This is exactly what I expected from my AI7 favorite, Jason — a simple, heartfelt lyric sung with conviction. It has the same groove and vibe as Knocking on Heaven’s Door.

I am so happy that Jason gets to do what he truly loves. I will be buying and watching.

Of all Jason’s songs we’ve listened to, this is the only one I kinda like. I’m glad he’s playing this one instead of the medicine song.
And I agree, the other guy singing didn’t do any favor to the song.

Love the song. Glad to see something of Jason — I was worried about him.

I like it. Needs a little work, but I definitely think that Jason’s style is very identifiable. He’s got a Ben Harper/Jack Johnson kind of vibe that doesn’t require perfect vocals. Simple melodies and sweet, genuine lyrics are all he needs. Oh, and that adorable face doesn’t hurt! Good for Jason.

I really like this and will be buying it. It is quite beautiful. Terrie had a very good observation in that it does have a similiar “feel” to Knocking on Heaven’s Door. I liked the back-up of the 2′nd vocalist. Last season the talent was so great, and one of the things AI is doing right this year, is featuring the former talent on the show. I don’t think they did this in past years, but I am not certain. It makes sense to promote these talents from last year, because the more successful they are, the more credible the show appears.

I’ll be a dissenter and say I LOVED the accompaniment, esp. when they switched it up at the end and Jason did the higher part and the other guy the lower. I think the other guy’s voice is a good blend with Jason’s, and I like the lead guitar interval. Good for Jason — he seems to have grown as an artist. Does anyone think he would have made it this year, sans guitar? Shows the stupidity of the format this year, grrrr…

Go Jason! This song is exactly what I hoped for from him. The guy’s incredibly talented and I love this kind of music.

p.s. To answer someone’s question, Idol Wrap is on the TV Guide channel at odd days and times. It seems to me that it’s on Monday and Sundays here on the East Coast, but I wouldn’t count on it. The way I find it is to dvr record “any time on this channel” and then they all come up and I can find out when it’s on.

I bought Brooke’s song & will buy this one too. I’m eager to hear the recorded version of this song because the other guy’s part didn’t sound right to me. Jason’s voice was great though. I’m guessing the iTunes version will be a better mix of the voices.

This song is LOVE. I could do without the backup singer, it’s a bit too AI-recording for me, haha. (“Somewhere Over the Rainbow” recording, anyone?) I cannot wait for tomorrow to get here!

Jason is heaven! Pure heaven. This boy is an angel, and when he sings it just melts my heart! Sorry! Usually I’m not this sappy but it’s the truth. I will buy anything this boy is selling! This song is amazing! and yes if you can check out the version from his Tulsa performance it’s much better! If that is possible!

I wonder if AI will let Jason bring his own duet artist, or if he has to hurriedly rehearse it with AI’s singers who will be hidden.

I like the accompaniment too, as long as the mic volumes are adjusted. To me that’s the real problem. This is the first time I’ve ever seen him perform the number without the rest of the band. But we’ll see whether AI lets him bring on his own people. At this point I’ve heard the song so much, I can’t even judge anymore. Hope things go well for him Wednesday night.

Aw, I love Jason. He has a smooth, understated style that I really like. This years’ contestants should take a page out of his book: sometimes less is more.

I heart Jason. There must be a law against a male being this “pretty.” Anyway, I can’t get that chorus out of my head. I do think his rendition was better at FlyTrap though. Not sure I like the other singer.

Jason is Love!!!!! I will be buying this and am looking forward to seeing him on Idol this week. His voice is beautiful and I “feel” his music just like with Taylor, David Cook, and so far Adam Lambert (still pretty early in the game with him though). I have liked many of the other idols, but Jason is in my top 3 when it comes to connecting with his songs. Hope we hear more from him.

He and his mom are going to make a ton of money on iTunes sales this week because of the AI appearance but the song is a sappy hallmark card waiting to happen.

Ok – so I found the Tulsa performance at the Flytrap and listened to not only this song, but the other songs he performed as well. After listening, I don’t understand why Jason doesn’t have a record contract yet. His sound is very unique and quite beautiful. His interpretation of lyrics seem very personal and heartfelt. During his season, I liked him, but didn’t feel particularly moved to vote for him. He won me over when I saw him on the tour. I think this song could be a big hit. I hope for him that it is. It would be a shame for this lovely voice not to be heard.

Laurie–He said on Idol Wrap he’s closing negotiations on a record deal at present. Maybe he already has since. Not sure.

