I am a bad fan. I totally forgot about date night. I don’t send Jason balloons or cameras. Yet, I’m really pleased that he’s doing these vids. They make me smile, too. He seems really happy. I’m glad he’s getting to record “Hallelujah” for a movie soundtrack (as reported in the headline thread).

I can’t help but love Carly, too. I’ve heard so many good things about her and her set. Can’t wait to see it for myself this weekend!

Jason looks like he could be in a toothpaste ad, his teeth and smile are amaaaazing. Everything he does is so adorable, even leaving his new camera on the bus. Lol. Wow, 5 million views!! I can’t wait until he gets to a million plays so he can keep going up on that list.

I finally got a chance today to watch some of the concert videos. Is it just me, or has Jason blossomed quite a bit already?

I loved his performance of “Rainbow” on the show (having been an Israel fan for a long time) but his concert version sounds so much more sure. It’s beautiful.

Woo hoo, new crack thread!

FolkFan, MySpace, under their “Top Artists” button, has three “Top Artist” lists: Unsigned, Indie, and Major. Jason has been seesawing around; for the longest time he was at #69, then #71, then gone (!), then for the last few days he’s been in the eighties and nineties, and suddenly today he jumped up to #40, then to #33, and now (at 1:30 am ET) #35. Along with such other “Unsigned Artists” as the Jonas Brothers (?!).

Aww, just-awake-Jason is cute as a button! I don’t know how anyone wakes up that way, I’m a total grouch!

He seems really comfortable having all these fans now. And he’s nothing but sweet. This is what happens I guess when you start out happy and loved by your family and then something nice happens to you. You just grow deeper into your sweetness, which is an awfully good direction to go to. Just a very kindly, warm kid with a fresh talent and I’m so happy for him.

I love a guy who keeps his promise!

It has to do with the number of plays. A view count much larger than the play count could actually dock an artist down a few places, which is why Castrocopia and other Jason fansites are encouraging people to listen to Jason’s music and not just view his page.

Very cute. This is the first one I’ve seen and I must agree that Jason has come a long way. He’s so animated and seems to have warmed up to being on camera even if it’s just a video. He must have very devoted fans if they gave him a video camera!

Quite right! Although I think the number of views and the number of friends also factor in somewhat, the number of plays and the ratio of plays-to-views seem to be the most important. So when you go to coo over his vlogs and blogs, play some songs! (You can *cough* turn down the volume all the way *cough*!)

I think part of the descrepancy of Jason’s plays had to do with the automatic play function wonking out some days. Plus, I’m pretty sure most fans don’t need to visit his myspace to listen to him. They have mp3s.

It was a group gift–expensive, yes, but not per person. It was more the time and effort in thinking up something particularly appropriate for them to give and coordinating the effort. Is okay with me–particularly since Jason seems just as thrilled with postcards!

Wow, I can’t wait to see him in person, beside the incredible charm, he is one amazing looking boy! He is actually beautiful! Those eyes are killer!

They had some problems with it recently and it was not recording the plays or some such thing, rereader knows more about that, so, believe me no one had to tell us to play, we just had to catch it up – am I right reader?

The visual is not a major part of his appeal, he DOES have a wonderful voice and I love his interpretation of certain songs, that is the major for me. I dont care how pretty someone is, if they suck but are pretty, they still suck none the less. The visual is, but of course, an added wonderful bonus. I dont have to look at him to listen all day to his music though, oh it would be nice but not necessary for my enjoyment of him.

I am so happy to say that I will be seeing Jason, David, and Brooke and others at the concert in Detroit!

Auto-play was off on Jason’s MySpace for several days; he managed to get it on but it went off again almost immediately. It took quite a while to get it to work correctly. So the more dedicated fans were trying to make up for all the plays that weren’t happening because the player didn’t go on by itself (it was a widespread MySpace problem but not universal, so their rankings were really messed up).

