Canada loves P2. GGG is #47 on iTunes and his album is #3 on the album chart. Home is #5 on iTunes as well.
Time to promote P2 to some other friendly markets: Australia, New Zealand for example.

  • justmefornow

Wow, I thought less than 3000 seat American venues for “Overseas Arena Adam” were bad until I saw these numbers for Clay. He really has lost a lot of his fan base.
    That’s a shame.

  • girlygirltoo

That’s also a Christmas tour, and I’m not sure if those type of tours would be as popular as a more standard one. But yeah, it does seem like Clay’s fanbase has eroded over the years.

  • girlygirltoo

Gone Gone Gone is #114 on iTunes this morning.

I may have to check out A$AP Rocky — he’s got 9 singles in the Top 150 (his album just dropped)

I think, however, in this day and age, with money being the way it is for some, those tallies seem pretty good for Clay. Additionally, there have been so many winners since Clay and Idol fans tend to shift their loyalties to others (I include
myself in both categories). One of those arenas is Verona, NY. I’m a native NYer and I’ve never heard of that city. But…I do agree that Clay’s fan base isn’t what it use to be. But I also agree with girlygirltoo that those were Xmas shows and that is another reason for lower sales.

I think other than perhaps Carrie, Kelly and maybe even Chris Daughtry, the days of hoping an Idol singer, whether winner or otherwise, will sell out huge arenas are over unless either Idol does more consistent promotion or someone gets a new label/manager who can promote the heck out of them. To be honest, I really enjoy a more intimate venue anyway and I hate how Idol singers are compared as to who is the most successful by concert and record sales totals. There are various degrees of “successful” and I think many Idol alumni fall into that category, even though the media would disagree.

Also, I have no idea what Taylor Hicks brings in, but I guess he brings in a good amount as I read (probably here) that his sold out Vegas show is moving to a bigger venue. I guess I’m kind of surprised he’s not on this list.

I woud think also, that shows with more than one artist or performing with extremely popular artists (like Bieber) would bring in more money. I do realize that Carly Rae’s song is a mega hit, but I have no idea how popular she’d be without Bieber’s name. And I have no idea who Ed Sheeran is as I don’t watch any of the other contest type shows. All this… JMHO.

  • bestmusic

I agree that most Idol alumni are not going to sell out huge arena`s like Clay used too do. The money and loyalty is just not there.
Clay of course like all performers looses fans along the way. I also thought his tour did fine as he has no CD out to promote. That is why the alumni have to learn to be diverse has he has. Taylor in Vegas, some do Broadway, TV. I like that so many have been able to follow a dream and make a living from what they love too do.

Since Adam never did tour in the US to support his last CD we will never know how many seats he would sell.

  • curly_yenta

I don’t think resident headliner attendance stats are reported to Pollstar. That’s prolly why Taylor’s show at Bally’s last year isn’t reported.  But ya, the fact he’s moving to a larger venue proves he doing just fine.

I agree that these Idolettes, winners or not, must diversify in the entertainment business or they’ll fade out quicker than a pet rock.  IF you’re extremely lucky, like Underwood and Clarkson, you catch on with the mainstream for a longer time, but they are the exception, not the rule.

Those whose names are still on billboards,… like Clay and Taylor, for the long haul, will ultimately be the success stories, not those quick out of the gate and fade just as fast.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Actually, the attendance at Clay’s Christmas tour was better than the tour he had to support his last album “Tried and True”, so in his case, his Christmas tour was better attended than the tour with his own music.

  • mouse999

I think that his South Africa concerts in Capetown and JoBurg were in arenas much bigger that 3,000. Both sold-out. Check the facts.

Sorry, this should be reply to “justformenow”.

  • fuzzywuzzy

For major resident headliners at Vegas resorts/hotels, boxscores are reported. For example, from Billboard boxscores:

    $250, $175, $140, $55

    18 Barry Manilow
Paris Theatre at Paris Las Vegas
    Las Vegas, Nev.
    Dec. 7-11, 2011

  • ceecee21

Adam also has several concerts coming up in Feb/Mar, some are smaller venues but in some venues 2nd and 3rd performances were added because the first night sold out.
Here are just a few of Adam’s scheduled concerts Shanghai, 5,000, Hong Kong 3600, Singapore 5,000, Minsk Belarus 4800, Moscow Russia 7500, Kiev Russia 10,000, St Petersburg Russia, 12,000 and Helsinki Finland 13,000.  Finnish fans were saying yesterday there were fewer than 500 tickets available and the conert isn’t until March.  Those venue sizes aren’t arenas, but certainly respectable.

