Go Crush! Going gold real soon.

  • gingerly

Very nice jump for Archie :) Radio is definitely selling the song now. Platinum in how long?

  • IGetCranked

This was the week Archie’s video came out. I-tunes had his face front and center that week. I’m sure that helped alot. I’m so tickled for him!

  • Kirsten

Please not that the above numbers are the Top 50 song from the download charts plus a few extra songs that have made à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“interestingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ gains in the top 200. Later today, Ken Barnes at Idol Chatter (USA Today) will come out with the full list of Idols in the top 200. We get data as it dribbles out.

Here is some of the airplay chart (this is a differential from last week so the numbers in brackets are gains or losses in millions of audience impressions since last week).

    No. 12 – Jordin Sparks ( 5.1 million) lw 14
    No. 16 – Leona Lewis ( 8.1 million) lw 20
    No. 18 – Jennifer Hudson ( 3.7 million) lw 23
    No. 48 – Daughtry ( 2.4 million) lw 54
    No. 57 – David Archuleta ( 2.6 million) lw 64

Jennifer is at number 4 on the R&B airplay chart

I just thought I’d post some stats that the amazing 2m over at Pulse has started to publish (in the Digital Songs – 2008 YTD & All Time) thread. Here are the stats as of last week’s numbers:

    Biggest sellers since 2005
4 “Bleeding Love” Leona Lewis 3,137,938
17 “Bad Day” Daniel Powter 2,555,197 (first song to sell 2 Million downloads)
19 “Before He Cheats” Carrie Underwood 2,470,701
20 “No Air” Jordin Sparks 2,464,998

Biggest sellers of 2008 to date (1 million sellers)
1 “Bleeding Love” Leona Lewis 3,137,938
5 “No Air” Jordin Sparks 2,464,998

Note that this only includes sales for 2008 (e.g. Tattoo sales were spread over two years) and sales while the song was in the Top 200.

What I find interesting is that “No Air”s success is often attributed soley to Chris Brown, but Chris Brown’s biggest all time seller is “Kiss Kiss” at number 30 (2,281,991) and his biggest seller this year is “Forever” at number 14 (1,708,343). I’m not going to try to claim that he didn’t help to make that song popular (and perhaps was a major part), but it would appear that it was the biggest sales hit that he’s ever had so Jordin and the song must have played their part too. Jordin moved 1.75 million copies of “Tattoo” on her own, so she’s no slouch. BTW, biggest all time seller is “Low” by Flo Rida (4,268,871) and 36 songs so far this year have sold 1M . 10 have sold 2M and only one has sold 3M .

  • IGetCranked

Wow! Thanks Kirsten! I would never have believed that Jordin would have done this well after season 6. I’m blown away.

  • ianamy

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not going to try to claim that he didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t help to make that song popular (and perhaps was a major part), but it would appear that it was the biggest sales hit that heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s ever had so Jordin and the song must have played their part too.

I think Chris Brown helped Jordin to get airplay at urban and rhyme, not necessarily sales wise.

  • ggdoorsfan

WOW… David is roughly 5k units away from a Gold record…. gotta take a moment to absorb this – absorbed :clap_tb: And a 75% increase in sales from the previous week… another moment to absorb – absorbed :drunk_tb: Idol bubble shattered officially – David… you’ve gone mainstream, and we couldn’t be prouder of you! :wub_tb:

  • Anne67

My hat is off to Jordin. She came off winning AI with little fan support, hence her opening week sales of her album, and has managed to have three very strong singles…plus an album that will more than likely go platinum. And while I’m still not crazy about her songs, I can’t help but sing along to OSAT.
    So…way to go Jordin!

  • cruzceleste

    Go Archie… Go Crush!!!!

This is so cool, IÂ ´m feeling like a proud big sister right now… I hope he keep going up in the charts and sells…

Daughtry and Jordin are good too…

  • IGetCranked

Did we ever get a total on what Kristy’s cd sold?

  • clee1107

Wow…Crush is remarkable. 75% increase? New music video definitely helped the sales.

  • Kirsten

Did we ever get a total on what Kristyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s cd sold?

Ken should have those later today. If the BB200 leaks, we can get exact numbers.

According to the BB update, the No 200 album this week sold 3000 units (Julianne Hough). She didn’t get the number 1 debut on the Country chart becase that went to Hootie & the Blowfish former frontman Darius Rucker (No 5 on the BB200 with 60,000). So, that gives you a broad idea of where Kristy will appear. According to HDD, she sold 11,005 units (more than Carrie) for 41st on the chart.

They did have an update for Daughtry in the BB update:
à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¢ Daughtry is the first act to score five singles on the Adult Contemporary chart from a debut album in 17 years, as “What About Now” bows at No. 29. The ballad follows “It’s Not Over” (No. 18), “Home” (No. 1 for 11 weeks), “Over You” (No. 16) and “Feels Like Tonight” (No. 5). The last new act to arrive with a quintet of Adult Contemporary hits was Wilson Phillips in 1990-91. The trio topped the chart with “Hold On,” “Release Me” and “You’re in Love,” and added top five hits with “Impulsive” (No. 2) and “The Dream Is Still Alive” (No. 4).

  • IGetCranked

Thanks! For some reason, I thought the numbers were out last night and I couldn’t find them.

That Daughtry news is amazing! Even though the show is fun to snark on, AI has really done it’s job in finding artists.

