Vintage Archie vocals! That’s a very nice song and very appropriate for the occasion. Archie’s tone is one of a kind…congratulations and hopefully this will in fact be a carrier single!

Lyrics via snarkyarchies in case anyone wants them:

    Yeeahh yeahhh
    Mmmmm
Everybody’s got a time in their life
When everything hurts and nothing’s right
    But you gotta walk on
    Yeah, you gotta walk on

Everybody’s got a piece of their heart
That’s been stepped on and torn apart
    But you gotta move on
    Yeah, you gotta walk on

‘Cause I know it’s hard to have the strength
And sometimes all you feel is pain
But time keeps floating by on that river in the night

But I know things are gonna get better
I know things are gonna be fine
And I know things are gonna get better
    Life is gonna get better
    Yeah, we’re gonna be fine

    Everybody’s got that one regret
No matter how they try, they can’t forget
    But you gotta move on
    Yeah, you gotta move on
And everybody’s got someone they’ve lost
And they can’t believe they’re really gone
    But you gotta live on
    Yeah, you gotta live on

‘Cause I know it’s hard to have the strength
And sometimes all you feel is pain
But things keep floating by on that river in the night

But I know things are gonna get better
I know things are gonna be fine
And I know things are gonna get better
    Life is gonna get better
    Yeah, we’re gonna be fine

    And I know there’s hope
I see it in your eyes
So take me and touch me
‘Cause with a little bit of love
    We can win the fight
With a little bit of love
    We can see the light
With a little bit of love
    It’ll be all right

I know things are gonna get better
And I know things are gonna be fine
And I know things are gonna get better
    Life is gonna get better
    Yeah, we’re gonna be fine

    Walk, walk, walk on by
    Keep, keep, keep walking on
    Keep, keep, keep walking on

  • carolinacharms

There’s walkin’ and walk kind of reminds me of

When you walk through a storm
    Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm
    Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

    Walk on through the wind
    Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
    And you’ll never walk alone
    You’ll never walk alone

When you walk through a storm
    Hold your head up high
And don’t be afraid of the dark

At the end of the storm
    Is a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of the lark

    Walk on through the wind
    Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown

Walk on walk on with hope in your heart
    And you’ll never walk alone
    You’ll never walk

    You’ll never walk
    You’ll never walk alone.

  • mamaspearl

Great performance by David! Nice blend of pop, country and R&B.

  • davidlove

Ending is especially good. Well done. Nigel introduced the song as his next single. mmmm….

  • frogcooke

It wont be the next single. They’ve been slipping up all night. Its because it was a new song. lol

  • JHM

Absolutely gorgeous performance by David and what a beautiful, hearfelt and inspiring song to sing on the telethon. Love the song, love the artist and the human being behind the voice. He is a treasure, to say the least. I can’t stop listening to him sing this song. I am so eager for his new music…Oct 5th, album release date…David Archuleta’s “The Other Side Of Down”…can’t get here fast enough for me.

  • jaybee

David was very good,song-not up to his level,at all. But, it was an appropriate piece, given the venue.Ace’s vocals are beyond annoying, here, which is why his album flopped;its a good thing he’s attractive though,as its getting him lots of stage work. And I heard he’s working closely with Eric Roberts, and his wife- who’s a casting director, on honing his acting skills,so he’s got a shot at TV,or films…

  • JudyOhio

David sounded and looked very good tonight. Loved Nigel’s introduction and enjoyed the small conversation between Nigel and David after the song. I liked the song quite a bit, even the slight country feel to it (imo), and am really looking forward to buying his new album!

  • LCT

What a beautiful performance by this young man! It had a feel of a little bit of country & R&B. I am in awe with this guy! I’ve heard him sing so many genres of music. I know he’s not respected by many and to this day I don’t know why. He acts his age – which is so refreshing, he’s talented, good looking – oh and so good to his fans! I love other artists but what’s so difficult to find something good in him? He’s incredibly awesome and I hope AI is proud to say he is one of theirs!

