The Soundscan sales figures for he BB 200 and the Hot 200 Digital songs sales have leaked at UKmix..

    http://www.ukmix.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=94531

The IdolChatter sales figures for Stronger appear to be incorrect. According to the list posted at UKmix:

    “151 CLARKSON*KELLY STRONGER (WHAT DOESN’T KILL YO 14,227 22 11,634 3,925,471″

Just a little less than 75,000 more downloads until 4 x platinum!

With debut of his album Phillip nudges his 6th Billboard #1 when ‘The World from the Side of the Moon’ tops Rock Albums chart.

It would also be #1 on Alterative Albums chart, but for some reason Billboard does not consider it such.
Who knows why, similar sounding Mumford & Sons and The Lumineers are listed on both. Dave Matthews Band though is only charting on Rock albums, feels rather arbitrary to me, but maybe that’s it.

Also ‘the World’ is second (after Rihanna) on Digital Albums chart.

And of course ‘Home’ tops Rock Digital Songs chart once again. If I am not mistaken that would be the third time the song makes this rise.

Not incorrect as such.  Idol chatter uses a direct chart which doesn’t include different versions of the same song.  Something Brian mentioned before I think.

I’m not sure why Billboard lists some artists on the charts that they do and not on others.  Cook fans had that discussion with the RCA online rep with David Cook’s release of This Loud Morning.  It would have debuted at #1 on the Rock charts, but Billboard only ranked it on BB 200.  The reason given by the rep was that BB had determined that he didn’t get enough play with his previous CD (David Cook) in the Rock format.  (He had released only one song to Rock – BarBaSol.)  Now P2 is a new artist with no prior history so their designations seem a bit arbitrary.

Is there anywhere in the US that a Carrie concert doesn’t draw well? Seems like when her numbers are posted every date is at least 90% capacity.

girlygirltoo: Is there anywhere in the US that a Carrie concert doesn’t draw well? Seems like when her numbers are posted every date is at least 90% capacity.

Keeping in mind that venue capacities are always adjusted based on what the promoter decides to put on sales and technical stuff (Carrie has a very large stage), I think her percent capacity numbers for all reported dates have been 90%+ and usually 95%+ (her average is obviously almost 98%). But, there’s definitely market variation as to how many people she’ll bring in. Her strongest markets seem to be in the Midwest but she usually gets big numbers in places like LA and wherever she plays around New York City (but, that’s probably because those are 2 highly populated cities). Calgary out in western Canada is always very big for her too, there’s a big country music fanbase out there.

Now P2 is a new artist with no prior history so their designations seem a bit arbitrary.

They are arbitrary tbh. Look at Taylor Swift’s Never Ever Like Whatever It’s Called. Billboard keeps calling it a country song despite her own label admitting it’s not country and the fact that it failed at country radio (it peaked at #13 but that was its debut week with Clear Channel hourly spins). This week it just tied Connie Smith’s classic Once A Day (which Carrie sang a snippet of at the CMAs, gorgeous) for the most number of consecutive weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart by a solo female. That’s a 58 year record! The only reason it’s been charting that high on Hot Country Songs in the 1st place is its pop radio play. Country radio isn’t playing it at all.

Meanwhile Mumford & Sons is close to making the Billboard Country Airplay chart with I Will Wait and is getting more country airplay than Taylor’s song but, they’re not allowed on the Hot Country Songs chart. It makes no sense.

  • LongKissGoodnight

Also Gone 3x have debuted on the Billboard’s Bubbling Under 100 chart at #12.

    Bubbling Under
12 NEW 1 Gone, Gone, Gone, Phillip Phillips

  • girlygirltoo

I think it has to do with what genre the album is labeled as when it is released, and also with whether they get enough radio play and/or promotion in a specific genre.

Wasn’t Cook’s album labeled as “pop” when it was released (at least on iTunes)?

Phillip’s album also may be considered too mainstream to be listed on the alternative charts. “Home” hasn’t gotten a ton of radio play on alt rock formats, although it was charting just outside the Top 40 on that format.