I absolutely love Jason’s voice. He might not have the perfect vocals but he brings such emotion into his voice which beats a perfectly sung song. I’m waiting to buy his music.

Jason did a great job as guest commentator on the show. The videos of him commenting are also on YouTube.

Seeing Brooke and Jason makes me nostalgic for last season. Sob. The two Davids, Jason, Brooke, MJ, Syesha, Carly, so much good last season. Idol seemed to be welcoming artists, songwriters, and musicians, not just vocalists, but it seems like they are back to the old forumula this season, with no instruments allowed etc.

I am loving having the people back from last year. Can’t wait to see the rest, especially David Cook.

I will buy any cd that Jason puts out.

Some bad news….after most of his fans have been waiting to midnight to get his song, this was posted on the front page of his official site:

Things are moving a mile a minute in lots of different directions. Turns out Jason won’t be on Idol this week and the song won’t be on iTunes tomorrow. We know this is not what you want to hear, BUT there’s really great news coming soon. We know how excited everyone was for the big week, but it simply wasn’t possible to have him on Idol due to time constraints. AI and Jason are looking forward to a future appearance if scheduling permits. Consider all of our preparation an amazing dress rehearsal for the real deal when it happens. So no Jason on Idol and no song on iTunes….at least this week. I have no idea what’s going on, but I can only assume it’s a record label issue? Also no idea who is going to perform on Wed., if anyone.

This is confusing, disappointing and somewhat mysterious considering how last minute this announcement is. I hope Jason fares well in all of this. I’m beginning to think Jason and Idol are a bad fit. Or maybe they are bringing his brother back in the wild card round. Now that would be a storyline! lol!

I actually don’t think the problem was Idol and even though most of the people who do know can’t say anything for certain, they claim it’s not an issue with Idol or TPTB.

I think the real issue is the timing with his record label. As annoying and disappointing as this all is, my guess is that this release was going to be independent because there wasn’t time for a real single release from the record label before his supposed appearance. Now that his negotiations are supposedly done, more than likely this is in part a decision made in part by the label so they can launch a real single. Of course the whole thing could have been handled better, but oh well…

I was wondering how they’d fit him in and announce the wildcards… I’m guessing they will be announcing the wildcards on Wed if they’re performing on Thurs.

But, at the same time, it’s weird that Idol would offer it up and then pull the plug. Even weirder that he can’t put the song on iTunes anyway.

If there’s a done deal with a label, why is there no announcement? I hope this isn’t all wishful thinking.

I don’t see how a label could be wishful thinking when he has specifically said that he is “closing negotiations with a record label” which is what he said on Idol Wrap. I mean, I don’t see Jason having much a history of lying about these things, so that’s not even an issue for me. It’s not like he’s going around saying he’s “taking meetings” still. And obviously if he’s spreading he’s signing with a label, he knows it would come back to bite him in the ass if not true.

Plus as said in earlier posts, he’s attending the WBR Records Grammy parties, hanging out with their artists–I still maintain he is signing with one of their labels.

But honestly, I’m not sure if his deal is completely signed. Maybe hence why no actual annoucement yet.

pj, I think negotiations just take awhile in general. For one thing, Jason has a top entertainment lawyer on his side. Somebody with tons of industry experience, so I can’t see his lawyer letting him negotiate for things he would never get in a first time contract. See his myspace for that info.

Brooke is still in label negotiations, so there’s not much difference. Her single was released independently and while she has management announced, she’s been talking about being in label negotiations for quite awhile.

But I don’t know…if he says he’s closing negotiations then it sounds like it’s about done. Call me naieve, but I believe him. I know deals fall through all the time, but I really don’t think that’s the issue here.

Speaking of Brooke, I noticed her song was still hanging at 13 earlier this evening. I would think something like that would HELP negotiations. But if he’s close to signing on the dotted line, maybe not.

I think 19abc might be less likely to let him promote a single after he’s been signed by a competitor. They did let Elliott perform, so who knows?

^^Elliott is technically with Sony though. If he signs with one of the other big 4 major labels, I’m not gonna bet on it. I’m not seeing them having Josiah Leming guest in one of their upcoming episodes. If he signs with an independent label, they might guest him still.

They do let major record artists from other labels guest though (Mariah, afaik is not under Sony) but that might be a different matter because she is Mariah after all.

