her inflections and tone quite well.

The cinematography in this trailer is beautiful. I just hope Winnie is pleased with the end product.

I think the 30 second and 1 minute trailers will be more dramatic but I agree the longer trailer didn’t do that good a job of selling me on the movie. I think the biggest challenge for Jen will be to have the presence of Winnie Mandela. I’ll be checking this out in theaters, definitely. Terence Howard seems like he does a decent job and it’ll be interesting seeing the chemistry between him and Jen.
