Sunday’s Broadway on Broadway event in New York City kicked off the new theater season and featured a sneak peek of American Idol alums Katharine McPhee and Jennifer Hudson duetting on a version of The Drifter’s “On Broadway” from the upcoming season of Smash.

Katharine stars in Smash as up-and-coming Broadway star, Karen, who snagged the coveted role of Marilyn Monroe in the musical Bombshell from rival Ivy, played by Megan Hilty.

Jennifer is set to guest star as Veronica Moore, a Tony Award-winning Broadway star, who comes into the lives of Karen and Ivy.

Season two of Smash debuts on NBC in January.

Oh man. This is a match made in Idol heaven.

Having JHud do that next to Kat was fun but shows the difference between a star and someone who isn’t,  JHud just brings that extra something something.

I hope those flashbacks are not going to be included in the show. I’m ready for new and improved Smash not a rehash of the previous season.

Can´t wait for Smash season 2!

Kat is vanilla in more ways than one.  I like vanilla, but it needs a sauce, crushed nuts, and whipped cream to make it as interesting as chocolate.

Katharine CAN hold her own next to Jhud and this proves it, their voices mixed so well together, can’t wait for next season!

LOVE IT .. Now they just need to get Adam to the show as himself, a broadway veteran, a pop star and a friend of Megan Hilly. So they can sing Broadway songs together. :)