  • soundscene

I think, technically, Crush is probably gold by now (since sales cut off on Sunday for this week), so if there was a way to track it daily, he probably scored Gold in 6 weeks of sale. Since there is no way to track daily, I can certainly live with 7 weeks. lol. Crush was helped by big ads for the video on iTunes, but it started moving up to #11 on iTunes before those went up. So while there will be a decrease in sales next week, I think it’ll stabilize to decent numbers over the next few weeks.

As for Jordin, I’m really proud of her. She broke all the expectations people had for her first album and first singles. She may not sell the most or get played the most, but I think she’ll be around for a long time.

  • idolfan86

wow @ crush! 75% increase? damnnn, you go boy!

  • elle

I thought at first the 75% was a typo! Love staring at that number. GOLD baby GOLD! :jittery_tb:

  • http://myspace.com/pm68 Pam

Here are the album numbers from Ken Barnes HERE and the digital download #’s HERE.

David C.’s The Time of My Life is up 73-68 on the chart, selling 19,000, about the same as the previous week (down by 76 copies), for a total of 900,000.

  • Kirsten

Just a couple of quick updates (I’ll update the post later) from Ken Barnes over at Idol Chatter:

    45 Carrie Underwood “Carnival Ride” 11,000 (1%) Total: 2.34M
49 Kristy Lee Cook “Why Wait” 9,500 Total: 9,500
    52 Daughtry “Daughtry” 9K (-27%) Total: 4.23M (36)
    71 Jordin Sparks “Jordin Sparks” 7K (19%) Total: 917K (101)

  • Tatiana

I’m so happy for David. Crush is doing amazing. The 75% sales increase after seven weeks says it all – people like David’s music, not just the hard-core Archies, not just tweens and grannies. Remember when many people were saying the only reason he sold so well in week one was because of mass fan buying, and all the warnings that it wouldn’t last? I think even those naysayers have to admit they were wrong. Oh no, sorry, they are too busy making fun of his album cover now :rolleyes_wp:

  • soundscene

Great jump for Archie on the Hot 100!!

    32 15 DAVID ARCHULETA CRUSH
17 19 JORDIN SPARKS ONE STEP AT A TIME – STILL BULLETED
    42 41 HUDSON*JENNIFER SPOTLIGHT-REMIXES
    47 43 CARRIE UNDERWOOD JUST A DREAM
46 48 DAVID COOK THE TIME OF MY LIFE

  • IGetCranked

Kristy’s numbers are worse than I thought they would be. My morbid curiosity is shocked!

Archie sure is on a roll! Oh and Cook is almost platinum!

  • jpfan

Jordin is the stealth AI winner. Her downloads are incredible. Very nice move for Archie. HDD overestimated Kristy’s numbers. Poor KLC, that’s got to be the worst opening week of any 19R signed artist.

  • ggdoorsfan

    I concur Tatiana! :thumbup_tb:

  • E

I thought KLC would sell a little more than that.

Jordin and DA are doing very well wtg Jive!

I wonder how much the Crush MV sold last week.

  • Tatiana

Do music video sales count towards the Hot 100? Do they count towards anything? Anybody know?

  • gabam

If sales for Bucky’s CD continue to hold steady in the 1,500 – 1,600 range for the next month, he will outsell Kat. Yikes for Kat but Yay for Bucky.

    From Idol Chatter:

Bucky held at 1,600 for a total of 367,000.

A sizable 100-sales club includes three who remained at the level: Katharine (total 373,000), Brooke (total 9,600) and Taylor (Early Works, total 3,400).

  • soundscene

Do music video sales count towards the Hot 100? Do they count towards anything? Anybody know?

Not that I’m aware of. There might be a lesser Billboard chart that includes it somehow… Kirsten may know. But I don’t think we ever get sales numbers for videos, especially since selling music videos is a fairly new practice.

  • Kirsten

Do music video sales count towards the Hot 100?

I’m pretty sure they don’t. BB only mentions the sales of singles, airplay and streams.

Do they count towards anything? Anybody know?

BB has a million charts. I would not be surprised to find that they have one for “Top Songs about Lawn Mowers”. They need one for YouTube videos. I know that’s where I go to check out new songs. Nevermind. You had a question.

I think the chart that tracks music videos is the Hot Videoclip Tracks, but that might be “airplay”.

Did you know they actually track “Video Sales – Recreational Sports” (top seller last week was “UFC 84: Ill Will”), “Top Kid Video” (yes, that’s the name of the chart…you go Ariel!) and “Top VHS Sales (who still sells those? “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” owns that category while “The Office” tops “Top DVD Sales” and “Top TV DVD Sales” ).

Anyway, the BB200 leaked, so I’ll be updating that.

  • tij

If TOML is at 900,000 sales, based on my estimation and the decreasing number of sales of TOML. TOML will go platinum in about 10 weeks or around December this year if Cook is lucky.

  • tij

Jordin became hip with the teens because of Chris Brown (No Air) and Jesse McCartney (Concerts). Her Tattoo wasn’t selling well, then when Chris Brown entered into her life, Tattoo skyrocketed into fame and people started liking it.

  • tij

Who’s buying Carrie’s music???? Are there that many country fans?? I think there are more Country fans than rock fans.

I never listened to any of Carrie’s songs because I do not like country music.

  • fofanau

By the time “No Air” was released, Tattoo was already popular, selling platinum and practically single-handly carrying Jordin’s album to gold. Of course, the success of No Air as well as the concert tours helped as well (as it should, it’s called “promotion”).