  • bridgette12

I found both David and Ace songs annoying. As for the three singles I have heard from David so far, this song is better than SBL and Elevator, but that’s not saying a whole lot. His album has to have some better songs than these three songs, because if this is all he got than his album will be in trouble. Sorry, but it doesn’t matter how good your voice is, if you don’t have good songs you are not going to sell albums or singles.

  • ggdoorsfan

first off – yayayay to nigel for officially confirming that yoko ono called in to idol after david sang ‘imagine’ to give him her personal kudos for a job well done. this has been an ‘urban legend’ since that monumentally awesome performance, but hearing it confirmed, for once and for all by nigel, was sweet. kinda makes up for a lot of lingering dislike i carried for that man that season, lol. anyhoo moving on –

… i liked this song – there is an unexpected thrill hearing david sing a song with the country/rnb-ish vibe throughout, and sell it. this song highlights that unique tone in his voice that sets him apart. when he gets inside a song, taps into the emotion and begins to wail, woah. so ready to hear this cd – i sense some mayjah surprises like this song, and for that i am excited – bravo, bravo david… and thanks nigel for the respect and the giving of some deserved props to david.

  • kmd

David looked and sounded great!!! The song was a good choice for the telethon. I think Nigel loves David which is good for him. His album will be great as it has such diverse songs on it. I like that he is able to sing all types of songs. I think David will sell a lot of albums. I still like Ace too. He is very cute.

  • ggdoorsfan

i think the three songs highlight the diversity that people have been wanting to hear from him – no singer or artist hits it out of the park with every song, but with david, his percentage is pretty consistently high, so i’m not worried about the differing opinions expressed about the songs so far. methinks these pronouncements of trouble and other concern shown is premature – david has a knack for delivering when so many are so quick to want to write him off, or dismiss his efforts. have we not seen this time and time again in the years we have been following him, fan and non fan alike, lol… underestimate his appeal, and the appeal of his music at your leisure – he’s been cast in the underdog role before, and made a lot of folks eat their words, and it may happen again, lol. i think there will be some surprises in store for us all with this cd. what they are – well, we will let the public and the future take care of that. i’m excited, and can’t wait to hear it all.

  • Suzanne

David’s song–not just kind of country. That’s a country song. He sounded great and I especially liked that bridge. I wonder if it can be marketed to Country stations? If Danny Gokey’s song can do well (the sentimental song about death), so can this. David’s song is too sentimental and simple in its arrangement to do well anywhere else. Not a bad song but kind of old fashioned.

I didn’t even make it through Ace’s song. He seems like a nice guy, and he’s super handsome but his nasally voice–I can’t listen to it.

  • Buddy

Great job David. Loved the intro by Nigel. It was personal and seemed heartfelt. I thought both the song and the intro were very appropriate for the night. The vibe of the song sort of reminded me of a throw back to John Denver days. Not sure if it was the music itself or in the ways David sang some of the lyrics …”but you’ve gotta walk on … yeah, you gotta walk on.” First thing I thought was that this must have come from Nashville. Just seems to have that feeling to me. I think this album is going to be so much better than his first, if for nothing else, you can tell how much he enjoys the songs and believes in them.

  • JP

I enjoyed both Ace’s and David’s performances. Ace is a natural host I think. He is so at ease with people and in front of the camera.

  • ggdoorsfan

Just seems to have that feeling to me. I think this album is going to be so much better than his first,

that’s what i feel too… i’m not focusing on sales, they will be there. i sense a shift going on here for david artistically. he’s stretching himself, taking some risks and putting himself and his work out there for review and the expected criticisms. anyone who thinks david is playing it safe here, or thinking this is going to be a paint by the numbers cd isn’t really looking deeply enough, or paying attention, lol.. [no table flips please, tm rhonj] imo, david is doing what any real singer or artist worth their salt is doing – going outside the expected, the comfort zones, the familiar to offer a glimpse of his growth in this moment, and giving hints of where it may be heading. nothing is same old, same old here with david or the songs we’ve heard so far, and that over anything else gives me indication that he is growing, and can only continue to get better.

  • Tess

I wonder if David is intentionally “going country” with this song and to whomover compared him to our good old boy John Denver hit the nail on the proverbial head. (Don’t get me wrong, I loved John Denver, back in the day).