And, of course, most of his fans DO have not just the 4 songs on his page but most or all of his iTunes downloads (or equivalent mp3s) and for quite a while, were playing those instead. Also, he just let his sister and brother replace 3 of the 4 songs on his playlist last Friday evening; his play count jumped by 10,000 plays in just a few hours with no urging at all.

I’ve been working on songs, done some recording. A record is coming out one way or another, with or without a label. I’m not really sold on record labels right now. I just think they’re not serving their purpose anymore. I just want to make music for my fans.

I think with the exposure I have now, I have the ability to do that without doing massive promotion. Maybe I don’t know enough.

I actually find myself disagreeing with the part about promotion. I think it is SO important, and that the fanbase you gain from Idol is just not enough to start your career on (see Chris Richardson and probably Ace Young). He’s right in that MAJOR record labels aren’t serving their purposes; but I think if an Indie label offers him a good deal, he should take it. The support and promotion would allow him a chance to gain fans outside of the Idol bubble. It’s not like he’s been #1 on the unsigned artist chart for 4 months, ya know?

Sigh, I’m only worried because I think it would be such a waste of talent for him to become just another one of the unsuccessful Idol alumni.

Edit: OK, I’ve thought this through. I guess he’s right about not needing massive promotion if he wants to make music for his FANS. Clearly, he’s not interested in being a SUPERSTAH–and that is just hard for me to get used to. But, it’s why I love him in the first place. SO, this fan will definitely be buying his album.

I liked the Indy.com article. I’m happy that Jason is writing and recording songs and I hope that the rest works out in ways best for him. Jason will put his heart and soul into the music that he makes and I can’t wait to buy it. The last two quotes in the article make it seems as if Jason will be OK with whatever happens, no matter what happens. No desperation. Good for him. His faith really works for him.

Since he is a writer, I hope that he will take Elliott’s route and get a publishing deal and then an Indie label deal. I like the idea of Jason having more creative freedom and getting 50% instead of the small percentage major labels give to new artists. Elliott’s team worked hard for him and he worked to make it all work out so well. I would love for Jason to be all over radio and on tour this time next year. It may or may not be what he wants though. We’ll see.

Jason needs a good manager who believes in him, who is already respected in the music business and who knows how to set him up with companies and services to get Jason proper promotion and distribution of his music/CD.

Jason’s not completely new to the business. He was with a band and I’m sure the band probably researched record deals.

The Utah interview video was great. Jason was more at ease than the interviewer. The guy had good questions and Jason gave good answers. It’s great that he has the day off on Mandy’s birthday. Skydiving! Oh My! Hope they have fun. I guess AI will have a new clause in the tour contracts next year prohibiting skydiving while on tour. LOL.

This is a pretty good video of Jason, but the audio is not as strong as in other footage I have seen.

Yet, Jason is much more fluid with his phrase lines, not breathing as often and/or carrying the ends of his phrases a little longer before he breathes again.

He needs to work on supporting the lower end of this melodic line, as this is where his voice starts to fade. Also, articulating the words with increased precision would help him, as it does when he enters the higher part of his vocal range.

However, this song definitely has more vocal presence than it did earlier in the tour. His head voice is very good indeed and wonderfully centered.

And the fans are crazy nuts for this talented young singer. Good work Jason.

Wow – what a difference in the audio in this footage. Jasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice sounds excellent – really confident and rich.

He handles the upper à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“crazyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  notes very well. That à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“ayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  dihthong is such a stickler for all the singers, but he really trys to project the purer à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“ehà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  vowel and, wonder of wonders, it works!

This is overall a very very strong performance and it appears that he has reached an agreeable comfort level with the generally high tessitura of this song.

Excellent work Jason. Little by little your technical skills are enhancing and solidifying vocal delivery. Bravo my man!

This was a 42 second clip, but, you only need a bite out of the apple to know that ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s good. Jason sounds terrific – very energized and animated. He sings this number with a playful and relaxed vocal delivery – very expressive and always so much fun to watch.

Superb trio of songs. It just gets better and better for Jason, doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t it?
