Jason Castro’s New Single?

Is it me or is this webcast poor planning by his team? Central time peeps like me will be on the way home from work. East coast peeps will be making dinner. Why not noon or something so we can all ignore work for a minute?

Ahh I don’t think I can be there for his webcast but I’m looking forward to his new single! =)

I don’t think during the work day would really work, or at least not for me. I won’t be there at 6 either so I get the concerns with it being so early, but I couldn’t watch mid day on a work computer either. That would not go over well with my bosses. Ha.

Though I’m sure the webcast will be recorded and available. It was last time he did one. So if you miss it you can watch anytime. You just won’t get the news live.

When I saw him singing Daydream in the top 24 week, I was hooked, I hope his music is great. That picture is beautiful and so is he.

Is Let’s Just Fall in Love Again the title of his single? Or his album? It’s pretty funny either way, coming from a guy releasing his album more than a year after his season ended. I’m ready to fall in love with him again!

Both his parents and sibs have dark hair. A couple of weeks ago his parents had their 25th wedding anniversary and his mom posted an old wedding picture. Jason looks a LOT like his dad when he was younger. And if you look at Jason’s old prom picture – pre dreds – he’s got black hair.

Great picture. Weird seeing him with dark hair because the pictures I’ve seen, it was so much lighter, but he looks great here with the darker hair. I hope his music is good as well, and that he’s a success. I caught a YouTube of his Hallelujah and liked it and I have friends who are fans of his. So yeah, I’m rooting for him.

Really? I didn’t even realize Michelle had an opening act (I avoid things at the Grove, for personal reasons lol). Durn, my Wednesday is already full of choices (including a Glitter/From Justin to Kelly double bill that nobody but me cares about). Hrmm.

I really hope the single/new stuff is good. I want him to succeed and I’d also just really like to see a non 19 artist do well with a major label. It also seems like Atlantic is really behind him. Plus Jason’s just so excited. He comes off like a kid in a candy store.

I too thought the name of the single (album?) seemed rather appropos, especially paired with that picture. I think Atlantic knows what they’re doing. They know those eyes are going to sell a few downloads all on their own.

His eyes look like an alien. And not a glittery alien from planet Fierce. Just an alien. Like Data from Star Trek.

Cool that he didn’t dye his hair and that’s his natural color. It’s beautiful with his eyes. I really do hope this CD is successful for him. I had wondered what happened to him. I’ll be glad to hear his voice again.

Boy I’m gonna hear it for this but I don’t like that picture at all. Luv me some Jason, just not that picture. As someone who restores and retouches pictures-this one is very much overdone. Maybe I just need to see a larger image but that one bothers me. With an image like Kelly’s recent singles-those images weren’t meant to be realistic……this is supposed to be a natural image, in my opinion, but it is over- retouched. His face looks a little bit like putty and that happens when you over- use your retouching tools. Jason is naturally pretty and someone just got over excited working on his hotness. Retouching is one thing but it should be believable. ok……sorry but it’s just my opinion.

ah, jason, i’ve missed you!

He looks like a Greek God – just gorgeous! I went to the Season 7 concert for one reason, and that is Jason Castro. I bought his photograph, and although I have Anthony Fedorov’s cards, Jason is the only photo I have.

In the photo, his dreads have blonde running through him. I was sad that his eyes looked green rather than blue. I agree, the above photo does have a bit too much retouching. In my photo, Jason has such a beautiful smile.

I can’t wait to hear his single/CD. I want it to be a huge success so AI will invite him to perform on the show!

I am looking forward to Jason’s CD, he was one of my favorites last year. (I loved both the David’s too) He has such a distinct voice. It’s really quite beautiful. He just seemed like such a sweet guy on the show. It felt so mean the way they threw him under the bus. One of the reason’s I won’t miss Paula this coming season.

Hope he does really well, and get’s good promotion. ….And yeah, he is quite pretty to look at.

Agree with all you said, . I was so excited that he and Phil Stacey, who is another favorite of mine, had met earlier this year at the Well Done Awards. Brother Michael was performing that night, with Phil headlining. They had done a cute youtube video, where Jason’s sister said she had voted for Phil, lol. Jason was driving, and at the time said that the release of his album would be in the fall, and to be on the lookout. Our comps have been giving us trouble, in part to a bad storm, so I may not be able, either, to tune in to the chat. I hope to read the transcripts, though.

I forgot what a beautiful young man he is. He was my favorite last year – Jason and Brooke. Brooke’s CD didn’t pull me in to buy, but hopefully Jason’s will….that photo sure as hell is working hard…

Last year John Travolta, this year Elvis, unreal. I love Jason, I voted for him like crazy last year. Hated when he left, alto he was ready. He wasnt ready to handle the stress of 2 songs, but I hated not seeing him on my TV. I love this picture, AI sure has dug out some beautiful people. I wouldn’t worry about the timing of his webcast. It’s a good time for students who I suspect are his main audience and it should be available for viewing/listening to later.

