    Mediabase —

Daughtry up a bit on the pop chart. No other Idols in the Top 50 (currents)

    LW 23 TW 21 DAUGHTRY September 2944 2778 166 12.387

On HAC — Daughtry, Adam and Carrie in Top 40, Lee getting close. But September has peaked on HAC.

    LW 3 TW 5 DAUGHTRY September RCA/RMG 2009 3498 3789 -291
    LW 18 TW 22 ADAM LAMBERT If I Had You 19/RMG 2009 1047 1395 -348
    LW 33 TW 34 CARRIE UNDERWOOD Undo It 19/Arista 2009 504 499 5

Song with the biggest spin loss: “If I Had You” (Over a 300 spin loss) as it heads into the sunset — but for a Summer song, it was around a long time.

SS has three new stations that have not added it that gave it some spins —- if SS picks up these three stations, should be enough to push it into the Top 40….

Station Market Format TW lw Aud
    WOMX-FM Orlando Hot AC 4 0 0.006
    KURB-FM Little Rock Hot AC 4 0 0.004
    KMXB-FM Las Vegas Hot AC 2 0 0.008

Also there are some stations that added that are not spinning it much and a slight increase is all it needs. Hopefully when it gets into the HAC Top 40 RCA will start to support it more affirmatively.

Looks to me like AWM isn’t going anywhere. I never, never, never count Kris out so it could still do something but looking doubtful to me.

Song with the biggest spin loss: “If I Had You” (Over a 300 spin loss) as it heads into the sunset — but for a Summer song, it was around a long time.

Bye IIHY! Do you know where this song peaked on HAC?

  • Q3

IIHY Peaked at #15 on HAC published charts — same on rolling charts.

It peaked at #16 on the Pop published charts — #15 on rolling charts.

But the lifetime spin count for IIHY continues to grow — so like WWFM the peak chart position doesn’t really give a total picture of how much airplay the song got. It is over 6 months old now and still getting a lot of airplay. Oddly, it is even getting some AC airplay.

No surprise because it has happened with every Adam single — IIHY got more airplay outside of the US than in the US. :) Even TFM was a top 10 radio song in Asia.

  • Q3

Both WWFM and LLWD had such long lives on radio that peak rank doesn’t tell the full story. Both are over 200K spins for 2010.

WWFM and LLWD are currently in the YTD top 40 on three formats — Top 40, HAC and AC. LLWD will most likely be passed by a few songs before year end on Top 40, but WWFM might just hang on.

Both songs will get some airplay increases on the end-of-year hits shows.

Pop 34 ADAM LAMBERT Whataya Want From Me 99,307
HAC 7 ADAM LAMBERT Whataya Want From Me 92,952
AC 21 ADAM LAMBERT Whataya Want From Me 26,694
    Total spins 218,953

Pop 38 KRIS ALLEN Live Like We’re Dying 87,690
HAC 6 KRIS ALLEN Live Like We’re Dying 93,446
AC 17 KRIS ALLEN Live Like We’re Dying 30,071
    Total spins 211,207

LLWD had more total spins in 2009 and the songs are just about tied in total lifetime spins on these three formats!

  • girlygirl

those 3 new stations spinning SS are ones that have already been spinning AWM

Kris evidently told the OK! Magazine reporter last night that he has a list of pending radio shows — but that’s all she tweeted. So maybe they are gearing up for more of a push for AWM once he gets off the Lifehouse tour in a couple weeks? (just a wistful guess on my part)

  • dhunken

Q3 let me offer my thanks for a very comprehensive breakdown on WWFM LLWD and IIHY. Nice to know they are all get healthy spins.

  • artemis

Sweet Serendipity has moved up to #42 on the HAC chart.

I hope Jive starts supporting AWM-it’s a great, catchy song and should have been the second single.

Does Canada chart radio play? How is SW is doing there?

  • Kirsten

Does Canada chart radio play? How is SW is doing? there

No. We don’t actually have radios here. Although we have a lot of crystals here, they are of the ice variety which don’t tend to make good receivers. Our scientists are busy working on a solution and they tell us they are close to finding one (but they’ve been saying that for years).

What we do is gather around the bonfire and sing popular songs to each other. I don’t mean to brag, but I do a mean “Blah! Blah! Blah!” Once the bonfire melts through the ice and the water starts bubbling up from the lake, we all run for cover and call it a night.

I can never miss an opportunity for an ice joke.

Okay, yes, Mediabase and BDS both monitor Canadian stations. The format breakdown is different. The market is quite a bit smaller so there are fewer formats. HAC seems to be the dominant format in Canada, but Mediabase monitors the same number of HAC/Pop stations on it’s published panel (21 each). There are no individual Urban/UAC/Rhythmic/Christian format designations. There are 20 AC, 20 Mainstream Rock, 17 Active Rock, 13 Alt Rock and 23 Country stations monitored.