  • girlygirltoo

How does Carrie do when she plays Ottawa? Have they forgiven her yet for Mike Fisher getting traded to the Preds? :)

The BB charts are very arbitrary. I have a lot of WTF type reactions when I look at them these days…

  • girlygirltoo

If that song gets even 1/2 of the promo “Home” has received, it’s going to be a big hit (not as big as Home, but big)

  • wordnerdarchie

Wasn’t Cook’s album labeled as “pop” when it was released (at least on iTunes)?

DCTR was also labeled as POP at iTunes, however it was allowed to chart on BB Rock, so that’s not the reason.

The next week predictions are in.

YOUR TOP 15: Post-Black Friday brings the expected sales
drops, only one new release in the Top 15 and several Christmas titles
showing seasonal gains. Here’s how it looks headed into the weekend:

    * Alicia Keys (RCA) 150-160k
Rod Stewart “Merry Christmas Baby” (Verve) 130-140k
    Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 120-130k
    Phillip Phillips (19/Interscope) 80-85k
    One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 75-80k
    Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 70-75k
    Michael Bubl? “Christmas” (Reprise) 70-75k
Lady Antebellum “On This Winter’s Night” (Capitol Nashville) 65-70k
Blake Shelton “Cheers It’s Christmas” (Warner Bros. Nashville) 55-60k
    Kid Rock (Atlantic) 50-55k
    Now 44 (Capitol) 40-45k
Scotty McCreery “Christmas with Scotty McCreery” (Mercury Nashville/19/Interscope) 40-45k
    Keyshia Cole (Geffen) 35-40k
    P!nk (RCA) 35-40k
    Led Zeppelin (Atlantic) 30-35k
    Mumford & Sons (Glassnote) 30-35k
    Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 30-35k

    * Debut

Wow! If the predictions hold true that would be an excellent number for Phillip!
The week following Black Friday tends to see a higher percentage of sales drops because of overall reduced buying interest of the public (Christmas albums of course are exception to the rule.)

The tiny 50-53%  decline for ‘The World’ would be just sweet!…

  • tigervixxxen

I had a feeling things were going well this week. Phillip holding at 3 on iTunes with Rihanna down to 9 now. Of course big box stores can change that but good to see that holding in this prediction from HDD.

  • http://twitter.com/LexieONeill Lexie O’Neill

While Scotty would need higher than those numbers to reach gold by Christmas, still great to be looking at #11 on Billboard.:))  Here’s hoping for those numbers or even more:)

Top concert tours of the year…Brad Paisley (and Scotty) at #9 and Carrie at #13.  American Idol Live came in at #16…

That would be fantastic if Phillip ends up with that small a drop.

girlygirltoo: How does Carrie do when she plays Ottawa? Have they forgiven her yet for Mike Fisher getting traded to the Preds? :)

Ha! This’ll be her 1st time playing Scotiabank Place in Ottawa since the trade but, she headlined a festival in Ottawa about 6 months after the trade and the sales for her night and the reception were fantastic. As far as how this year’s Ottawa show is selling, they weren’t originally selling the whole arena: they were selling the floor, the 1st 2 levels, and 6 sections in the 300s (3 per side closest to the stage). But,  they’re currently selling 300 level seats in the back so, they’ve expanded the configuration way past they put on sale.

Lexie O’Neill: Top concert tours of the year…Brad Paisley (and Scotty) at #9 and Carrie at #13.  American Idol Live came in at #16…

Those aren’t the top tours for the year. They’re the top averaging grosses for a particular week, which depends on who was reporting which concerts at what time. Pollstar will come out with their top grossing 2012 tours list in early January 2013.

Nice 2nd week hold for P2 and good sales for Scotty’s Christmas album in that HDD prediction too!

  • jpfan2

Really hope those numbers hold up. One the drop would be under 60% which would be awesome and two, P2 would leapfrog Rihanna and OD ;0.

And it would put the album halfway to gold.

  • Aavari

I live there, and yes, I think the city has forgiven her. :-)

She was one of many headliners at Bluesfest this year, and I don’t recall any negative press. (I don’t listen to the country station, but I’m going to assume they were very supportive.)