What a great photo, very stylized. I fell in love with Jason on the show, loved his song choices and the arrangements he chose to do (whether he originated them or not didn’t matter to me). I love his relaxed, easy-going approach to life (which I wish I had more of) and his musical sensibilities. I’ll be waiting to see what he says by reading it here and I think we’re lucky to have mj’s to so easily find things like this. MJ provides an important service to Idol fans so thanks mj.

I hear you, but when it comes to love songs, a little cheese is acceptable to me. Think of recent songs that worked, like “I’m Yours,” “Lucky,” in fact here’s a list I just found of modern love song titles

When it comes to love, sometimes cliches are okay, so I’ll wait and hear the song because the title doesn’t turn me off, but of course ymmv. I mean Over the Rainbow is cheesy but when given a new arrangement (by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole) it doesn’t sound cheesy at all. It is hard to sing about love without falling back on the same old phrases, but again, I hear ya but I’ll also wait and hear the song before deciding.

I don’t know if this is as touched up as you think it is. When I saw Jason up close I couldn’t get over his skin and his eyes. The eyes were the most beautiful piercing, deep, aqua blue. And his skin, I told some friends, the most perfect I had ever seen. He almost glowed!
This is coming from an ordinary fan. My two favorites, last year were Cook and Michael.

Of course the picture is stylized and touched up, but it still looks like Jason, so it works IMO. If you look at the close-up of the pic, you can still see his freckles, so I agree I’m not sure it’s quite as touched up as people think. I’m sure they enhanced the eye color, but his eyes are pretty shockingly blue all on their own. That and his features have always been a bit on the pretty side (dare I say feminine). Especially once they put make-up on him.

I think most love songs and titles are cheesy, so I’m in wait and see mode. Hopefully Atlantic knows what they are doing. I’m curious not only what the single is, but who it was co-written with.

Jason Castro is a gorgeous man all the way around inside and out! His teeth are perfection! LOL! I’m really looking forward to his music.

I think it’s a cool representation of David (the picture) and it’s just one of many possible ways of styling him. He’s a beautiful man and would be fun to photograph and style. It’s just one picture, not the one and only final say on him, I would love to see him do photo layouts in magazines and hopefully that will happen in the future. I really really hope he has a hit song so he can do all that.

Im liking this new single. its got the “Mraz-y” feel to it.

It’s very catchy. I can easily see it all over HAC. I guess it depends on the label support, but that seems to be good so far. I think his marketing is a no-brainer, actually.

I actually liked the second song he sang on the webcast better. Because it was delayed, I was able to catch the end of it.

I liked the song, and looking forward to the album. I think the song is very radio friendly and will get Jason noticed…..and that is a good thing. Happy for him!

I’m not sure what I personally think of the song yet, but it’s certainly radio friendly and with the right support I think he will get some radioplay, which I suppose is really what the label is going for right now. It’ll be interesting to see how it is received.

Just listened to his new single. It’s very, um…sunny. Yeah, sunny! It’s ok, but somehow it feels like it should be part of a Target or JC Penney commercial, rather than something on the radio. IDK…that’s just my own opinion. I’m sure other people will love it more.

I’ll give it another listen from a better system, but can’t say that I’m thrilled with it. I’m really kind of sad about it—I loved both Brooke and Jason during Season 7, as my user name would probably indicate, but none of their singles has grabbed me. Sigh. Hope I end up liking this song better than I currently do, or that I like the rest of the CD more than it….

I think he said the first week or two of September for radio. No idea when it’s going to iTunes and the like. I agree it would have been perfect for summer, but I guess end of summer will have to do.

I also would agree the second song he sang was probably the better song and more poignant, but I would see how this would more suitable for radio.

I never thought I would enjoy a Jason Castro song, I’m not into folk, but this song it’s fresh, happy and fun, I really like it.

In some parts his voice sounds like the Jonas Brothers (don’t know which one) in the higher notes.

And yes, this has commercial potential and I would’ve preferred it to be realeased in the summer, but who knows, hopefully it will run good.

I kind of loved the song. Surprised myself because I wasn’t crazy about anyone from Season 7, especially not Jason. I think it’s just because I can’t not like cheerful songs. The whistling sucks though. As does the single cover, kinda.

He’s the reason I keep checking back here hoping for news (plus MJ knows everything going on), as I didn’t have a real horse in the race last year and Jason was the last idol contestant who got me excited enough to vote. Jason was my favorite contestant on Idol season 7, or ever really—the only one that caused me to want to vote, or go on tour, or buy an album. My Jason mixed album of pre idol and idol songs is still on heavy rotation in my CD player. I wasn’t able to watch last night, but I did hear the single, and while I thought it was really good and catchy, it wasn’t what I was expecting from him. I would have preferred “Love Uncompromised” or “Sweet Medicine” to be his first single—that is the Jason I absolutely love. I was scared when he came out with this album that some of what I love about him would be lost due to being “overly produced” if that makes sense? I love Jason’s beautiful and simple style of singing and writing—he is so unique—and to me this sounded kinda like what is out on the radio everywhere today. (I guess that is good for sales, but not for my own selfish needs–LOL)

I am a HUGE fan of Jason, and am sure the album will be amazing though, and I will always be a huge fan of his.