Anyone know if this is a write, or a cowrite by David? Whether it is or isn’t, the theme of the song is all David and totally in his balliwick. I guess he has determined that what he likes (message songs) and what his fans seem to like is the same. So, good for him for figuring out who he is and where he wants to go as an Artist. There has been and always will be a huge audience for the uplifting, heart lifting stuff and I am sure David will continue on that path. It maynot buy him “pop” success but he is sure to do well in HAC and AC and may even get a nice cross over song (like this one) that will do well in country.

  • kimk

Yes guys love the diversity that David has presented us so far….
and we have only heard three songs so far!
Can’t wait for October 5… couldn’t be soon enough!!

  • LK10

I felt the country vibe too! I am not a country fan, but David could make me love it!

I love this guy– his voice is candy to my ears and I love that sweet smile and demeanor!

I also love the variety I am hearing so far from his album. He can sing the phonebook and I am excited to hear the rest of the songs from his album.

    Great choice for this show!

I have to add that after watching this backstage video with some fans, he is SO real and genuine! I knew that, but it was sweet to see it again.

  • HarleyWoman

I noticed Ryan and Ashleigh from SYTYCD S6 performing with the group “Ballroom with a Twist”. :)

Yes guys love the diversity that David has presented us so far….
and we have only heard three songs so far!

well, 4 really. if that track list is correct, and it looks like it might be. sbl, elevator, parachutes and airplanes, things are gonna get better.

  • spencer

There is so much “wow” going on about David’s new song — wow, the song, wow, the vocals and WOW, the young man singing the song! Luv seeing the Archu-stomp thrown in there LOL.

    Cannot wait until October 5th!!

  • ggdoorsfan

i don’t think david has all the figuring out who he is artistically’ stuff done – not by a long shot, lol. at 19, no way. that is what makes him so dynamic, and far more interesting than many idol alums to me – he is not fully formed, locked into a formula or falling back on the same schtick and gimmicks that trap a lot of singers, especially pop singers, in cycles they never seem to escape.

there are so many avenues open for him, and pop is but one avenue open that his talent can find a fit and appeal in. his continued success and longterm appeal is not dependent, and imo never has been, on pop. it may be where jive has focused their efforts thus far, but it has never been the only destination in many fans minds for him. trying to label him as any particular kind of singer is limiting, and shortsighted – he has his preferences, surely, for certain styles and genres, but he makes this worn out cliche true every time he sings – he. can. sing. anything. and be convincing at it. i like his pop songs, the message songs, the spanish songs, the rnb songs, the playful, quirky songs. we’ve peeked behind the curtain somewhat, and know his musical foundation is rock solid. wherever he leads, he will have tons of folks following – because he’s that good. no arrogance, or smugness, or bragging. trufax. the only thing missing, from my fan perch, is finding the kind of effective promotion – the cold, hard cash outlayed to really present david as i and many feel he deserves to be presented. he has done quite well, weller than well on low flame promo. when that area of his career changes, a lot of things will change. people like their labels, and trying to fit people into them. i like those who have knacks for defying them, and going beyond what is ”expected”. i think david will do this for the fans and critics throughout his career, to hits and some misses along the way – but he will never be static, stale or boring or predictable.

  • frogcooke

david: Been having a great time at the Jerry Lewis telethon! Fun seeing Nigel Lythgoe last night. You can still tune in on PBS.

    looks like he’s still there?

    NeonLimelight

David Archuleta treated fans to a little new music this morning (September 6) during his appearance on the Jerry Lewis Telethon. The singer dropped by and debuted the brand new song, Things Are Gonna Get Better.

Things Are Gonna Get Better is a gorgeous mid-tempo track that features inspirational lyrics. “Everybody’s got a time in their life when everything hurts and nothing’s right/But you gotta walk on, yeah you gotta walk on,” Archie sings on the opening line. The uplifting song was the perfect choice for the telethon, which aims to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Things Are Gonna Get Better is from David’s sophomore album, The Other Side Of Down. The set, lead by the first single Something ‘Bout Love, is due in stores October 5.

