American Idol alum, and movie star, Jennifer Hudson is set to join NBC’s Smash for a multi episode arc when the musical drama comes back to TV at mid-season! She’ll join fellow American Idol alum and series regular, Katharine McPhee who plays Iowa innocent, Karen, currently the star of the Marilyn musical Bombshell.

Jennifer will play Veronica Moore, a Tony-winning Broadway star who impacts Karen and Ivy’s (Megan Hilty) lives.

“We’re thrilled to have Jennifer Hudson coming to ‘Smash,’” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said. “This series is a showcase for some of the best musical talent in the business and that’s a fitting description for Jennifer Hudson. Her character will represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it.”

It’s been a big news day for Jennifer, who also will get a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame next year.

I look forward to seeing Jennifer Hudson appear on “Smash’ with Katharine McPhee.  I like the show.   And I thought Jennifer had some Broadway vibe about her when she was on idol that I liked, and she’s a strong vocalist, and Katharine has a lovely voice. Jennifer was my top favorite her season, and Katherine was my 2nd favorite behind Chris Daughtry their season.  And I’m proud of how those 3 that I supported passionately have done well and become legitimate stars –  idol should be about producing stars even though only a few accomplish as much as they have.
