It surprises his many, many fans because he was so HUGELY popular and should have done much better. Did not get the backing he should have and deserved to get from AI/Clive.

W/E 5/27/07 3,016 sold for a total of 682,000

Jordin’s EP was number 22 and Blake’s was number 30 on the BB Comprehensive Album chart. This chart monitors all ablums sold including those ineligible for the BB200 (either because they are older than two years or are exclusive to a certain vendor).

We don’t have the BB200 sales numbers so far this week, but we do have the HDD ones which are estimates. So, we are going to interpolate between two estimates which just tells you that this is a very rough guess (I can’t say that enough), but it will give a ballpark range for sales.

The following is, chart position on Comprehensive Album, artist’s name, HDD estimate (for Elliott, SS number):

So my understanding is she debuted #14 on Hot 100 Single Sales.

Following week moved to #1 on single sales and then debuted #1 on the Hot 100.

Maybe my fact checking is wrong but that’s what I remember because the press made a really, really big deal out of it.

The third season “American Idol” winner bows on Billboard’s Hot 100 Singles Sales a week early at No. 14 because of street-date violations and is predicted to open with 150,000 copies. The single likely needs to move 125,000-140,000 copies to nab the top slot of the Hot 100.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 

I do wish fact checkers would actually check facts…

Kelly Clarkson’s march to world domination has begun.

Released to radio stations shortly after the September 4 show finale, the single had been languishing on the pop singles chart. A week ago, it was number 52. But that ranking was based on radio airplay alone. Once the single was released in stores on September 17, it took off, jumping 51 spots to number one (a new Billboard record) and selling a staggering 236,000 copies for the week ended Sunday, according to SoundScan figures.

Is this mostly based on downloads because they havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t gotten much radio play? Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m guessing Taylor made it on sales of the single because (again) he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get much radio play.

Yes, they are based mainly on sales, but the Idols always get at least a tiny bit of airplay for their coronation single. They are competing against artists that are getting a lot of airplay though, so they have to sell a lot more units to compensate in order to get into the top 10.

For instance, Jordin was #9 on the download chart yet on the Hot 100 she was behind Pink who was #22 on the download chart.