  • AllenTX

How is David any less awkward on stage than Allison since people are always yapping about Allison? idk, he just doesn’t look like a pop star and his run-of-the-mill pop song doesn’t sound current at all. He fits more comfortably in Groban mold than anything. Mark my words, he’s another Aiken in the making. Aiken should have taken Michael Buble route from the start and Archie should have taken Groban route.

  • KathyH

David CAN look awkward on stage at times, but he isn’t always. Sometimes he’s just spot on. He’s a dynamic live peformer who does well with giving a song what it needs:

What a beautiful song and David’s performance was wonderful!! I love watching him perform…he always gives 110% of himself in every performance. You can tell that he sings with passion because he really connects to the song and the audience.

And I loved Nigel’s introduction…I think Nigel is a big David fan as well and knows that his kind of talent is special and rare.

I can’t wait for TOSOD…I think it’s going to be a diverse album with a lot of variety and a lot of David. And as we’ve seen already, David can sing ANYTHING and make it great!

I loved the video of David with the two little girls…he is so great with all his fans. Loved when he said…”my friend, David Cook, is from Kansas City”! :)

  • shell29

I’m not hearing the “country” vibe in this song, but maybe that’s because I don’t listen to a lot of country music (not a fan of that genre). That said, I really like it. Very curious to hear the rest of Archie’s new album. I do believe it will be a step up from the previous one.

  • Kitwana

So far, I like all of David’s new songs but for very different reasons. The contrast between the performance of this song and the performance of SBL on Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day is incredible. Hard to believe it’s the same singer. I wonder if this is the song that David worked on with Carrie Underwood’s writers. It does have a pop country feel to it, with the greater emphasis on pop.

  • tibitibis

Well happen that his ‘Awkward’ presence is attractive for many people fans and followers, believe me people can’t take off their eyes from him when he hits the stage, and adopt the same contagious energy he put on his performances, so i call that stage presence ;)

Now he is a pop singer , i don’t think someone can predict the behavoir of the radio in the next months, so who knows by now what gonna be the current music in 6 months? . At the end people gonna be (or is?)hungry to hear this kind of refreshing positive songs.

He can put out inspirational pop music too and still a pop star in the eyes of millions of fans around the world, obviously the taste of each person is different, but he’s gonna arrive to his place at his time :)

  • rhed31

    David did great. :)

  • ggdoorsfan

all due respect to allison, but david manages to do what allison did not – incorporate that so called ‘awkwardness’ into his overall charm to his fans and the public. that awkwardness sure hasn’t prevented him from appealing and drawing people to him from day 1 till today, when allison could not sustain or build any appeal to sustain her either on the show, or afterwards during her tenure on jive. it happens. all is not lost for her – her youth, like david, gives her plenty of time to figure some things out, and come back swinging. allison i love her, but she is no where near the live performer in terms of polish, appeal, emotional connection to the audience as david is. that is all i have to say about ms. allison, back to david. the aiken/buble/groban boxes are their own, they don’t work for anyone but themselves. david has his own unique journey and path, and you know what – if he can have a measure of clay’s early success going forward, how is that a bad thing… being compared in that manner to aiken is no put down, as so many of our faves will never live up to or equal some of his accomplishments, looked at from that perspective. or that of groban, or buble. each are masters of what they do, and if david achieves the same kind of branding or mastery of a genre in a similar way as a buble or groban down the road – not a bad thing. what they do, they do well, and they are set apart and given props for it. not a bad place to be.

  • goboywonder

Well David has pulled another rabbit out of his musical hat! His ability to sing multiple genres should serve him well for many years to come. This is such a lovely uplifting and inspiring song and was so appropriate for this occasion.

  • cmom

I love David on stage. He has great personal power when you meet him as an individual and he has great power on the stage. In the times I have seen him live he had 100% control of the audience from the minute he walked out. (You can see it even in youtubes where the audience doesn’t even all know what to expect like “Contigo”). I am really looking forward to hearing everything on the new cd. I loved the r&b/pop flavor in this song and of course, the voice shines.

