Good day for James and his fans methinks. He did very well with absolutely no promo. Once the promo gets underway, things will get even better. Gah!  :)

I am still meh about the song but intrigued by the fan love.  For those who have or will purchase James’ song/album, would you share your last few purchases?  Are we talking metal fans, rock fans or AI fans.  I think the last songs I purchased were by a band called One EskimO (Chocolate), Natalie Merchant (Equestrienne), Norah Jones/Winton Marsalis (Makin’ Whoopee and Come Rain or Come Shine) and Interpol (Lights).  I ‘m guessing I lean more to the Matt duet than Durbs single.

I’m in wait and see mode and hope things get moving once promo kicks in, but these numbers really arent anything that special (though way better than what Stand Up has done). If you follow iTunes enough you know that. It may seem like the album is doing a lot better than the single but the fact is A LOT more singles are sold on iTunes than albums so an album being ranked high is a little midleading. And being high on the rock chart also doesnt tell the full story because the subcharts are a tiny drop in the bucket. Ranking on the overall singles chart is the most telling and gives an idea how the song is selling. Also, in the past Amazon has often been a somewhat decent gauge of sales and IIRC MOBD hasnt even cracked the Top 100 there.

Like I said I’m hoping for the best for when promo starts up and radioplay starts moving, but right now I do think the core fanbase is a lot smaller than I initially thought. No promo is often a factor when these pre-sales go up because more than likely than labels want to try and see how much demand is there and good pre-sales will also help determine how many CD’s are shipped to stores and how much money will be socked into promo. I remember reading comments from RCA about Adam and David Cook and how they were expecting big numbers because of their massive pre-sales and both got huge promo. Where as with Lee I always thought his crappy pre-sales played a big part in his equally crappy roll-out.

James’ album and LMB are not yet available on itunes or on amazon in Canada… does anyone know when they will be avail ?

The album is charting higher than the single, it’s now at #90 while the single still hasn’t cracked the Top 200. So that goes to show that most of James fans ARE album-centric.

That’s a reach.  Given the rankings, and that more people buy digital singles than digital albums, it’s likely that he’s selling more singles than albums right now.  Given how much other albums have sold at that ranking on Itunes, if the album stays there for the rest of the week that would come to less than 3000 copies sold.  Considering it’s a pre-order, that’s not a bad figure, but I wouldn’t make any grand proclamations about what such a small sample means about James fans.  Historically idol fans have been known to buy the singles as well as the album, so just like when this argument was used to explain away why David Cook’s single wasn’t selling, I find it hard to believe that the reason is because people are buying the album.  More than likely, the rankings for both are because most people have no clue that James is about to release music, and James’ hardcore fanbase isn’t very big.

the last few I bought were Adele and Blink 182 if that helps you- I can’t wait to hear James full CD

Oh. I like David Cook. I don’t follow him at all. But I didn’t think that was a good song choice for him at all. He is much better than that song.

EMI Canada is distributing James album and I E-mailed them this afternoon asking when and I already got a reply, good customer service. They will do their best to get it on ITunes for the 21st of November. so I E-mailed back and ask that the bonus track for pre-ordering be available for Canadian after this date is the release is too close to the 21st and that they send a twit notifying when people when the album is available.

Yeah my choices for the lead single would have been Paper Heart or *surprise* Circadian. The latter would’ve been a stretch for HAC, though, which is really the only format David can get any play on.

With James, his hardcore fanbase obviously isn’t very large. Getting into the 80s on Itunes really isn’t that impressive. LMB won’t be impacting until the release date of MOABD, so there won’t be anything to really increase awareness. Maybe it will be a successful single, but I doubt it will. It doesn’t really fit into any format, and it just isn’t a very good song. Considering all of these things, I’d say James will sell ~25k his first week. Who knows what happens after that, as I haven’t heard the album.

    LMB #12 rock
    MOAB #14 rock
    MOAB #78 overall

Does anyone still have the instructions for what numbers to change in the url for the iTunes lists to get the specific genre listings instead of the overall?  I seem to remember someone mentioning a  way to do that but I stupidly didn’t save the info.

In case anyone is wondering, MOABD CD pre-orders at Amazon are at
#74 in Rock and #148 in overall Music.

I don’t know who that Lindsey Sky is but I like the melody of that song “My love screams” and her voice is good too – but I’m sorry to say Matt Giraud’s parts ruins the song cause his voice just isn’t good enough – his voice is average and muddled. I can see maybe David Archuleta and Kris Allen singing his part and complimenting her voice better.

Nah…Matt fit this song just fine. I like it just the way it is.

  • JoCeeisme

I agree Tera2, I don’t think Matts voice is good enough to go with the womens, sort of spoils a good song.  Muddling is a good word especially when he sings by himself.
