Idol Sales News – Week Ending 11/10/13

SoundScan declares that Eminem has the biggest selling album of the week with 792K in sales. HDD estimates that he sold more than the top 2-32 albums combined. “Marshall Mathers LP 2” had the second best sales of the year and the 6th best week in the last 5 (FIVE) years!

1.2M Taylor Swift “Red” 2012
1.1M Lady Gaga “Born This Way” 2011
1M Taylor Swift “Speak Now” 2010
968K Justin Timberlake “20/20 Experience” 2012
964K Lil Wayne “The Carter Iv” 2011

This will be Eminem’s 7th number 1 album. Impressive numbers.

HDD has Kelly Clarkson in 6th with a relatively small 39% drop in her second week (damn ducks!). Pentatonix continue to make it happen by getting a top 10 album on a small label for their second studio album. Their first album opened with 20K in sales and this one is predicted to top 30K in sales. Not many reality singing show contestants sell more with their second album. Add in that they came off of a summer reality singing show that was subsequently cancelled (and now revived), they don’t get much airplay and they are in a quirky genre and they still sell more than the winners of some higher profile shows with their debut albums. It may not be Eminem numbers, but I’m still impressed. Susan Boyle from BGT’s sees a 15% up-tick in sales, Scotty continues to have lower than expected drops in his fourth week as does Cassadee Pope in her fifth. Carrie Underwood climbs back into the top 50.

Gaga released her album on Monday, but HDD is not doing their official one-day predictions until today.

This is the weekly sales thread. Please post numbers as you find them. Thanks!

Updated: Soundscan numbers from Billboard

Pentatonix comes in at #10 on the BB200 with  – 31K sales. “That easily trumps their earlier high-water mark, when “PTX: Volume 1″ debuted and peaked at No. 14 with 18,000 back in 2012. They followed it with a holiday collection later that year, which reached No. 45 from a 12,000 launch.”

The Robertsons’ “Duck the Halls: A Robertson Family Christmas” — actually GREW in sales. It improved by 5% in its second week.

Kelly Clarkson’s “Wrapped In Red” — falls from No. 3 to No. 6 with 43,000 (down 39%).

On the Digital Songs Chart, “Say Something,” the song Christina Aguilera sang with A Big New World on last Monday’s edition of The Voice, debuts at No. 1 with 189,000 sold (up 1,761%).