  • curly_yenta

Well I guess if your Elton John, Barry Manilow and Celine Dion, you get the honor of getting your numbers reported, but I can assure you that other headliners in Vegas, like Taylor, do not…. because the venue is smaller.  Paris Hotel and Casino now has 3 of them…. Jersey Boys, Anthony Cools and Taylor Hicks, and as far as I can see, none of those are reported.  The only important thing is that he’s filling up the venue he’s in, and that is awesome! ;)

  • justmefornow

My post was more about Clay, but for the record I said AMERICAN VENUES less than 3000 seats.
We know he can still draw bigger crowds overseas. Acts tour where they can get the biggest draw, that only makes sense.
IMO, if Adam’s sales of his second album were higher in the US he probably wouldn’t be touring overseas. Especially if his management believed he could pull those overseas seating capacities here.
You go where the money is. That’s all I meant.

  • Trina

I booked my annual Vegas trip this week and of course I’m getting lots of e-mails with recs for the hottest shows, some discounted, some full price. I havent heard anything about Taylor’s show. In fact i got an e-mail from Vegas.com with a link to their site pointing out the current hottest shows they have
    http://www.vegas.com/mytrip/app/Products/show?searchCat=Genre:genre%20-%20Concerts
If he starts really packing in crowds i guarantee he’ll start popping up all over this site.

  • mouse999

Maybe I misunderstood what you said, ” American venues for overseas arena Adam” was a little confusing for me.
    My bad.
    Peace.

  • curly_yenta

I’m not a Clay fan, but being a Vegas headliner is a big deal for anyone… that’s why some of the biggest stars seek long term residencies there.  As far as Clay, I think he’d do quite well there, since many of the guests are older and he appeals to a slightly older crowd.  There are quite a few small to mid-size venues in Vegas in the major hotels and he could easily fill those up, just like Taylor is doing.  Don’t compare every entertainer to the mega-stadiums long established acts like Celine and Elton could fill  You can do quite well there, for a loooong time, on a smaller scale.

  • Nadine_Bitch

”IMO, if Adam’s sales of his second album were higher in the US he probably wouldn’t be touring overseas.”

What?! He did 36 concerts internationally and 77 domestically on his FYE Era and his cd did sell well. I’m not sure why he wouldn’t be touring internationally if TSP sold well.

”Especially if his management believed he could pull those overseas seating capacities here.”

First, we really don’t know the reason behind not touring domestically this era though Adam hinted he’s preparing for new music.

Second, we don’t know how many seats he would fill until he will actually tour this year. The concert with Cindy was for charity and Adam sang only 1 song and another duet with Cindy. That radio concert with One republic, who knows if the radio station actually booked for a larger venue and it would still sold out.

Lastly, Adam’s GNT venues varies from 1200- 8000 seats with so many 2k and 3k venues. Domestically, he really just toured in medium size venues compared to his big venues internationally. I think his largest were Phillipines & Malaysia(where he played in Stadium) with 17k. If I will not include the Balloon festival in Canada with 50k people. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glam_Nation_Tour

  • Anny_nanny

Kiev is the capital of Ukraine, it’s not Russia.
In Moscow Adam will act in a smaller concerts-hall than in St. Petersburg, but it is a luxury hall with a professional acoustics (but I don’t know where he will perform in St.P.). I saw the poster today – there there are concerts of top stars who can raise the sellout and when the organizers know that the public will go on the outskirts of the city. I want to see how Adam gather hall here, it will indicator.

  • http://twitter.com/LaCingara Cingara

According to a poster on this site that attended, Adam’s concert at the Arizona State Fair drew 6,000 – the venue said between 7,000-9,000. And all of his summer radio concerts and a few of his own drew very well too, including Costa Mesa, Cal. in July – probably between 7,000-8000 as it was almost sold out and holds 8,500. Not every summer concert was posted here btw. He did about 15 from May thru October, with European and Pacific dates in between.

That’s what will happen to any idol alum who is basically out of the public eye, and who isn’t able to release music that will keep fans interested.

Clay’s fans were fans of the guy who was on AI, and that type of loyalty isn’t going to last forever, it has to be backed up with music that the fans like.  The same thing will happen to other alums, who aren’t able to get their music out to a mass audience.