You can find these formats reported on AllAccess by switching the panel to be one of the Canadian ones. Adam’s Sleepwalker has not appeared on any of the Canadian charts yet.

You can find the BDS charts on Canoe. What I find intersting is that you can also get sales by city there which is sometimes interesting how music tastes differ from region to region.

Not an official stat, but this article puts the crowd at 16,000 at a Daughtry concert in South Africa a few weeks ago:

Also not an official stat but concert-related: Daughtry played the second night of a private concert in California a few nights later. Christina Aguilera played the first night and TMZ reported she was paid between $500,000 – $1 million for the event:

girlygirl- I really hope that they really are preparing to push AWM. It’s good to hear about the radio shows.

  • jpfan

Thanks for the Canadian chart info. ;) I don’t see Jive throwing any money at AWM. The album isn’t selling enough to justify that. I think it’s time to plan for album #2. Ditto for FYE.

  • Q3

The three new stations spinning SS are Idol regs and often support Idol singles early. So makes sense they would play AWM and SS.

Kris evidently told the OK! Magazine reporter last night that he has a list of pending radio shows — but that’s all she tweeted. So maybe they are gearing up for more of a push for AWM once he gets off the Lifehouse tour in a couple weeks? (just a wistful guess on my part)

Maybe :) — hard to mix radio promo trips with a tour unless you are the headliner and the station is sponsoring the concert in that market, so makes some sense.

But why did Jive just let is lay there all this time? They could have gotten airplay today for an interview or appearance in the future. Of course, there would still have a bill to be paid.

I do not recall any Idol who successfully promoted a single without label support. Even Kelly didn’t get much airplay for singles #2-#4 from My December after “Never Again” failed to enter the top 20 on Pop radio and RCA cut their losses and stop promotion on My December. No radio promo = no airplay. And “Sober” deserved to be promoted.

ITA on both. RCA has made it clear that there will be no more singles in the US from FYE.

Thankfully RCA has two interim release planned for Adam — FYE Acoustic EP (around Thanksgiving) and Concert DVD (first of the year). So no more US promotion of FYE but something to keep Adam fans engaged until the Spring and next single.

As girlygirl said Kris stated that he has a list of a bunch of radio gigs that are pending so it looks as if Jive is preparing for a push that will probably include a music video. So, they will be throwing money at it.

Or these pending radio gig’s are just the usually holiday shows like the Jingle Balls. There might not be actual radio promo work planned…will have to wait and see.

Lee has a new radio concert for 105.1 in Portland Dec. 13. Seems like another Lee radio concert pops up every day now. The ad says “starring American Idol Lee DeWyze, Andy Grammer, and more Idol surprises to come!” Maybe Kris? Do RCA and Jive artists appear at the same concerts? These are arranged by the record label aren’t they, or does 19 have something to do with it?

I don’t think Lee and Kris possibly being at the same radio show has anything to do with their being on the specific labels they are on. RCA and Jive artists do appear at the same event (Kris and Adam were at the same event in Boston earlier this year). These shows always seem to be about who the radio station sponsiroing thinks the listeners most want to hear from as well as some networking by the labels/management. While Lee might be on because of him being the new American Idol and something of a push from RCA/19, Kris, if he’s part of the show, could just be about who they think the audience wants to see.

The Jingle Balls are radio gigs, and these gigs are promotion. Since the public has to buy tickets to most of the jingle balls, the radio stations are going to be more inclined to talk up the artists who are appearing, as well as play their music.

  • jpfan

Jive is preparing for a push that will probably include a music video. So, they will be throwing money at it.

It was always rumored that the artist paid for the video or at least some of it. Kris makes good videos but without more radio support, I don’t see it making much difference.

Looks like some radio promo for David Archuleta is coming up..syndicated radio show, big stations including Philly, Tampa etc. Top 40 show.

I think it’s more like the situation with advances. The artist doesn’t receive any of the profit until the label gets the money back that they laid out for the advance, and the label fronts the money for the video, but they are going to get their money back before they pay the artist.

  • Elliegrll

Maybe — hard to mix radio promo trips with a tour unless you are the headliner and the station is sponsoring the concert in that market, so makes some sense.

Kris had a lot of radio gigs during the summer while he was opening for BNL and Maroon 5. There were some days where he played a radio show during the day, and then opened at night.

My understanding was that it was a 50/50 split on costs but the label would pay the upfront costs but could recoup half from the artist.