Why would a record label stop him from getting free publicity on AI? His mom shut down all promotion of the appearance yesterday so she knew something was up. Sounds more like there was a screw up with getting the song on iTunes, maybe Jason and his team didn’t submit everything on time. If that’s the case it looks terribly unprofessional and won’t do much to get rid of his Stoner J reputation.

I agree with you. Since Jason was not going to be on Idol Wednesday night, putting the song up on iTunes, without promo, would not have been wise. It would just be wasting the song. Best to wait until a better time.

I think that the info just leaked too soon. Since all of the details had not been finalized, the info was probably not supposed to have been released for public knowledge until this week, probably Tuesday, but the info leaked last Friday. Had the info not gotten out too soon, this would have just been another week for Jason’s fans. Brooke did not announce her AI appearance and song on iTunes until the day of or the day before she was on the show.

Unfortunate things happen. I think that the show’s time constraints may have had something to do with it. They will probably use the extra time to introduce the Top 9 and to announce the names of the ones chosen for the Wild Card show Thursday night.

I know that AI can’t/won’t bring Michael back for the Wild Card show but since he flew to Los Angeles Monday, it would have been cool to imagine it happening.

I don’t think you’re a bad Jason fan, . As an Ace Young fan, I and his other fans have had to hang in there 2 years before Ace’s cd was finally released. It was quite discouraging, and we have had quite a few times of bickering back and forth about whether he is doing all he can to get the cd out or not. We were not getting that many details. Ace had often said during that time that the cd was almost done, and it was almost 2 years later that it was. I don’t know of all the behind-the-scenes stuff, but it is true that deals fall through and there can be all kinds of delays and snags and such. It is hard to keep up, but hang in there. If I have had to wait 2 years, I can wait for Jason, and I don’t think it will take that long.:-)

Yeah, I think that’s the thing. As disappointing as it is, it’s the music biz, setbacks happen. I don’t think the label stopped Jason from appearing, but perhaps they killed the itunes release? Maybe AI just decided they had no time for a musical guest this week. I know WC is Thursday, but are they announcing the wildcards on Wed’s show perhaps?

Many Idol fans have had to wait far longer for music from Idols. In the morning light, I tend to agree with gabam. The info was originally retracted from his site because it was leaked too soon. I think this was more an issue of somebody jumped the gun over there at announcing things before finalized, got their hands slapped, they retracted the info, but by then it was too late.

I have to agree with gabam that his fans would be having a pretty normal week right now if none of that info had leaked in the first place.

Csfan, I disagree with the notion that Jason or any other Idol would need to be telling fans that they are signing a record deal when they’re not. There are other ways of keeping fans hanging in there and he’s been doing a pretty good job of that on his own. I also disagree that I think it was a iTunes snafu.

Any label that keeps an artist from an AI appearance is insane. Ditto not allowing the song to go to iTunes. There is nothing that compares to doing your music on that show. I can’t imagine what actually is going on here.

I think maybe there will be no performance on AI after all (probably no time since there may be a lot of things for them to finish in the results show) so AI canceled his appearance. As it makes no sense to release a single without getting to perform it on AI, they canceled the song going up on iTunes as well. Just my conjecture.

The thing is that this could be his last chance to actually perform on AI. I don’t see them having him during the finals, with so many idols and other artists to have there.
But we’ll see.

I’ll leave it at that. But I agree with hardkandy that if the AI appearance was cancelled by AI, then I understand killing the single since what’s the point of releasing a non official single without the AI appearance. But I’m done speculating because who the hell knows. I’m just curious as to whether there will be any musical guest tomorrow night.

If AI canceled the appearance wouldn’t they just say so? This seems more like Jason pulled out on AI at the last minute because he couldn’t get his song on iTunes. The timing of the announcement, five minutes before it was supposed to be on iTunes STRONGLY suggests they were trying until the last minute to get the song there in time and somebody messed up. No iTunes, no AI. I expect the official story from Betsy to either be very vague or to point the finger at anybody except Team Castro.

I saw him on Idol Wrap and honestly, that was plenty. Let’s hope this isn’t rescheduled and the opportunity really has gone by the boards for “Team Castro” ( for some reason the “word” Syntech just popped into mind…must be too much NASCAR? ? ?) Let me add, that I enjoyed his comments about the Group 2 performances and wish he had sat in the whole show.

From the Myspace, I got the sense Jason’s “label” had something to do with the cancellation. But maybe that’s all b.s. and AI cancelled. Too bad for Jason because I think that was his only shot this season.

well the good news is that the song got a very positive response. So when it is released, it should do well. Crosses fingers for Jason!