  • http://twitter.com/TarheelShari Sharon S.

IMO, if Adam’s sales of his second album were higher in the US he probably wouldn’t be touring overseas. Especially if his management believed he could pull those overseas seating capacities here.

An international fanbase is not a consolation prize, and the ability to tour internationally is a valuable potential revenue stream for the artist – and, directly or indirectly, for the record label.  As others have stated, Adam did one-offs and various radio concerts in the U.S. last year, and drew numbers that many more established artists would be happy to have.  Now he’s smart to get back in front of his international fans, and put some very nice money in his pocket, before returning to the studio for Album #3.  And I’d be surprised if Adam didn’t do some nice one-offs for his North American fans during the spring and summer.

  • Nadine_Bitch

Huh? Home is out of POP chart? when did this happened? Last time I noticed it was still on top 10 and it wasn’t that long time ago, or was it?

  • girlygirltoo

It fell out of the Top 10 and went recurrent last week

  • girlygirltoo

well, that’s not good. Is that the tour he did with Ruben?

  • Nadine_Bitch

”An international fanbase is not a consolation prize, and the ability to
tour internationally is a valuable potential revenue stream for the
    artist”

Right. And the fact there are only Few Idols who can actually headline a tour internationally, it becomes a big achievement for those few who can. I can only think of Kelly, Daughtry and Adam who really successfully toured worldwide. Carrie starting to have few dates in UK, Oz & Ireland. Then we have the Davids who ruled the Asia:)

  • justmefornow

*Sigh* I never said touring overseas was some kind of consolation prize. Adam is lucky for his international draw, he can still tour larger venues overseas, regardless of current music sales, not ever ex-Idol can do that.
    Good for him.

My point was just that if his sales had been greater in the US for album #2, indicating a greater interest in his new music, I’m pretty certain his management would have booked a fairly good size tour here IN ADDITION to overseas.
Latest album sales sometimes dictate the scope of a current tour and what an artist can draw in terms of venue size, touring mates, etc.

  • http://twitter.com/TarheelShari Sharon S.

That isn’t what you said.  “IMO, if Adam’s sales of his second album were higher in the US he probably wouldn’t be touring overseas” says something quite different.

  • waitingforthe1

I agree that most Idol alumni are not going to sell out huge arena`s like Clay used too do

Clay NEVER sold out huge arenas on his own.  He did on the IT tour with Kelly but solo he never filled a venue that was larger than 7-8K which isn’t arena size.

  • bridgette12

I could almost swear that this same discussion about Adam happened just a couple of days ago.

  • Nadine_Bitch

”Latest album sales sometimes dictate the scope of a current tour and
what an artist can draw in terms of venue size, touring mates, etc.”

You might be right, but then if cd sales is one big factor of touring or not touring by an Artist then how can we explain Kris and Lee’s tour? Adam certainly did sell well compare to them.

I think sales is just a small fraction of determining if one can tour or not. In Adam’s case I believed his management & label have plan something for him that they thought he’d rather do than touring.

  • jpfan2

Gone,Gone, Gone #110 on iTunes.  Getting a little closer to the top 100 but not quite there yet. ;0

  • justmefornow

*Sigh Again* That’s what I meant, and I assumed pretty much everyone understood what I meant by: “Especially if his management believed he could pull those overseas seating capacities here.”

Anyway, I really don’t care. Good for Adam, Good for Clay, Good for everyone.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I agree, but your original post stated this:

“I don’t think resident headliner attendance stats are reported to Pollstar. ”

which is not necessarily true. It depends on the kind of headliner.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that Clay would do well in a small venue in Vegas. His show banter is pretty cheesy and corny, and targeted to older audiences. lol

  • fuzzywuzzy

“Clay’s fans were fans of the guy who was on AI, and that type of loyalty isn’t going to last forever, it has to be backed up with music that the fans like.”

True for anyone coming off Idol. Clay never established himself musically beyond his Idol fans.

  • fuzzywuzzy

No, that tour was the “Timeless” tour and drew better than the solo tour Clay did after that to promote “Tried and True” his latest CD. I think that Clay misjudged his fans and thought that they would like him singing old “standards” more than they did. I read comments from many fans that the music on T&T appealed more to their parents than it did to them. lol

  • curly_yenta

Right, cuz only older folks like cheesy shows……….. like American Idol. ;)

  • fuzzywuzzy

lol Well, why do you think that the median age for the Idol viewing demographic is now over 50? ;)

  • bestmusic

If you believe that I have a bridge I would like to sell you as well.
Touring is a singers bread and butter. Adam not touring in the US only hurts his chance of record sales on his next CD. No radio, no tour. Out of sight, out of mind.

