So Justin Bieber, who can’t sing, easily sells out concerts.  But Jackie Evancho and Pentatonix, who definitely can sing, don’t.  :(

Phillip Phillips Concert Moved to Bigger Venue

The concert……has been moved……adding an additional 1,000 tickets. “Due to the overwhelming interest, we felt like a change in venue was necessary,” Logan Light, director of campus life, said. “Our first sale date saw 1,000 tickets go in a little more than five hours. We don’t want anyone to miss this limited opportunity

The season 11 winner’s coronation song, “Home,” achieves pole position on two more charts this week, bringing his career total of No. 1s to 10. That moves him up into a tie for ninth place among all Idols for the largest grand total of chart-toppers, tied with Adam Lambert and Scotty McCreery.

Very exciting news about the larger venues for P2′s college tours. I think the college shows are working very well. I’d love to see some of the videos from the shows posted here.

  • justmefornow

And he doesn’t even sing during those concerts. Remember the video where he was throwing up on stage and the track of him singing kept singing on, LOL

I expect to see good numbers from Pentatonix in the next 4 months, I went to their concert at the Warfield in SF and it was packed – seats around 2400.  They got the rock star treatment, the crowd screaming throughout.  I think they are the best “all ages” show going right now.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Great! I’m hoping that Pentatonix manages to attract a solid fanbase. They are SO talented!

  • ceecee21

Since Kris Allen always seems to be a favorite here at MJ’s, why no numbers from his Out Alive tour?  I for one would be interested to know.

  • http://twitter.com/tinawinabina Tinawina

If you have ‘em, post ‘em. If Kirsten didn’t put them up it usually means she hasn’t seen any published yet.

  • mjsbigblog

Kirsten posts the numbers that are available. We doen’t have an expensive subscription to Pollstar, we can only drop the numbers that become public for one reason or another.

There are a ton of artists whose numbers never get published here on the blog, simply because they are not available. It has nothing to do with whether they are “popular on the blog” or not.

  • girlygirltoo

Unless the venues or promoter or artist reports the concert stats to Billboard or Pollstar, we don’t have access to those numbers. It’s similar to why we usually can’t get access to people’s album sales unless they show up in the Top 200 on Soundscan — unfortunately, these stats are not intended for the general public, just for industry people. :)

  • girlygirltoo

Has Pentatonix released any original music? I saw that they are going to be at SXSW this year (along with Kris and Crystal).

  • girlygirltoo

This is good news for Phillip. Suggests that he has a chance of  building a longterm fanbase among the college aged crowd.

  • elliegrll

Kris’ tour doesn’t have a promoter like Live Nation or AEG, so the chances are small that his totals will be released to Pollstar.

He may or may not play in a venue that is managed by them, or another promoter, so we may get to see the attendance for some shows.

Concert Review: Matchbox Twenty, Phillip Phillips In San Antonio. (Of course, it’s Season 11. But then it’s only a good thing if they do not follow AI:)

As far as the opening act, Phillip Phillips did an extraordinary job with a great 7-song acoustic set. The winner of season 12 of American Idol left it all on the stage after a hard day of promotion at radio stations throughout the city. We got to meet him earlier at a local radio station. The highlights of his set were a cover of Eminem’s “Loose Yourself” and, of course, his first big hit, “Home.” He showed approval of the reception the San Antonio crowd had for him and provided a good little opening before the big appearance by Matchbox Twenty.

  • Hugh29

They’ve released two original songs on their first EP, their next album will likely have four or more.  I saw them perform an original that Avi wrote called “The Peaceful War”.  I don’t think it will be too difficult for them to produce original music because they have such a rich palette of sounds to work with, they can make almost anything sound good.

Gone, Gone, Gone is about to enter top 40 on AAA.

KGSR-FM in Austin is the 4th AAA station to start spinning GGG, so now it is on the verge of breaking in top 40 of the chart (likely tomorrow).

    71 41 PHILLIP PHILLIPS Gone, Gone, Gone 77 39 38 0.492
    +8 Spins
    +5 Bullet
    +0.018 AI

So GGG is definitely going to be in top 40 by the time of it’s adds date (February 11), possible event top 30. In order to get there GGG would have to double its spins, but with a few more early adopters and increases at the stations that have already added it’s doable.

It’s like watching the baby bird attempting to fly for the first time.
    Exiting! (And a bit scary…)

    Reminder:

Can we keep this thread focused on stats and numbers? Concert news and reviews go in the Headlines thread.

The daily numbers thread is all about numbers numbers and more numbers. And this is the place for them.