It’s so good to be talking about Jason again—as good as Kris and Allison and Adam were, none of them came close to Jason (in my (probably very small) opinion… LOL = )

Listening to the unplugged webcast version of it, I was immediately thinking Arlo Guthrie and what a throwback the song was. I then listened to the mp3 version at http://www.jasoncastromusic.com and liked the full version much better. Very college radio sounding. Kind of a Plain White Tee’s feel to it mixed with, weirdly enough, Josiah Lemming, lol. I could definitely imagine hearing this on my towns college radio station.

Unfortunately these days I think if you are going for radio play (and I have no idea how this will do for Jason) you have to fit a certain poppy mold. I like songs like Love Uncompromised, but I don’t think that would likely ever get much industry/radio attention.

I do think this stands out just because Jason’s recorded voice is unique enough to make it interesting. But we shall see. I can see younger females eating it up though.

I agree Brie—this song will definitely fit to a larger crowd than Love Uncompromised or Sweet Medicine–it almost reminded me of the Jonas Brothers as someone mentioned above. It is definitely more of what is popular today. I’m not a huge fan of radio, and usually gravitate more towards lesser known artists (like Brett Dennen or Ray Lamontagne)–and I just have such high expectations for Jason because we’ve all seen what he can do—and I was just hoping for a little more along the lines of what we have seen all along. I figured though when he got signed with a large label that his style may change and go more in the direction of pop. I just hope he does stay true to himself in the process.
The song is good—don’t get me wrong—and Jason’s voice sounded AMAZING—and it has a good sound for radio. This will be better for Jason to go in this direction I guess, at least for now, to get his name out there more. I want Jason to get the exposure he deserves—I am just being greedy, and want what I want—LOL

I agree with you Dawn. I’m not a radio listener myself, for most of the reasons you said. But I do think if Jason wants a decent shot, especially with a major label, he would have to do this type of stuff first and then once he establishes himself he can cross over into whatever else he wants to do.

I do think there is a good shot Sweet Medicine might be on the album though. He seems to love that one and it’s usually the default song that he plays these days, so I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see that one make the cut.

I can understand the comparisons to Jonas Bros. song Lovebug (don’t ask me why I know that) in terms of style, but that’s the only JoBros comparison I see. I’ve also heard a few Monkees comparisons.

I agree with you 100% Brie—and I think that this album will be a little more mainstream, but still with the Jason we have come to love and know over the past couple of years.

I had JUST stumbled across that interview and was about to post it myself! = ) Very good interview—one of the best I’ve seen on Jason. I am very excited about the album, and it is amazing to see how much Jason has grown since Idol. It sounds like there are going to be some really good songs on the album. Even though I only listened to the new single maybe twice last night, it has completely taken over my mind—I can’t get it out of my head…so that’s a good sign! = ) Many of his songs are like that though—very catchy, he is definitely a skilled writer.

I just wish Jason much luck and success, and I hope he can prove some people wrong that didn’t believe he could do it.

Oh—-did I read it wrong in the interview, or did Jason say that the full length version of Hallelujah was going to be on the album?

But what is up with the overpriced fan club stuff? 399 dollars?!?!?!? Seriously? That’s so unreasonable. Even Carrie Underwood doesn’t have that expensive fan club membership fees.

Fearbear-I thought the same thing about the pricing! I mean I would absolutely love to have a meet and greet with Jason, don’t get me wrong—-but I don’t know about everyone else, but I don’t have $400 lying around. That type of thing would probably appeal more to younger fans, and I definitely don’t know of anyone in that age range esp. who would have the money for it. It seemed a little high to me too—I think for that price I would want a date with Jason. = ) Now add that to it, and we might have a deal—LOL

Well you do get to have a phonecall with Jason and personalized voicemail as well as a bunch of crap most of us don’t need. I don’t know. I agree on excessive pricing, but I don’t think that’s necessarily the fan club price. I think these are just pre-ordering packages and then at some point they will put up other things like a simple fanclub membership. This seems more like a deluxe pack of things that happens to include fan club membership.

Well yeah the standard pack is around 29 dollars only, but there will still be some gullible fans out there who will take on this offer and I think that this kind of pricing is taking advantage of those loyal fans. And it’s the biggest sign on the store so it kinda really catches your attention and I was really taken aback coz I’ve never seen this kind of fan pack pricing before in any celebrity website.

there are diff pre-order packages available…that $399 one is to get everything …even a meet and greet with Jason…if you just want to pre order the album you can get the $9.99 package. I’m pretty sure these packages are just album pre-order packages and have nothing to do with his fan club.
