Optimism abounds in Jason Castro’s colorful new music video for his single “Only a Mountain.” The season 7 American Idol alum will be touring with the Christian mega tour, Winter Jam, along with Toby Mac, Sidewalk Prophets, Newsong and more.

    There’s something about Jason’s voice – I love the tone of his voice and the genuine passion expressed when he sings. I hope he does well with his new song.

    This song is Top 20 on the Christian radio chart, so it’s doing pretty well.

    I like both songs, but Colton’s more.

    Castro’s song is past any initial fan-buying surge it may have had and is holding its iTunes position based on Christian AC radio play. Dixon’s song was just released to iTunes today and is therefore in the midst of its fan surge, but too early in its radio career for radio to be contributing a lot of purchases. Very different points in the buying arc of the songs… and I don’t know what the iTunes peak for Castro’s song was, or if enough of his Idol fanbase followed him to CCM for there to have even been a fan-buying surge.

    It seems a very Castro-like song, and probably the closest thing in CCM that I’ve heard to this year’s sunny teen-pop sound (though I listen to KLOVE only for sampling purposes, so I haven’t heard everything).

    I just saw Jason in concert and he has truly become a great performer as well as a great songwriter and singer.  This song refers to faith that moves mountains and that IS something to be optimistic about!

    Oh my goodness – I love Jason!  He remains my favorite male contestant from American Idol.  This is a great song and I just find him adorable.  I hope it is a big hit for him!

    Jason’s song has been out for quite awhile already.  It’s not like it was just released to itunes.  I love Jason and would never argue that he’s burning up the charts, but he seems to have found his niche and is doing pretty well all things considering.  I wish Colton every success, but I find it hard to compare someone that pretty much just came out of out the idol bubble to someone that was on four/five seasons ago.

    For the record: “Only a Mountain” reached #3 on iTunes Christian and Gospel chart on Aug. 7, the day it was released.

    It’s currently #22 on the reconfigured Billboard Christian songs chart, and #20 on the Mediabase Christian songs chart as reported by America’s Music Chart. I’d call that doing well for a song that’s been out a while.

    I recently bought The Wow Christian compilation double CD at a Sydney Christian store & I was pleasantly surprised to find this song on the 1st CD [hopefully Colton's song will be on next years] . Its a song that’s really easy to listen to. 

    I’ve just checked & Jason’s album is available on i-Tunes here in Australia & so is Colton’s single -something which hasn’t happened with a lot of previous idols. Maybe being involved with Christian music makes it more accessible here [ie not as restricted as being with a large secular label?]