  • mouse999

Adam might still decide to tour when he comes back from overseas. His current crew is identical to what he had before, except instead 4 dancers he has now 2 dancers and two backup singers.
    We will see.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“You might be right, but then if cd sales is one big factor of touring or not touring by an Artist then how can we explain Kris and Lee’s tour? Adam certainly did sell well compare to them.”

It depends on the kind of tour. Kris and Lee are doing acoustic tours of very small venues, and Adam could do that, but that’s not the “style” of show that I think Adam wants to have.

“I think sales is just a small fraction of determining if one can tour or not. In Adam’s case I believed his management & label have plan something for him that they thought he’d rather do than touring.”

That’s certainly possible, but I find it very hard to believe that had “Trespassing” sold well in the U.S. that Adam would not be mounting a nationwide tour to support it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/richard.mccall.77 Richard Mccall

I really think the reason Adam has been doing one off rather than a tour is he has a limited tour with Queen in the works and that is something you cannot turn down. They will sell out anything they book and I for one will be at one of them. I will fly to where ever.  cheers  rmm

That’s certainly possible, but I find it very hard to believe that had
“Trespassing” sold well in the U.S. that Adam would not be mounting a
    nationwide tour to support it.

It’s probably why his label wants him back in the studio quick. I don’t think Adam would have a problem putting a US tour to 2-3k venues but he’ll be playing to his fans since he has no single on radio at the moment. I do see his management booking one off gigs to larger venues like the Arizona concert at 5k-7k knowing his fans would fly all over the world to see him but again it would be playing to his fanbase. It’s smarter to get new music out there and hope for radio play. I don’t think he’s hurting for money. The international shows pays a lot more than US shows.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/HWRPW434YQTROZ3J5E4BSLWEYM H.A.

Yes, I smell something cooking and the Queen’s keyboard player keepsdropping hints. Knowing Adam’s management with the reception he got overseas and Queen fans giving the thumbs up I think we may get a Queen/Trespassing tour like they did with Paul Rogers

I think other than perhaps Carrie, Kelly and maybe even Chris Daughtry,
the days of hoping an Idol singer, whether winner or otherwise, will
sell out huge arenas are over

I may be wrong but I don’t think I’ve seen Kelly or Daughtry selling out huge arenas. I think Carrie is the only one who can do it here in the US.

  • girlygirltoo

Kelly can still sell out arenas. Daughtry, not so much anymore, although they probably did right after Idol. These days, they tend to play venues in the 3000 seat range (for headlining shows, anyway; when they opened for Nickelback, they were playing arenas)

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/HWRPW434YQTROZ3J5E4BSLWEYM H.A.

Can someone tell me what size would arenas be considered. I’m thinking 10k and up.

  • LongKissGoodnight

RCA should top both the album and singles sales charts next week, as A$AP Rocky and Justin Timberlake
(with expected first-week sales in the neighborhood of 350k) make noise
in an otherwise typical January sales week. Here’s how it looks headed
    into the weekend:

    * A$AP Rocky (RCA) 140-150k
    * Kidz Bop Kids (Razor & Tie) 65-70k
    Les Mis?rables (Republic) 40-45k
    Bruno Mars (Atlantic) 35-40k
    Pitch Perfect (UMe) 35-40k
    Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 35-40k
    Lumineers (Dualtone) 27-30k
    Mumford & Sons (Glassnote) 21-24k
    Phillip Phillips (19/Interscope) 20-23k
    One Direction (Syco/Columbia) 18-21k
    Chris Tomlin (Six Steps) 18-21k
    Adele (XL/Columbia) 18-21k
    Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 17-20k
    Kendrick Lamar (Aftermath/Interscope) 17-20k
    Imagine Dragons (Interscope) 17-20k
    T.I. (Grand Hustle/Atlantic) 17-20k

    * Debuts

As expected Phillip is positioned to make a comeback into top 10.It is interesting to see three folk-rock acts with the main buzz (well part folk-rock in Phil’s case) tightly grouped together on the chart. And only few positions down the line is a fellow Interscope indy-rock newcomer Imagine Dragons selling very nicely. A new wave indeed.

