First, gossip columnist, Janet Charlton posted an item claiming that Jennifer Hudson was pregnant with the child of her fiance, David Otunga, a Harvard Law graduate and former contestant on “I Love New York 2.” He’s currently starting a career in wrestling. (You read that correctly…)

Then, Jennifer’s peeps shot that down.

Now Essence Magazine is reporting that sources close to Jennifer are reporting that she is, indeed, pregnant.

If she is, she’s probably keeping it under wraps until she’s far enough along that she feels safe to make an announcement.

And, considering that she lost nearly her entire family last October when her sister’s boyfriend allegedly murdered her mother, brother and nephew, it’s understandable if she wants to start a family of her own as soon as possible…

UPDATE: Essence has taken the story down.   To read the full text of the article, click the jump.

Internet rumors have been circulating that Jennifer Hudson is pregnant. While her manager and publicist deny the rumors, two sources close to the Oscar and Grammy winner confirm exclusively to ESSENCE.com that she is indeed expecting. This would be the first child for Hudson.Hudson, who is currently receiving rave reviews while on tour with Robin Thicke, is engaged to David Otunga, a Harvard Law graduate and former contestant on “I Love New York 2.” The couple plans to marry sometime soon, but hasn’t confirmed a wedding date.

Tragedy struck the singer last October when her mother, brother and nephew were murdered. Hudson made a triumphant return to the spotlight on February 1 when she sang “The Star-Spangled Banner” at the Super Bowl. She went on to win her first Grammy Award for best R&B album on February 8.

Hudson is on tour through May 8. Her next show is April 23 at the Fox Theatre in St. Louis, Missouri.

A lot of women guard this information until they’re past the 3 month mark, it’s a shame that celebrities do not get the same consideration. She should have the right to announce it whenever she wants. That annoys me a lot.

On another note – I hope she finds happiness – but I could never marry someone who had kissed that skank New York. And, who the hell graduates from Harvard Law only to be on a bottom-feeder reality show and then venture on into the WWE? that’s just mystifying.

    This.

But, I really hope she’s happy.

oh–and I bet she’s past 3 months. Look at her!

He’s probably just trying to quickly pay off those exorbitant student loans. LOL Seriously, no kidding. What a waste of time and $$$ if he wasn’t interested in pursuing a legal career!

Congratulations to JHud but what is it with these season three girls and wrestling? Didn’t mj post something a few months ago about Diana and TNA performer Jeremy Borash?

Sometimes there is a real benefit to not being stick figure thin when you are out performing and you want to keep a pregnancy under wraps for a bit. If you look at the diva videos from Jennifer’s concert you can see that she is getting a little thick around the midsection. AND GOOD FOR HER she deserves the blessings of a new little life…it will never fill the void of losing those special people she so cruelly lost, but hopefully it will help her look to the future and marvel at the joys the world has to offer.

Blessings Jenn, on you and yours.

In defense of Otunga, I have known others who have attended law school and then decided being a lawyer isn’t for them.

I saw J-Hud and Robin Thicke in concert about three weeks ago and we noticed the little pooch on her belly then. My friends and I speculated that she might be pregnant but it could be that given the stress she has been under since she lost her family, she may have expressed her grief with food.

Guess we’ll have to wait until she makes an official announcement!

Oh, me too. But, a diploma from Harvard Law is like a free ticket to just about any job you want, even completely unrelated to law. So, I’m confused about how someone would pick those options as opposed to the 500 other steady, high paying jobs he would likely be offered that don’t require you making a fool of yourself.

Well we see what Jennifer was doing during this “grieving” process, making babies, instead of being upset over losing so many family members. But then I guess we shouldn’t be surprised seeing how she was “on vacation” when her family met their tragic demise. That’s Jennifer for you, for her it’s all about Me Me Me !!! Seeing how Jennifer says she put all of this behind her, and is ready to move on, I’m sure we’ll be hearing more headlines about her remaining family members since Jennifer will no doubt continue to ignore their troubles just as she did in the past. Heartless Hudson might be Sony Musics role model but I’m afraid its not mind.

    Whoa. Oooookkkaaaaayyyyyyy :huh_tb: :down_tb:

Moving on… congrats to Jennifer! Babies are happy news no matter how you slice it.

  • SpenserJ

Oh My. So, just some random thoughts:

Lots of babies are conceived while grieving. Oftentimes, the need to be close to your partner during trying times, leads to well, you know.

Most of the time, unexpected tragedies occur while you’re off doing something unrelated. Because well, murderers do not typically call you to say “Hey, I’m going to murder your family today”

It is not Jennifer’s responsibility to take care of her adult relatives. I’m sure she would have loved for her sister not to date an abusive ex-con. And, it’s pretty clear she offered her mother multiple opportunities to move out of that dangerous neighborhood. But, you know grownups, we simply cannot make them do what we want.

It is often frustrating to watch our family members make awful life decisions. Those choices usually have fall-out, although thankfully, not quite as tragic as this circumstance. But, the fact of the matter is that we just can’t do anything about it. We just don’t own that responsibility.

I cannot imagine the pain and horror that Jennifer experienced when she lost her family to senseless domestic violence. Her fiance is not someone I know and thus I can’t judge his decisions. What I have seen is that he is totally devoted to Jennifer, and that’s good enough for me. I hope they do have children and create a family to help with the horrible loss in her life. She’s a beautiful, classy lady, and an amazing artist. I wish her the best, always.