  • heidijoy

David is a fantastic LIVE performer in my opinion and that of many fans who travel miles to see him. Many find an emotional connection to David and the song when he sings. He will follow his own path as GG says and since he is only 19 and by most standards has had huge success @ a moderate pace. I thank him for using his talent to help causes such as MDA which is why he performed after all. Word has it that he touched many people there last eve and got a Standing ovation.

I also Love Terry Fador from America’s got talent and now of Las Vegas. He is the best tranquiloquist I’ve ever seen and I hope to see him Live someday. His story is so inspirational and he went from an unknown who finally got a break and now has his own theatre in Las Vegas with a hefty 5 year contract.

Thanks MJ for bringing us the videos.

  • heidijoy

Oops! I meant Ventriloquist and singer for Terry Fador.

  • LK10

Bravo! Well said! How can you argue with the Buble/Groban success. Even Clay, although he is not a pop star, is doing what fits him best.

BEAUTIFULLY sung. Really enjoyed it. And the song fits the occasion perfectly. I don’t know. Maybe I’m weird, but when I saw the performance I wasn’t thinking in terms of singles or charts or artistic direction. It’s a telethon to raise money for MDA and the song seemed to fit the occasion and his performance was very heartfelt. Worked for me and I’m leaving it at that.

  • goboywonder

It sure seems like Nigel really appreciates David immense talent. Wish he would invite him to sing on SYTYCD. If he does, hope he doesn’t ask him how old he is…at what age do they stop asking how old you are? Do they ask others around his age how old they are?Maybe it’s just me. :(

eta: I guess the age thing was to segue to mentioning the telethon.

  • dhunken

I loved David performance. He is a natural. The song to me doesn’t sound country but more in the Christian wheel. I think this song could do fantastic in CAC. and HAC. Its a song of hope. In today’s environment that is something that is needed. David is Amazing in my book and I suspect will always be. I agree David is unique and he will find his path and I love that I can be part of his journey and see the transformation in all of is glory…Good and bad. David is a Star!

Ace was not bad I kind of liked the song he sung. His voice has improved since idol. IMHO

  • Suzanne

idk, he just doesn’t look like a pop star and his run-of-the-mill pop song doesn’t sound current at all. He fits more comfortably in Groban mold than anything. Mark my words, he’s another Aiken in the making. Aiken should have taken Michael Buble route from the start and Archie should have taken Groban route.

I agree that the song he sang last night is not current at all, and the lyrics are encouraging but they aren’t very imaginative. No imagery for instance, such as in his current single, comparing love as a rollercoaster (“Hold on for the ride of your life; it’s gonna be alright; hold on tight”–those are imaginative lyrics.)

I don’t feel as strongly as the quote above, but I do wonder if David and his label realize that the different types of performances he does fractures his image. You don’t see Justin Beiber (a far inferior singer) doing anything except with a full band and four background dancers, even on that tiny stage on SNL. That’s his image and the kids love it. With David, he sings Ave Maria in a suit, pop songs with a band or a track, or some acoustic things. Is he a singer/songwriter? A fancy balladeer? A pop star? Most archie fans love that he’s all those things, and he’s pretty good at those things–the Ave Maria at the holidays was phenomenal–but the teens (in general) won’t listen to his Christmas CD; the AC crowd doesn’t want to hear hand claps on 2 and 4 on most songs, like on his first CD; and now he does this country song? I don’t think it brings in more fans; variety this early in a career breaks up the fanbase. Except for his core fans, which brought his current single up to number 38 on itunes on the day it was issued (not good), people don’t know what they’re getting with Archie.

If you like Justin Timberlake, you’ll buy his next album w/o listening to it. With David Archuleta? I think he’s very talented, but I’m going to screen the tracks and then maybe buy it. Most people won’t even do that. Archie needs a big hit off this album and then he needs to be that guy.

  • Suzanne

The song to me doesn’t sound country but more in the Christian wheel.

