Here's another reason why people shouldn't be freaking out. Atlantic Records for a major label, is not a sales oriented label. Sure every company wants sales, but a lot of Atlantic's artists don't sell a ton but they tour consistently. Often times after years of building up they will take off.

Some examples of this are the band Needtobreathe. They have toured steadily with Atlantic for years. When they released their most recent CD, the label underestimated their sales potential and the band ended up breaking the expectation by something like 4 or 5 times.

In terms of touring without big sales, take Serena Ryder for example. She's an Atlantic artist and has been for years. She doesn't sell much, she has no radio play but she is always touring and has a steady group of fans.

Relax people!

I am actually glad it got pushed back. I think Atlantic is trying to get as far away from the AI label as possible so he has more creditability as an artist. Having the CD drop the same time as Adam or Kris or others is an almost tacky way to capitalize on his AI success. Something which a lesser talented previous Idol might do. I think they are also rethinking it after seeing the audience demographic on the road. The age range spans from little kids to elderly but I am guessing median age is 30-50. I think they maybe had the teenybopper market (Jonas Bro, David Archie demographic) targeted until they saw his biggest fan base is wanting that soul baring sensuality he displays in his songs. Way too mature for little girls. Dont get me wrong, there will be songs like LJFINA on his CD that will appeal to the preteens. But I have a feeling they are going to release a single that is more emotionally mature to stir up the college age women and older before his CD does drop. And in the end I think that is what will give him more staying power.

i dont understand why everyone has to think so negatively about this. there are plenty of reasons why an album could be delayed and they dont all have to be bad reason.
why should he want to put his album out at the same time as at least 3 other former idols?? he isnt signed with 19E and has no reason to lump himself in with that same group.
he has been performing these songs quite a bit lately and i would be willing to bet they have been watching fan reaction to the songs and are tweaking them as they feel the need. also having been performing them live so much maybe just maybe jason isnt liking certain things bout them and wants to adjust them some. he seems to be quite the perfectionist when it comes to his music.
i think its much better to delay sending something out that you feel is just not quite ready yet than to rush something out just for the sake of having it out there. we all know if its rushed out the critics will tear it apart......
and we are only talking a 6 week delay here, not months an months......
from what we have seen from jason so far everything he has done has been well thought out and for a reason........i think this is the same thing.

oh and since idol starts airing again in january that kind of plug for a new cd wouldnt hurt either......

Although I'm disappointed, I can understand the delay. Jason just finished recording the first week of September. He started the radio tour the second week in September. Except for a day or two off to practice with his band for the State fair concert, he has been on the road every since and will be on the road until mid November.

All artists tweak the songs before final mastering, he has had no time off to do anything. I will buy Jason's CD whenever it comes out.

I didn't even think about the performing on Idol angle...that actually makes a lot of sense, Suzanne. I really hope he gets invited back. :)

Aww, I really want to see Jason do well. At least this shows that his record company is trying to think of the best strategy to maximize sales for him. But isn't early in the year (Jan-Feb) the worst times to sell albums?

I think that this is a great idea, November is really about this years Idols, and rushing to put something out is always bad - slow and steady wins the race, haste always makes waste - Good move Jason and we will all still be here waiting for it, that is for damn sure!

Mmm. I thought the Novemeber date would work because Jason and Kris Allen are similiar artists with fan overlap. I wonder why this is being pushed back unless they have lost faith in the project or want to release another single.

Why send him off on a long promo tour and then postpone the album?
I don't get it.

Rockee, I was thinking the same thing. Maybe they will be releasing another song which may sound more like a guaranteed hit. I sure love this guy and hope Jason will get the opportunity to appear on the show. These Mall tours are giving him performance experience.

I hope this works out for him. He's such a sweet guy!

Don't you think that the reason is competition and, if he releases in, say, March, he guests on AI and will get a splash out of it? If he goes on AI promoting an album that's 4 months old, it will get a bump but what if it's completely in the crapper by then? I was thinking that spring release is strategic for anyone who might get publicity from AI.

Am I the only one who sees this as a good thing? *shrugs* There are numerous major releases this November. It may be a good time to release an album if you're an established artist but not if you're new. Jason will end up getting lost in the shuffle and it will be hard to recuperate weeks after.

As for LJFIA, I believe it has exceeded expectations. When it was released, it has absolutely no airplay. The marketing was targeted for old fans who stuck with him.

Maybe they pushed it back to concentrate on promoting the single. They'll probably release another single by then.

So is the album done or not? It's kinda weird if he's not done recording yet, it's been a while. If the album is done, I don't see the point of pushing it back.

Yes, I doubt it's a steet cred thing with Jason. I love his voice, but his whole Idol persona was that he just started singing and playing guitar, and used to be a rock drummer.

I am looking forward to his album next year. I'm used to waiting, so no biggie for me. LOL.

hwc, LOL. I don't know much about the Ryan Adams thing, so I can't comment on that. But I don't think it's unusual for documentary film makers to follow semi-famous bands around. I think the guy who did the Wilco one was (and prolly still is) an unknown. But go ahead and cling to your tinfoil hat. ;-)
