There’s no formal announcement yet, but asute fans have noticed that Jason Castro updated his My Space page with some new info.

HARD8 MGT. is listed as his current management.   The company’s roster includes recording artists Augustana, Dashboard Confessional, Jakob Dylan and Shooter Jennings among others.   Not an A list of clients, but a nice, comfortable B list–a nice fit for Jason, as he embarks on his new career.

He’s also listing entertainment attorney, David A. Helfant, as his legal representation.

Fan chatter has Jason currently in New York on business.   Sounds like Jason’s career is moving in the right direction…

ETA:   Jason’s testimony to his faith in this video from iamsecond.com is both eloquent and moving. Make sure to watch it.   Plus, here’s a short vlog from Saturday’s concert in Tulsa.

Go Jason! Really like the guy and wish him much success.

  • soundscene

That’s great for Jason! I think he could put out an awesome album–definitely something I would be into.

  • kimconmom

Thanks, M.J. for the update! Things are moving at a comfortable pace for Jason. Concert last week at the Flytrap, concert in nine days in Garland with Patti LaBelle, management signage on myspace, etc. Looking forward to the EP supposedly being released in the next month or so. What a great Christmas gift to his fans! Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Sounds like Jason’s been getting all his ducks in a row. Good for him! Looking forward to his music!

  • brie200

I do get a kick out of the fact that Dylan’s son has the same management as Jason.

There was also a short vlog posted yesterday, but it’s really from before his Tulsa gig. Very short, but he’s giddy.

  • jersey

Yay! This does seem like a good fit for Jason. Looking forward to some music!

  • luckeee55

This is exactly the right first step for Jason. Smallish, as you say B-list, management firm. Jason will need to start small and work up. He is not ready for any type of splash in the music business yet and hopefully this mgmt firm will work with him to bring him along at his own pace and get him ready for bigger things. I wish him as much success as he wants to handle. He is definately talented in an organic way, but needs much direction at this point.

  • KrazeeK120

Yay for Jasonnn!!!! Sounds like a good group that this firm is managing. I hearttttt Dashboard Confessional!!

  • LK08

    Congratulations to Jason!

Oh I love this for him, start him out small, get him lots of training before throwing this nice man to the wolves.

  • brie200

The thing with Jason is I’m not really sure how big of a splash he wants to make. He’s a bit of an enigma really. I know he wants a music career obviously. He wouldn’t have done Idol otherwise, but I’ve never really been convinced he’s looking for an A-list career necessarily. He seems more like the guy who would be happy as long as he can make a decent living doing what he loves, even if that means he’s B-list or C-list or whatever. Just in the sense that I could never seem him being the guy who is on the red carpet every night or promoting music videos on MTV or etc.

But I do agree with everyone that this sounds like a good step and probably the right sort of company for him at this time. A company that is small enough to give him the attention he needs.

In case anyone is having a hard time viewing the original I Am Second video, it is also on youtube now…

Just in the sense that I could never seem him being the guy who is on the red carpet every night or promoting music videos on MTV or etc.

I’m sure that’s why he was in a MTV show to begin with… cause he doesn’t want to be on MTV… And I don’t see why Jason wouldn’t like his video to be on MTV…

I think musicians want their music to be listened by the most people possible. Come on, who can’t say no? I doubt he wants to be a C-list. Now, if you tell me he’ll be happy to be a C-list as long as he does that for living, yeah, I’ll agree. Doesn’t mean he doesn’t want more than that. The more people want your music the better, no? Jason is no different from the rest of musicians out there, or people. Just like he was no different from the other contestants on the show, they all wanted to win, Jason included.

Anyway, I think this is great for him. Right step to go, find a good management. It’s what he needs, experience people helping him.

  • Jolene

Quick question – out of the unsigned Season 7 contestants, who has official management? Carly and Jason? Does Michael have something? I’ve been slacking off in following my other favorites, I’m afraid to say…

  • dante

Glad to hear this news about Jason. I heart him!!!! Great video too.

  • brie200

leome, I’m not saying there is anything wrong with being on MTV or that Jason would never want to have a video played on MTV. Yes, I know technically he’s been on MTV with Cheyenne, but I don’t think that was much a planned career move on his part so much as something that just got thrown in his path and he went with it. You might feel differently.

I also agree with you that the more people that hear someone’s music the better. All musicians want people to hear their music. Same way all musicians want success.

What I’m trying to say isn’t coming out right, so I’m leaving it alone.

Jolene, I’m not sure on MJ either. He’s announced everything else so I feel like he has to have announced management too. Outside of that I believe Carly and Jason are the only ones who have given specific info.

  • elisad

Good for him too. Augustana? Yes~

  • leome

What Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m trying to say isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t coming out right, so Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m leaving it alone.

Oh, I didn’t want to make you feel bad or anything. Sorry if I did.
For what’s worth I think Jason couldn’t be happier with things right now, and I think that’s what matters. He’s trying to make the best out of his experience and this is clearly a step in the right direction. He’s probably not the guy of red carpets (say like MJ), but It’s something that he’ll probably have to embrace to get to where he wants to be, MTV, magazines, all that jazz… it helps.
If what you’re trying to say is that for him sucess doesn’t mean beeing A-list, I agree with that. Clearly doesn’t.

  • brie200

No worries leome. What you just said sounds about right. Fully agree.

  • primeminister

It’s nice to see Jason open up about his faith, and who know he would be so eloquent? I’m wondering how long that video took to make. haha ;)

  • emwcee

What a great video on iamsecond. I applaud Jason for having the courage to post it. I knew there was something special about the song “Hallelujah.” It’s because he sang it from the heart. I’m looking forward to following Jason in his career.

  • davidlove

So happy to see Jason moving forward. His I Am Second vid is truly inspiring, he’s much deeper than I imagined. It will be interesting to see if he goes on to perform inspirational music, Christian rock, or mainstream songs. Give us all ya got, Jason!

“Jason is no different from the rest of musicians out there, or people. Just like he was no different from ”

Just watching that video “I am second” shows me just how unique and different Jason is compared to a lot of musicians out there. Brie had it right, Enigma, crazy but I was just thinking this before I opened this blog up today. Whatever he does I hope he does well and makes himself as happy as he has made us

  • Grammie Kari

What a great first move for Jason. I am so happy for him. Now, I hope his management team will see to it that he works with a vocal coach to help him with his breathing and what to do to take care of his voice. He can only get better!

  • Jae

I agree with most of you that Jason is def doing things the right way and finding a fit that is best for him. He can do the John Mayer, jason Mraz thing. His management team needs to nurture him along. A big company like 19 would dump him if he didn’t sale 5 million albums in a year and rush him before he grew into himself as an artist and musician. I think Jason is still finding himself musically in someways and that we will see amazing things from him in the next few years. I am glad though that he is taking great advantage of his “15 mins of fame” and staying in the public eye, getting his EP together. That is savvy. He understands that this is his moment. Not his only one but a an important one. That article on ex-Idols really brought that home for me.
