Jennifer Hudson – “Feeling Good” – New Year’s Rockin’ Eve

Jennifer Hudson debuted her cover of the Nina Simone song “Feeling Good” on last night’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, hosted by Ryan Seacrest on ABC.

If you watch any television at all, you’ve probably already seen Jennifer perform the song in her brand new Weight Watchers commercials.

Happy New Year MJ and everyone.

I don’t know Jennifer since I didn’t watch AI before season 8 but she does have a great voice, just didn’t like that performance. Didn’t like the way she sang the song.

  • JazzRocks

I love JHud. She was my fav in S3. But that was just not very good. Compare it to Adam’s performance on S8. Not even close.

Jennifer Hudson pre-dates my sporadic interest in Idol by a couple of years – and I never heard AL’s version of Nina Simone’s song..but I’m familiar with the original, and I like Nina’s phrasing much better – and Nina’s voice, especially in the higher registers. That’s what I would measure it by.

Gotta say though – she looks great – that’s a very well-designed dress, with a 40’s vibe – that orange creation.

    Oh, and Happy MMXI!

Love the song. Love the dress. Like the arrangement. It’s somewhere in between Nina Simone and the Rat Pack. But, I do like the Muse/Adam version a lot better. Just saying.

    Happy New Year!

I thought it was good! I liked it better than the recorded version especially the end when the background singer chimes in. JHud is an OTT singer and I like it when she gets snipy with the high notes. Still love Nina Simones version though, which I think is set in a much lower key. And Muse and Adams versions are awesome too.

awww she is great! I have seenthat WW commercial and wanted to hear the whole song. She has such an awesome voice and she looks great!

  • Grammie Kari

Glad Jennifer is having time to get her music out there. She does have an amazing voice.

I love this song and have at least half a dozen versions of it on my iPod, but this performance did absolutely nothing for me. She LOOKS fantastic though. Wow. Maybe we should all join Weight Watchers. We’ll get hair extensions, a new wardrobe, and a personal trainer, all for $10 a week, right? ;-)

  • dcglam

Wow, she does look great — probably the best I have ever seen her. I’m not a fan of this performance, though.

  • Elliegrll

I like this performance, and not that it matters, but I like it more than I did Adam’s. It’s also a lot better than the performance that she did of “I’m Here” at the Kennedy Center Honors.

I loved Jennifer’s version. But I also loved Adam’s. Two very powerful singers with great voices. Lots of vocal talent there.

  • cwm

I’ve always liked Jennifer. Wow, she does look really great. This performance was alright for me (for you). I liked Adam’s performance of it much better.

  • superfudge

I would watch the video if not for the fact that this song enrages me and makes my blood boil. I just can’t stand it.

  • loveroftalent

Jennifer looked and sounded great, but I still prefer Adam’s version though. Two amazing talents.

First of all. I love Jennifer. Loved her in her season. Loved her past work. I loved her in Dream Girls and love her that she has lost weight. I think she is bound to top Carrie Underwood in popularity at some point. But I still love Adam’s Feeling Good above all else. :)

Just wanted to add that this girl moves me! But this is Adam’s song. IMO. :)

But this is Adam’s song. IMO.

This song has been performed by many great artists over the years. Nina Simone’s version is probably considered the gold standard to use for comparison.

  • CRB

She looks damn good, I must say. I wish her luck with maintenance.

This is probably true. I also like Michael Buble’s version. It’s just a great song and you have to have a superior voice to pull it off.

But Adam’s version is still the gold standard for me. Surprise, surprise. :)

She looks gooood, but to me, she oversang the song and in the process lost the melody of the song.

  • iFly55

i liked the commercial vs. the live version

  • luvadamlambert

happy new year :) ummm sorry didnt like her version, but i loved the dress!!