That’s the fourth kind of guy he is. Geez. Fracturing the fanbase.

david can be whatever he wants to be – i disagree that variety is fracturing or fragmenting to his base, or limits his ability to draw in fans. david’s very versatility is both a draw to many different segments of listeners, and a double edged sword, in that what he has is not as cut and dried, easy to categorize, market or fit into a nice neat little box like so many other people of lesser talent. i think once many people, and some fans too, begin stop trying to assess his worth or value solely on itunes rankings or numbers, number of cd’s sold as opposed to other idols or whoever, then maybe they could better enjoy and appreciate the unique talent already david is, and the groundwork i feel he is laying for even greater success. there are so many arbitrary expectations placed on him and his music from the fans and elsewhere that if he listened and took them to heart, i’d think it would paralyze him. he has got to follow his own muse, while keeping whatever label he is signed to satisfied with their return on investment, and manage to retain a base of fans that will be there in times of feast and famine. and he most certainly like any artist will have periods of both in his career. imo, he is never going to be an easy sell to many people, he is never going to be easy to categorize or pin down. but i think all that does is set him apart from the pack, and gives him more avenues to explore before he hits his stride. and he has a ways to go, imo, before he even begins to do that, so i view all this as career building groundwork. not having all the answers, just being a part of watching the process for me is equally nailbiting and very exciting. i don’t need to pick and choose those things about his music or journey thus far that i support. he is a complete package, and that is how i will take him. the good with the bad, bitter with the sweet. ymmv, as always.

David is charming in his aww shucks kinda way, but that’s not going to serve him too well as he grows up. I was bored by his song.

I preferred Ace’s performance, but I like the song better. I also like his voice, so go figure.

As for Allison, I think she’s a way better than either of them. She also has a ton of charisma. Just sayin.

  • cadt

This was a beautiful, inspirational performance that fit in perfectly with the theme of a telethon. David himself said he could have just sung SBL but this felt more appropriate. So, yes, we should berate him for that (??). Re: “You don’t see Justin Beiber (a far inferior singer) doing anything except with a full band and four background dancers, even on that tiny stage on SNL”. Inferior singers can’t do anything else but hide behind a band and back-up singers. David is passionate about music, not becoming a superstar. I applaud his willingness to experiment, grow, and define himself in front of the entire world -that’s a very brave way to go! p.s. I love SBL but I also loved TAGGB and that’s a good thing.

well, unfortunately jive and the rest of the public doesn’t see it that way, so go figure, lolol… i like allison too, but comparisons to david will pull her up short w/me everytime. they are unique talents, with a lot of similarities and a lot of differences. both are young, have time on their side to perfect their craft, so in that sense both have bright futures. pitting one against the other is useless, and serves no purpose, so i won’t. she’ll find her way, of that i’m sure, as sure as i am that david is here to stay – in all his awkward, so called boring glory, lol…

  • Kitwana

but I do wonder if David and his label realize that the different types of performances he does fractures his image. A pop star?

I suspect that David and Jive know exactly what they are doing. Is David “fracturing his image” by singing different types of song and giving different types of performances? Maybe. However, I am not convinced that this is a bad thing, particularly for David at this stage in his career. MJ posted an NPR article last Spring comparing Clay Aiken with David Archuleta and saying that Clay may have a longer career because all his fans are not fickle teens and tweens. I do not agree that all David’s fans are teens and tweens but a large number probably are. The reality is that most teen stars do not have career longevity unless they can appeal to a wider audience, i.e. beyond the teens and tweens. Yes Bieber may be successful now with his consistent song choice and performance style but this has likely limited his fanbase to a very narrow part of the population. Having such a narrow fanbase is not a recipe for long term success or even medium term success. Look at the Jonas Brothers? Who was hotter than them a couple of years ago? This summer they cancelled a number of U.S. tour dates due to poor ticket sales. From a timing standpoint, I also think that now is the perfect time to appeal to the widest fanbase possible. The problem with waiting until you have achieved success before diversifying is that the public comes to see and expect you to perform in a certain way and may not be prepared to accept a different version of you. Kelly Clarkson’s My December may have been her best album but the public was so used to seeing the “pop” version of Kelly that it really didn’t give this more thoughtful album a chance. Yes Justin Timberlake is a success now but the Timberlake you see now is NOT the one you saw when he was part of N’Sync. And as “cool” as this Timberlake is today, he had to work pretty hard to overcome his boyband image. How many other boybanders have achieved similar solo success? Finally, I wouldn’t be too quick to credit pop stars like Bieber for being consistent and unchanging in their song choices and performance styles. It may simply mean that they lack the talent, vision or the courage to do anything different.