  • Hugh29

I ended up having to get Pentatonix tickets from a re-seller for the San Francisco show and believe all of their upcoming shows, which they are headlining, are selling out.  It’s going to be an awesome year for them.

  • stargazed

Someone upthread said that Clay’s fans were from his Idol days.  Wrong.  Clay has evolved into a hell of an entertainer.  Sure, he has lost fans along the way as most entertainers do, but he has also picked up new fans.  His appearance on  Apprentice brought a bevy of new fans to the table.   When radio won’t play your music, you have to be innovative.

On another topic, there was great hoopla about Adam’s third single… then the subject was dropped.  Anyone know what happened?

  • fuzzywuzzy

Clay may have gained some fans from the CA, but that didn’t translate into CD or concert ticket sales, so that hasn’t helped his singing career. It pretty clear that he’s lost far more fans than he has gained over the years, and it remains to be seen if Clay can sustain a career in the entertainment business in a direction other than singing/performing.

  • stargazed

Do you have the facts on Lambert and his third(?) single?  The talk about it ended abruptly.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I haven’t followed that discussion, and it’s off topic for this thread. I think that there was a lengthy discussion on one of the previous headline threads, so you can try there for the latest update. It would probably be more informative to check out one of Adam’s fan message boards.

  • springboard2

I didn’t know that Adam was releasing of third single!

  • fuzzywuzzy

lol OK. Clearly I have no clue about that.

  • jpfan2

Nice. It looks like P2′s album will return to the to 10 this week.

I don`t believe anyone knows if it translated into ticket sales or not. It would be a total guess on your part. At a couple of his concerts people from the crowd actually said they had come because they had seen him on CA.
I think it has been said that after 10 years Clay has lost fans. Beating a dead horse.

  • fuzzywuzzy

If Clay has really gained a “bevy” of fans from the CA (as was stated, and I don’t see any evidence of this), then as I said, attendance stats would have shown that. Or, maybe, the poor attendance would have been even worse without new fans from CA, so you may be right. lol And Clay started losing fans pretty quickly after Idol, but he had such a massive fan base to start with that even though it was noticeably dwindling, it was still enough to carry him for years.

  • bestmusic

I don`t believe I said the word “bevy”.Maybe you should look again. I also never said he had poor attendence LOL.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I wasn’t referring to your post, but the post that I originally responded to regarding Clay acquiring a “bevy” of new fans from CA here:

    http://www.mjsbigblog.com/idols-in-concert-%e2%80%93-stats-%e2%80%93-011713.htm#comment-771663334

The poor attendance isn’t really debatable, but as I said, you may be right that the attendance would have been even worse without new fans from CA.

I never said that you did. I said there were people who went to the show that had seen him on CA. Neither you or myself have any clue why any of the people went to his show.Which by the way was very good. it is total speculation. If you were not referring to my post then you need to make yourself much clearer. Once again beating a dead horse.

”Wow, I thought less than 3000 seat American venues for “Overseas Arena Adam” were bad…..”

I was just thinking if Daughtry who we all considered one of the most successful Alum and could only fill 2-3k seat then it must be great for someone like Adam who could sell the same numbers of seat. Besides, Adam never toured in Arena on his FYE era except internationally, so I don’t think his management/label expect him to suddenly fill arena on this era.

Sorry if I kind of confused you:)

Happy to see another Mack fan! I know OT. But it always reminds me of the alternative ways to get music out there, and how massive exposure on a TV show compares.

“I said there were people who went to the show that had seen him on CA. Neither you or myself have any clue why any of the people went to his show.”

    But you actually stated this:

” At a couple of his concerts people from the crowd actually said they had come because they had seen him on CA.”

which indicates that these attendees came to the show due to Clay’s appearance on the CA. Are you now saying that is not correct? Regardless, t’s not unreasonable to think that some people who saw Clay on the CA went to see his show because of that appearance (self-promotion is a big reason why these celebs go on the show in the first place). The initial statement that was made by the other poster was that Clay had gained a lot (=”bevy”?) of fans from the CA. So, that claim plus your statement about people saying that they were there “because” of Clay’s CA appearance does suggest that some people decided to see Clay’s show for that reason. My point was that even with these “new” fans, the attendance at Clay’s shows was generally poor, so that these new fans hardly were able to compensate for a further loss of fans from Idol.

ETA: Also, there are people at Clay’s shows who were “dragged” there. lol
