Unlike last week’s Los Angeles auditions, American Idol 10 found some talent up the California coast in San Francisco, CA.

After the jump, check out some pre-Idol music from a few of last night’s talented hopefuls.

We know James Durbin, the Aspergers-afflicted singer loves him some classic rock from his audition (here and here), check out his rendition of the Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and Led Zepplin’s “Whole Lotta Love”.

There are no You Tubes currently of Colombia refugee, Julie Zorrilla (AuditionAudition), but she’ recorded an EP at 17.  Not surprising, considering how polished she already seems at only 20 years old.  Listen to a cut from the record called “About Us”

Stefano Langone (AuditionAudition) survived a horrific car crash just so he could make it to Hollywood! (tm Steven Tyler). He performs a couple of original tunes, “The Right Path” and “Perfect Stranger”, accompanying himself on piano.

And finally, Clint Jun Gamboa (Audition) will probably never live down the fact that he wrote and sang two songs for what’s become a cult classic, and the “worst movie ever made”, Tommy Wiseau’s The Room. Also, Clint performs covers of “Purple Rain” and “Faithfully”.

Wow! Talk about a great Whole Lotta Love version! James Durbin for the win!!!

  • Madman

    O.O Amazing Purple Rain!

Edit: it’s too bad he doesn’t have an exactly-marketable image…

James Durbin has a good voice and a nice range. I like these videos better than his audition, and I can see why he reminds some people of Adam. However I feel like Adam had a lot more control over his voice and he was a lot more polished. Where Adam was Glam, this guy is more gritty. I hope he gets a major makeover if he makes it to the Top 12/13 cause his hair is awful, and he needs a stylist asap. But if he can perform on stage the way Adam did, then he may very well make it to the end.

James Durbin is really a good singer. Really good.

AI needs to drop the back story stuff with this kid, he doesn’t need the help.

  • Miss Blue

Wow. Just listened to Purple Rain. Still liking Junebug lots. Amazing rendition. Really good.

    I’m really liking Clint too.

Edit: it’s too bad he doesn’t have an exactly-marketable image…

Well don’t count him out yet. Notice that he wore the dorkey glasses and striped sweater for the AI auditions but doesn’t in the performances above. Imo, the guy definitely knew what he was doing to get himself noticed on idol.

Purple Rain is all kinds of JOY!!!! LOVE THIS!!!!! I’ll say it again – more favorites at this point in the show than I have ever had!

If they all stay in their genre – this is going to be hard! I love all the genres and there are a lot of CONTENDERS!

I do feel sorry for the WGWG this year because there are a few that would have been right up there on any other season but some will not even make it to the top 40 because of it. Shoot!

I just watched Clint’s purple rain, and that was great. I’m impressed. I honestly think that this season will be pretty strong.

  • idolbeat

In all my seasons watching, I have been waiting for someone to sing like Prince and I am EXCITED – WOAH!

  • desiree_chick

Liking some Clint and Stefano! Whoo!

  • chessguy99

Love Julie’s EP. Amazing she did that at 17.

I think that it will be the 4th year in a row a male will win this thing.
If James go to the voting stage, he can win it. He can sing and not bad looking, cute kid, back story.

Come on Julie and any of the girls, be great please.

Yeah, I agree. I think he has potential. He is more of a classic rock singer than Adam, who is much more polished and glam. Especially with this song, vocally, James Durbin reminds me more of Robert Plant’s original vocals than Adam’s.

while I do think that James is absolutely “Amazing” but Clint is someone I have known for awhile from the “karaoke scene” and he is truly an Amazing Talent that I have heard over the years, competing against him is NOT EASY for a lot of us. lol.. and yes, his Audition was hilarious, I have never seen him act like that. :D Anyway I am so happy for him and I know he just has to go far. :D