I just listened to this and “Elevator”. All the comments made me think I’d hate Elevator but I didn’t… I thought it was breezy, quirky and cute. This one, for me, sounds like the kind of stuff he sang on Idol. Whoever said Christian radio upthread hit the nail on the head for me. Not my thing, but he sang it well.

I have no idea what this album is going to sound like. I’ve heard 3 songs and none of them have much in common musically. That could be good or bad, gotta wait and see!

  • offside

I loved the Tap Dance to Mack the Knife(where are all the Tyce haters today?) and I actually thought the faux Idol skit was kind of fun. I commend everyone for being a part of this event; they all did a great job.

  • sueh

LOVE this song! But I also really like his latest single, Something Bout Love…and Elevator is just fun! I also like the fact that throughout his career, David has proven he can sing almost any genre of music. His voice sounded unbelievable in last night’s performance, I don’t believe for a moment that he has fractured anything. David’s fanbase is very diverse..fans of all ages, cultures and taste in music. The image I have of him at present time is that he is an amazingly talented artist who sings and writes songs that I can actually connect with. Personally, I enjoy listening to different types of songs on an album. It keeps things fresh and interesting.

This past year, I heard Miley Cyrus’s song “The Climb” on Pop radio, Christian radio and Country. That song proved to be extremely successful in all three markets. I’m not sure she’s lost many fans because of it either. I have a hunch that David’s music will be around for a long time. Can’t wait to see what he has in store for us on October 5!

  • bootslacrosse

I have to agree with Kitwana. It seems people were saying when David was on Idol, that he was a one trick pony, it doesn’t seem so anymore. I liked the song, it’s in his wheelhouse, his album should have something for everybody which I think is good. He’s better off going after the older demographic. Let’s see where Bieber is at in a few years. Probably celebrity rehab.

  • Davidx2

Let’s see where Bieber is at in a few years. Probably celebrity rehab.

    I wouldn’t be surprised!!

  • HappyDaisy

MJ, thanks again for always posting all the good stuff and so quickly. The extra backstage videos of David are really nice. Such a likable guy.

This was an excellent vocal performance by David and he looked gorgeous.

p.s. Stayed up ’til 2 a.m. to watch David live. Where do I apply for the “Dedicated Fan” card? :)

I loved the video of David with the two little girls…he is so great with all his fans. Loved when he said…”my friend, David Cook, is from Kansas City”!

That mention of Cook was neat!

  • patsafan

I thought David sounded and looked amazing last night! He is way past the awkward stage…especially in concert. I listened to the song this morning, and on the third listen, where I really listened to the words, I cried. He really struck a chord in my life with this song, and I have to think, if you truly listened to the words, most people could relate. People upthread say it reminds them of John Denver..well JD, and Dan Fogelberg, are the only other singers who sang to my soul…now David does it tenfold!
I have decided as long as David continues to sing, I will listen. If he isn’t playing on my radio station, I will listen to a cd or ipod…best part, I won’t have to listen to the junk that is getting played. I think he will have a long career. Maybe someday a singer will come along years from now, and people will say, “maybe they should’ve gone the Archuleta route.” ;)

  • patsafan

Oops one more thing…He could’ve easily chosen to sing his single, but he chose to sing a song that was more appropriate for the occasion. He is truly selfless…

  • LK10

    He is truly selfless…

    That, he truly is…

  • tibitibis

    I loved the Tap Dance

Yeas, was great, the tap dancer girl from this season was there right? and i was hoping to see Lauren and Kent doing some dance but not :( . All of them did a great job for a GREAT cause , congratulations. :)

  • tibitibis

He’s better off going after the older demographic. Let’s see where Bieber is at in a few years. Probably celebrity rehab.

I hope not in both cases, I hope Justin don’t going to fall that hard and i hope David don’t gonna go only for the older demographic, i like some Groban stuff and some inspirational music too but please i will be disappointed if he do only this kind of music, i expect some messages songs on the album and is right and i even expect some especial projets with inpirational Josh G. type of music in the future, but now he’s young , with a great energy to share in the pop world.

