Billboard is predicting that Home will sell 200K copies for the week.

Home sold 40,000 copies last week, an increase of 69% They also think that there’s a chance that the song will enter the top 20 on the Hot 100 chart next week. Everything depends on NBC airing the song again tonight and this weekend.

  • Anonymous

I haven’t seen recent numbers but if the BB prediction holds up the song will be at around 800K sold. I think platinum at that point is a lock.  Hopefully, NBC plays the song again and again. I also want to hear them play Elliott’s song again!

  • Anonymous

It says in that BB article that “Home” has sold 617K to date. So if it does do 200K for this week, it will zip right past the 800K mark.

Isn’t Seether one of the bigger rock bands at the moment? Those other bands are pretty popular too, aren’t they? So that has to help the touring numbers for Nickelback.

Does Daughtry even have an opener for this tour?

  • Anonymous

Sony is releasing a special edition of Daughtry’s current album, along with a DVD. I guess to support their upcoming tour opening for Nickelback?

Regarding Daughtry — some of their shows are doing really well.

He is booked at Musicfest, Bethlehem, PA (big venue) and has sold a ton of tickets. Nothing good is left. http://tix.artsquest.org/tickets/venue_areas.asp

Clay Center Concert only has 97 tickets left.

Many other concerts have high sales rates.

Perhaps this is a problem with concert promotion — it takes a lot of promotion to sell out an amphitheater in some of these smaller markets.

It also may be compounded by regional preferences — Daughtry’s style of music is not that popular in the mid-South – TN-MS-AL-LA. They have had trouble selling tickets here in the past. Nickleback just skips the mid-South completely. Their current tour included Atlanta, Florida, and Texas. It basically skipped the heart of the South.

Several days ago there was a lot of discussion as to whether or not Phillip was smart enough to take advantage of the success of ‘Home’….I think he realizes that now…the interview he did with the Orlando Sentinal he said that his album would be jazz/rock..acoustic…but then he added that there would be a couple of songs like ‘Home’….I think he is pretty smart!!

  • Anonymous

Another smart and simple move, tweeting congratulations to the women’s gymnastics team, and tweeting about the success of Home, and thanking people for buying it.

Both are small things that probably took him a few seconds to do, but they do have an impact.  He’s alerting people, including some in the media who follow or keep up with him, that the song is doing well, and telling them about a major accomplishment, he comes off as humble, and the news is something that people will keep in the back of their mind.

Not all of the alums made a habit of doing little things like this.

elliegrll: Not all of the alums made a habit of doing little things like this.

[ETA: You're absolutely right that it's worth doing. Forgot my manners in rush to leave office.]

Don’t they? I can recall Cook’s doing it with major tie-ins, but because of the progress of his album cycle, it was too long ago for me to be able to page back through Twitter for links. (But since every time he tweets, roughly 150 people RT it through my timeline, it’s difficult not to notice.) [ETA: I don't follow others, though, so have no idea about them.]

Michael McRell: the interview he did with the Orlando Sentinal he said that his album would be jazz/rock..acoustic…but then he added that there would be a couple of songs like ‘Home’…

Well, this was a foregone conclusion the moment Home had its huge opening-week sales. Interscope was never going to allow P2 not to include some similar-sounding songs on his album. But I’d agree it’s a healthy sign that he’s acknowledging the inevitable and no longer setting his fans up for a purely jazz-rock album that he never had a chance of delivering. I hope he does manage to mostly establish his own sound on his album.

Home is going to clean up tonight.  I feel like the song is almost more the coronation song of the US women’s gymnastics team rather than P2′s song.

  • Anonymous

Depends if they use it. Tonight is individual event — not team event. If NBC was only using it for the team competition, we won’t hear it

I have a feeling that they will use it.  Women’s gymnastics equals ratings, and part of the reason for that is the stories.  Gabby and Ally won’t be the only ones who the network will highlight, it’s a given that the will spend TOO much time talking about Jordyn, and to do that there will need to be an introduction, which is where Home will come into play.

  • Anonymous

Hmmm? I actually think that that kind of savvy graciousness is in fact typical of the modern era Idols, and the humble-brag is pretty much standard operating procedure. Lol. I’m impressed by Phillip’s tweets, but I certainly don’t think that he is unique in this regard.

  • Anonymous

He’s not unique, especially not among artists, even those who aren’t from AI, but there are some alums who could learn to be more consistent with how they use twitter to promote themselves, especially when they are coming right off of the show.

  • Anonymous

They didn’t use “Home” on the Olympics coverage tonight (at least not as of 11 pm ET)
