James Durbin began a nationwide tour in the spring in support of his debut  album, Memories of a Beautiful Disaster.  If the Season 10 Idol alum hasn’t made it to your city yet, you may be in luck.  James has extended his tour through to the first week in August.

iluvai, I always thought he was cute too, but when you see him live all the emotion and heart he puts into a performance-my God , I just wanted to rush the stage and kiss him.  He’s a keeper!

I always attempt to see all sides & agree with some angles here & b/c he didn’t have AI $$ behind him to do the job in a splashy way in the beginning promotion it had to go this route.  Choosing a smaller label certainly had it’s pros & cons & I was worried he was being downplayed.  If you are good (I read his FB not just my opin) saw no harm in “making it” big soon from what he showed everyone on the show/tour.  I think they are becoming a better match–James is willing & has just enough agression AND composure with WU that it’s working.   Even James suggested/stated though that he’s been at it since 15 & that to me was a little argument re. his paying dues now.   This level of fame is already different than pre-Idol for him so even what is months into it, this is still at a wonderfully high level.  All the Stars he’s rubbed elbows with & some who are making it happen for him are coming together imo to what his talent/ability deserves.  Don’t believe many of the fans at these concerts are following his story like AI people, so whatever respect he is gaining now in “new fans” is likely due to instant recognition of “Fun” & “Respect” for his talent.

Did you get to meet James?
He is such a big ‘ole sweetheart. I was lucky enough to meet him at one of those radio promo deals back in January. Lucky me, I was towards the end of one of those meet and greet lines and got to speak to him for quite awhile. What a great humble guy. He was just adorable. Dylan was great too, I spoke to him for a while also, he seemed a little suprised people wanted to talk to him too and knew his name. lol.
(And Blake still had the long hair then and it was beautiful- grow it back Blake!)

I certainly get what you’re saying, I guess what you mean is that James has crossover potential and I agree. Sure he can do the heavy stuff but he can do more than that. I wouldn’t mind him getting a crossover hit on pop radio, many bands have done that (eg: Buckcherry’s Sorry), and that’s usually what gives them their biggest sales boosts. I just feel that he should conquer rock first, that’s how the others did it as well, it’s the right way to do it. Let him concentrate on one market then when he’s established in that market he can explore others. Unless James’ style becomes popular in the mainstream again he’s unlikely to see huge sales, so I’m sure Wind-up will still try for crossover into pop every now and again with the occasional power ballad.

LOL! Yep often the most popular bands don’t produce the most inspiring music, Nickleback anyone?

I think “Higher than heaven” is a very good song and one of my most favorites from his CD.  I like the cool stylistic effects he used singing the song.  I like Jame’s CD, and its the style I thought he should do so its accessible and not all metal – and I wanted him to work with Daughtry’s producer and he did.  I like the melodic rock vibe of the CD.  I’m not a hard rock fan, but I like Pop/soul/hip-hop/pop-rock/alternative-rock.   Jame’s made a good CD, and he’s sold over 100k which is good compared to how Haley’s sales is going.

Its good to hear he’s doing well on tour and adding more dates.  James loves being on stage obviously.  He said before his heart is in touring and with other rock acts.  Good luck to James in his career.  He has a special voice and he was my 2nd favorite after Pia last season.

Hope you get the opportunity to see him live sometime. If you saw him on the Idol tour he has improved immensely since then. No YouTube video no matter how good the quality does justice to that special voice of his. And he’s a very engaging and personable performer. He’s much heavier live but I bet he’ll make you love his style. His band is awesome too, they’re all extremely talented showmen like him.

AI saw something special in him and so did America.  So I hope that he gets to keep  making music for a living and I hope that I get to see him live sometime because I love rock and James is a great performer.