His new songs have some variety in term of rythms and musical production, judging for the song we already know, but the ‘UP’ line is present in all 4 songs, until now the album look more young adult or older teen feeling that the first one with song like You Can, TBWY, Running,Angels etc……just my opinion

  • IndyMuse

I haven’t read back past one page. Did anyone but me catch Bo Bice? I didn’t see him mentioned in the OP, but that was the one part of the telethon I happened to see after randomly turning it on.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

well, unfortunately jive and the rest of the public doesn’t see it that way, so go figure,

I don’t give a shizz about what jive thinks. LOL.

  • heidijoy

Indy Muse No one mentioned Bo Bice. MJ must not have known Bo performed. MDA.org might have a video of it. Maybe you could e-mail MJ and give her a heads up.

Most of the discussion has been about David A but jump in and tell us what you thought of Bo’s Performance.

  • archiedoll

Ya know, I’m too tired to go through all the posts and quote them. I’m just gonna say..I really really liked this song. “Something ‘Bout Love” is still my favorite, but TAGTGB is a close second. I love the new vibe, just everything about it was cool. And I’m not just saying that as a fan. If David wasn’t singing it, I’d still love these 2 songs…Very, very good performance. And yes, David looks and acts like a pop star. Helllooo…

  • ggdoorsfan

I don’t give a shizz about what jive thinks. LOL.

that’s nice to know, lol – :) since allison is no longer is affiliated w/jive, she is free to yoke herself with another label who is willing to give her a deal, or she can go indie, and stick it to da man from outside the mainstream, lol… whichever way she goes, i don’t give a xxxx – she will be ok.

  • abbysee

BEAUTIFULLY sung. Really enjoyed it. And the song fits the occasion perfectly. I don’t know. Maybe I’m weird, but when I saw the performance I wasn’t thinking in terms of singles or charts or artistic direction.

It’s a telethon to raise money for MDA and the song seemed to fit the occasion and his performance was very heartfelt.

Worked for me and I’m leaving it at that.

That was the point wasn’t. Sometimes the appearance must fit the occasion. It’s not going to be on the radio, but then I don’t think that was the intention. David can sing anything. David will have another pop hit at some point. David has a fanbase that loves him with a passion so I don’t think they are worried about him singing in more than one genre. As a matter of fact, I actually think it’s an asset. Not a liability.

  • Grammie Kari

I ended up watching the MDA program for 8 hours, although I wasn’t in the room for the local segments. I was very surprised at how nice and humble Nigel was. His behavior made you like him. His closure speech was heartwarming, and he offered participation in next year’s show. Bravo Nigel.

I don’t know how anyone can resist David Archuleta. He is such a wonderful singer and just sweet as can be! He has a gorgeous voice and will have an enduring career. I still recommend the dance lessons, because Broadway is in his future. I don’t see Justin Bieber being around 10 years from now. Archie will be.

It’s a telethon to raise money for MDA and the song seemed to fit the occasion and his performance was very heartfelt.

Absolutely true! The song was perfect! He has such a great presence.

I didn’t enjoy Ace’s singing performance, but he was so funny in the “American Idol” audition segment. I couldn’t help but laugh over and over again. Also, glad to see Constantine be a part of this. No, Idol girls?

  • mhel

I really loved the song things are gonna get better by david! I’ve been listening to it non-stop since yesterday and it really moved me to tears! It felt like, he wrote this song for me….so relatable and so uplifting!!!

Bravo david and pls do more songs like this! You may not sell million of copies but you definitely give comforts and hope with lots of people!

  • Grammie Kari

I think David is capable of doing just about any genre! Watch for him on the Friday special, Stand Up 2 Cancer.

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

I’m not fan of Constantine, but that Rock of Ages performance was cheese-tastic. Worth watching for the choreography alone. LOL.

  • Yvonne13

So, is hosting going to be Nigel’s new sideline career, LOL? Nice PR move for Idol & company I suppose. Ace is looking mighty fine. I like Archie – keeping himself out there, unlike the other David (*dodges tomatoes*).
